The funds were misappropriated through irregular procurement practices, inflated contracts, bypassing of tender procedures and alleged backdoor deals.
Among the financial irregularities under scrutiny is the alleged diversion of Rs 21.7 lakh under the guise of plumbing works at the RGI Stadium in Uppal during the IPL 2023–24 and 2024–25 seasons, even though Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had executed the work. An additional Rs 11.86 lakh was allegedly misused in the procurement of ACs for IPL 2024–25 without inviting competitive bids.
Investigators also found that Rs 1.04 crore was allegedly spent on the procurement of 1,340 cricket balls for the 2024–25 domestic season, but no tender process or stock records were maintained. 'Even cricket balls were procured but there is no record of it,' confirmed a CID official. Further, Rs 56.85 lakh was reportedly spent on team apparel for men's and women's domestic players, again without adhering to standard procurement procedures.
In another instance, the HCA reportedly incurred a Rs 31.08 lakh loss by awarding premium banquet catering for IPL 2025 to a higher bidder, Srinivas Resorts (ITC Kakatiya), bypassing the lowest bid from Guru's Caterers.
The complaint, filed by Gurava Reddy, also alleged that Jagan Mohan and other accused intimidated and blackmailed SRH officials, demanding complimentary passes and access to corporate boxes.
On Thursday evening, the CID produced the five accused—Jagan Mohan, HCA treasurer JS Srinivasa Rao, CEO Sunil Kante, and Sri Chakra Cricket Club (SCCC) office-bearers Rajender Yadav and his wife G Kavitha—before a local court.

All were remanded to judicial custody, with Kavitha sent to Chanchalguda women's jail and the rest to Cherlapally Central Prison.

The forged signature of the club's former president, C Krishna Yadav, was allegedly used to fabricate records just weeks before the HCA elections held on Oct 20, 2023. The documents were created in alleged collusion with Rajender Yadav and Kavitha, current club president.
'These forged documents were presented as genuine, enabling Jagan Mohan to dishonestly gain entry into the HCA as its president,' Charu Sinha said. The fraud, however, appears to have gone beyond election manipulation.

Mithi desilting scam probe to cover silt removal since 2006
Mumbai: The scope of the investigation into the Mithi river desilting scam will be expanded. While earlier the Special Investigation Team (SIT) was looking at irregularities for only three years, it will now examine the quantum of silt removed from 2006 onwards, said industries minister Uday Samant in the legislative council on Thursday. The issue was raised again through a calling attention motion by BJP MLC Prasad Lad, who first brought up the issue leading to the setting up of the SIT. He further said the norms for dumping silt were changed in 2012. "Till 2012, the silt would go to the Deonar dumping ground where even today it is possible to know how much has been dumped since 1930. In 2012, the norms allowed dumping on private sites. Since 2006, Rs 331.73 crore have been spent on the Mithi River desilting work. We have currently checked expenditure from the year 2019 to 2024. Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Wednesday, directed the inclusion of 14 disputed villages from Jiwati tehsil of Chandrapur district into the state, with a final decision expected soon. This move is likely to resolve the long-pending issue of these border villages. Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced key decisions, including conversion of Class 2 lands to Class 1 status and approval for the Sanjay Gandhi Yojana Recruitment. The Revenue Minister has ordered expedited processes to convert Class 2 lands under the District Collector's jurisdiction to Class 1 status. A significant decision was made to convert Class 2 lands in survey numbers 1 to 8 in Rajura city to Class 1 at no cost, providing substantial financial relief to land owners. A crucial decision was announced to grant 'pattas' (land titles) for forest lands, ensuring legal rights for families dependent on these lands for years, addressing a vital concern for local residents, the statement issued by the Revenue Minister's office said. The Revenue Minister issued immediate orders to approve the recruitment, which will accelerate the scheme's implementation. The issue regarding administrative challenges in Jiwati tehsil due to vacant Kotwal posts were raised, prompting the Revenue Minister to order the immediate approval of a proposal for their appointment. This will streamline administrative operations in the region. Meanwhile, Minister Bawankule said that the state government has imposed a staggering fine of Rs 28,49,71,714 following the unauthorised excavation of 49,994 brass of minor minerals, specifically sand, in Gaur of Parbhani district, as part of a crackdown on illegal mining activities in the region. The Minister added, "Following the question raised by the Leader of the Opposition, an inquiry was conducted. We visited the site, and it was found that excavation was carried out without permission. A fine has been imposed, and a one-month deadline until July 17 has been given to pay the amount. Failure to comply will result in seizure action." He also elaborated that strict directives have been issued to curb illegal mining, with measures such as drone surveillance and electronic transport permits already in place. Evidence of illegal mining uncovered during the investigation in Gaur accelerated the enforcement action. The state government is also intensifying efforts to prevent such incidents in the future through stringent policies and increased use of technology. Minister Bawankule emphasised that this action would serve as a strong deterrent to those involved in illegal mining activities.

Chandigarh pilgrim dies on 5,200m-high Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra
Kullu: A 33-year-old Chandigarh resident died due to high altitude sickness on the Shrikhand Mahadev pilgrimage in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district. His family alleged porters extorted Rs 40,000 from them and delayed carrying him to a lower altitude until they were paid. The administration Thursday began a probe and promised action if the allegation was proven. Among the most challenging pilgrimages, Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra is conducted during Shravan (monsoon). Thousands of pilgrims climb to the 5,200-metre mountaintop to pay obeisance to a 75-feet-tall rock that devotees believe to be a natural Shiva lingam. Many pilgrims have died on the trek, which is around 32km one way and can take up to a week to complete. Abhay had gone on the pilgrimage with his cousin Vishal. After darshan on July 12, they were on the way down when Abhay's health started deteriorating. He was taken to a doctor at Parvatibagh camp (the highest), who advised Abhay be immediately taken to a lower altitude. SDRF personnel helped Abhay reach Bhimdwar, where a doctor administered oxygen and referred him to the govt hospital in Nirmand. On the way, Abhay's condition worsened but the two porters arranged by the administration allegedly refused to carry him. "They demanded Rs 60,000. I agreed to pay Rs 40,000. My phone was low on battery and there was no signal either, yet I managed to pay them Rs 40,000 through UPI," said Vishal. "But until I could pay them, the porters did not take Abhay down. They snatched our phones and bags and threatened we would not be able to go anywhere until we paid. Then, they took five hours to cover the short distance from Singhgad to Jaon (base of trek at 1,950m). There was no one to help us, no police, no SDRF," he added. "When we finally reached Jaon village and I put Abhay in the back of my car, he died." Vishal's brother Vinay, who reached Nirmand (23km from Jaon) Wednesday evening, said the Kullu administration must also take responsibility. Nirmand SDM Manmohan Singh said an inquiry was initiated. "Porters are deployed through a contractor hired by the administration. Action will be taken against the porters if the allegations are found to be true. I have also moved a complaint from the relatives of the deceased to Nirmand police for action." Abhay's postmortem was conducted Thursday. Local SHO Gopal Singh said no case had been registered yet. Pilgrims need to submit a medical certificate at the time of registration but the trek itself is demanding. In 2023, the yatra was called off after six pilgrims died over a month, and in 2018, three devotees died on the trek due to lack of oxygen.
