Dubai's DET partners with Visa to boost international tourism

The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Visa, a global leader in digital payments, to facilitate further increases in international tourism inflows and elevate the visitor experience across the city.
The agreement, signed during the Arabian Travel Market (ATM), is for harnessing Visa's data-driven insights to optimise marketing campaigns, streamline tourism services, and deliver tailored promotions for visitors.
Boosting Dubai's tourism growth
Visa's insights will guide initiatives to simplify travel and tourism services, enhancing accessibility and convenience for visitors.
Additionally, Visa will support DET with marketing activities and exclusive promotions for cardholders across its network, spanning more than 200 markets worldwide and including major hotel chains, airlines, and retailers.
The efforts are expected to amplify the reach of Dubai's tourism operators, from malls and hotels to entertainment providers, generating opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses to engage with a global audience.
Issam Kazim, CEO of the Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM), part of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), the collaboration brings together DET's market insights and destination expertise and Visa's vast global network and data intelligence – creating new pathways to engage travellers, inspire visitation, and deliver exceptional experiences across every touchpoint.
'It also underlines the strength of public-private partnerships, which remain a cornerstone of Dubai's economic success,' he said.
Dr. Saeeda Jaffar, Senior Vice President and Group Country Manager for GCC – Visa, said the company is thrilled to partner with the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) to provide its unique insights into global travel and tourism trends.
'These insights will enable DET to make informed decisions on campaigns and initiatives that will help drive more international tourist inflow to Dubai,' Jaffar said.
The collaboration aligns with the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, to further consolidate the city's position as a leading global destination for business and tourism.
It also highlights the robust public-private partnerships that continue to drive the tourism sector's exceptional growth, evidenced by a robust Q1 performance in 2025.

US could require up to $15,000 bonds for some tourist visas under new pilot programme

The US could require up to $15,000 bonds for some tourist and business visas under a new pilot programme launching in two weeks, a US government notice said on Monday, an effort that aims to crack down on visitors who overstay their visas. The program gives US consular officers the discretion to impose bonds on visitors from countries with high rates of visa overstays, according to a Federal Register notice. The bonds also could be applied to people coming from countries where screening and vetting information is deemed insufficient, the notice said. US President Donald Trump has made cracking down on illegal immigration a central focus of his presidency, surging resources to secure the border and arresting people in the US. The Republican president issued a travel ban in June that blocks citizens of 12 nations from entering the US on national security grounds. The new visa programme, effective August 20, will last for approximately a year, the government notice said. The US government launched a similar pilot program in November 2020 during the last months of Trump's first term in office, but it was not fully implemented due to the drop in global travel associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, the notice said.

Dubai Welcomes 9.88 Million Visitors in H1 2025, Recording 6% Year-on-Year Growth

Dubai received 9.88 million international visitors in the first half of 2025, marking a 6% year-on-year increase, according to the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET). The growth highlights the emirate's strong global appeal and the success of public-private partnerships and targeted marketing campaigns. H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum praised the achievement as a reflection of Dubai's strategic vision to become a world-leading destination for tourism, trade, and innovation. Western Europe remained the top source market, accounting for 22% of visitors, followed by South Asia, the CIS and Eastern Europe, and the GCC. The hotel sector also posted strong results, with an 80.6% average occupancy rate and over 22 million occupied room nights. Culinary tourism played a key role, bolstered by Dubai's recognition in the MICHELIN Guide and The World's 50 Best Restaurants, with Trèsind Studio ranked No.27 globally and FZN earning three MICHELIN stars. Dubai was also named the world's best city for solo female travellers and the first Certified Autism Destination™ in the Eastern Hemisphere, affirming its commitment to inclusive and accessible tourism. As DET continues to drive the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, the city's evolving infrastructure, new hotel openings, global campaigns, and business events position it as a global benchmark for travel, hospitality, and urban excellence. ADIB Partners with Visa to Introduce Real-Time Cross-Border Transfer Service

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) has launched a new real-time cross-border money transfer service called Remit! in partnership with Visa. The service, powered by Visa Direct, enables ADIB customers to send funds to over 11 billion cards, digital wallets, and bank accounts globally. According to both firms, ADIB is the first bank worldwide to offer such broad reach through a single platform. Remit! aims to provide individuals with a secure and efficient way to transfer money internationally in real time, supporting a range of purposes such as family assistance and personal needs. The partnership is part of Visa's broader strategy to expand real-time money movement across the Middle East, where demand for digital remittance solutions continues to grow. As the region modernises its payment infrastructure, such collaborations are seen as steps towards greater financial inclusion. 'This partnership marks a major milestone for our customers and reaffirms our commitment to digital innovation and customer-centric financial services. We are excited to be the first bank globally to launch such a service, offering our customers a seamless and secure way to send money across the globe,' said Amit Malhotra, Global Head of Consumer Banking at ADIB. Salima Gutieva, Visa's Vice President and Country Manager for the UAE, noted: 'The Middle East is home to one of the world's most active remittance corridors. In the UAE alone, consumers send money abroad an average of 1.4 times per month. This is a clear sign of the demand for fast, secure and reliable transfers.' The launch comes at a time of rising demand for faster and more transparent cross-border transfers across the Gulf region. Visa's 2025 remittance study found that 95% of surveyed consumers in the UAE send money abroad at least once a year, with 63% preferring digital channels accessed from physical locations. Safety, privacy, and speed were among the most commonly cited reasons for choosing digital options. However, challenges persist. Many consumers still report high transaction fees and the inconvenience of travelling to complete transfers. More than one-third of UAE respondents highlighted these issues in the study. Visa Direct is intended to address such concerns. The network enables real-time, secure money transfers to cards, wallets, and bank accounts. One of its features, Visa+, allows funds to be sent using only a recipient's mobile number or email address, avoiding the need for full banking details. Visa+ is already in use across key Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) markets, including the UAE, Qatar, and Bahrain, supporting various use cases such as peer-to-peer payments, business disbursements, and remittances.
