HCA secretary named in forgery and fund misuse case; Telangana CID launches manhunt as Devraj Ramchander goes missing
HYDERABAD: The Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) has named Devraj Ramchander, secretary of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), as accused No. 2 in a case involving forgery and misappropriation of funds. Ramchander is currently absconding, and a search is underway to trace his whereabouts. As part of its preliminary probe, the CID has recorded the statements of 15 witnesses, including D Gurava Reddy, general secretary of the Telangana Cricket Association and complainant in the case, former Andhra Pradesh cabinet minister C Krishna Yadav, two district registrars, two HCA staffers, general secretary of the Telangana Handball Association (THA), a vigilance and enforcement (V&E) official and Justice L Narasimha Reddy, former chief justice of Patna high court and ex-ombudsman and ethics officer of HCA. A breakthrough came on July 2, when the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) confirmed that the signatures on documents related to Sri Chakra Cricket Club (SCCC) were forged. The signatures did not match those of Krishna Yadav, confirming that his signature had been falsified, allegedly by HCA president A Jagan Mohan Rao to gain fraudulent membership in the club and contest HCA elections. Jagan Mohan has since been arrested and sent to judicial remand. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Descoperă BMW X5 Legacy Limited Edition. In his response (dated July 7, 2025), Justice Narasimha Reddy stated unequivocally that the name change was illegal. He emphasised that the club would continue to be known as GCC unless his 2018 order was set aside by a competent court, or a valid resolution was passed by the club's management as per prescribed procedures. The investigation also uncovered serious procedural violations. On June 13, R Tulasi, district registrar of Hyderabad South, admitted to the CID that the registration process for SCCC had procedural lapses. On June 19, Shyamala Pawan Kumar, general secretary of the THA, testified that Jagan Mohan issued forms to handball players on March 4, 2024, in his capacity as THA president, even though he was already serving as HCA president. "By concealing the fact that he was serving as president of the THA, he contested and got elected as HCA president, which is legally untenable," Shyamala said. The CID is now preparing to file a petition before a local court, seeking custody of the five arrested accused, including Jagan Mohan, who are currently in judicial remand.

Hyderabad Cricket Association president Jagan Mohan Rao misused Rs 2.3 crore through inflated contracts, reveals inquiry
Hyderabad: After the arrest and judicial remand of HCA president A Jagan Mohan Rao and senior office-bearers, the CID probe has revealed misappropriation of public funds to the tune of over Rs 2.3 crore. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The funds were misappropriated through irregular procurement practices, inflated contracts, bypassing of tender procedures and alleged backdoor deals. Among the financial irregularities under scrutiny is the alleged diversion of Rs 21.7 lakh under the guise of plumbing works at the RGI Stadium in Uppal during the IPL 2023–24 and 2024–25 seasons, even though Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had executed the work. An additional Rs 11.86 lakh was allegedly misused in the procurement of ACs for IPL 2024–25 without inviting competitive bids. Investigators also found that Rs 1.04 crore was allegedly spent on the procurement of 1,340 cricket balls for the 2024–25 domestic season, but no tender process or stock records were maintained. 'Even cricket balls were procured but there is no record of it,' confirmed a CID official. Further, Rs 56.85 lakh was reportedly spent on team apparel for men's and women's domestic players, again without adhering to standard procurement procedures. In another instance, the HCA reportedly incurred a Rs 31.08 lakh loss by awarding premium banquet catering for IPL 2025 to a higher bidder, Srinivas Resorts (ITC Kakatiya), bypassing the lowest bid from Guru's Caterers. The complaint, filed by Gurava Reddy, also alleged that Jagan Mohan and other accused intimidated and blackmailed SRH officials, demanding complimentary passes and access to corporate boxes. On Thursday evening, the CID produced the five accused—Jagan Mohan, HCA treasurer JS Srinivasa Rao, CEO Sunil Kante, and Sri Chakra Cricket Club (SCCC) office-bearers Rajender Yadav and his wife G Kavitha—before a local court. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now All were remanded to judicial custody, with Kavitha sent to Chanchalguda women's jail and the rest to Cherlapally Central Prison. Investigators said BCCI) has allocated nearly Rs 200 crore to HCA. 'Based on preliminary findings, we have gathered sufficient evidence to support the complainant's allegations and have proceeded with the arrests. The BCCI has allocated Rs 200 crore to the HCA over the past two years. A thorough investigation is now underway into the suspected misappropriation of these funds,' an investigator said. According to CID additional director general Charu Sinha, Jagan Mohan illegally secured his HCA presidency by forging documents to claim membership in Sri Chakra Cricket Club (formerly Gowlipura Cricket Club). The forged signature of the club's former president, C Krishna Yadav, was allegedly used to fabricate records just weeks before the HCA elections held on Oct 20, 2023. The documents were created in alleged collusion with Rajender Yadav and Kavitha, current club president. 'These forged documents were presented as genuine, enabling Jagan Mohan to dishonestly gain entry into the HCA as its president,' Charu Sinha said. The fraud, however, appears to have gone beyond election manipulation.

Hyderabad Cricket Association president Jagan Mohan Rao forged former minister Krishna Yadav's signature to gain eligibility for board election: CID
Hyderabad: In a fresh twist, the man whose signature was allegedly forged by Jagan Mohan Rao to gain eligibility for the HCA elections is C Krishna Yadav, an ex-cabinet minister in the former TDP govt. Krishna Yadav, who had served as a labour minister in 1994, was an accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam. He was arrested in 2003 for allegedly demanding Rs 2 crore from prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi and was later acquitted. The CID on June 11 recorded the statement of Krishna Yadav, president of Gowlipura Cricket Club, in connection with the forgery case involving the HCA. Krishna Yadav is believed to have said that he had no knowledge of the documents submitted to the Hyderabad south district registrar by the accused, seeking to change the club's name from Gowlipura Cricket Club to Sri Chakra Cricket Club (SCCC), the CID remand report said. CID officials further said that C Rajender Yadav, general secretary of SCCC and one of the accused in the case, is Krishna Yadav's brother. 'Krishna Yadav is neither aware of the forgery nor the renaming of the club,' a senior CID official said. He further alleged that the illegal name change and forged documentation were orchestrated by Rajender Yadav and G Kavitha, Rajender's wife, in collusion with Jagan Mohan, to fraudulently facilitate Jagan Mohan's entry into the HCA and contest the elections for the post of president. Meanwhile, the Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory analysis confirmed the forgery. The signature attributed to Krishna Yadav on the documents submitted to the registrar did not match his verified signature samples, affirming that the signature was indeed forged. In a related development, HCA store in-charge K Jayaraj stated that no official purchases were made or materials issued during the tenure of the accused as members of the HCA Apex Council, indicating further irregularities in procurement practices under their leadership.

HCA chief arrested over IPL ticket irregularities
Hyderabad: The Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) has arrested A Jagan Mohan Rao, the President of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). The arrest follows a vigilance report that highlighted serious irregularities within the HCA, specifically concerning ticket allocation during the IPL 2025 season and internal governance issues. The inquiry was initiated on the orders of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. The investigation, led by Director General KothakotaSreenivasa Reddy, looked into allegations of intimidation and blackmail related to complimentary tickets and corporate boxes. The IPL team SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) had formally complained to Revanth Reddy about alleged intimidation by Jagan Mohan Rao concerning complimentary tickets and corporate boxes. According to the Telangana Vigilance Commission, Jagan Mohan and other HCA office-bearers allegedly pressured the IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad to provide additional complimentary tickets beyond the agreed limit of 10 per cent. The report also found that some of these tickets were sought for personal sale and unauthorised distribution. During an IPL match, HCA officials allegedly locked a corporate box to coerce SRH into handing over more tickets. Based on these findings, the CID registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Jagan Mohan and several others for alleged misuse of authority, black-marketing of tickets, and governance failures. Jagan Mohan Rao was subsequently taken into custody as part of the ongoing inquiry. The arrest follows a series of disputes between the HCA and SRH that have unfolded over the past year. In the previous IPL season, SRH formally accused the HCA leadership of coercive and unprofessional conduct, specifically regarding repeated demands for free tickets. The franchise had even warned that it might consider relocating home matches out of Hyderabad if such pressure continued. In response to these concerns, the Chief Minister ordered a vigilance inquiry in April. The investigation confirmed that pressure tactics were indeed employed by the HCA President. Following the submission of the inquiry report, the CID proceeded with Jagan Mohan Rao's arrest.

Jagan Mohan Named As Accused After Vehicle In His Convoy Runs Over YSRCP Supporter
Last Updated: A case had been registered against Jagan Mohan for the death of Cheeli Singayya, who was reportedly run over by the ex-Andhra CM's convoy in Guntur district. A case has been registered against YSRCP chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, after a party supporter lost his life after being run over by a vehicle that was part of Reddy's convoy in Guntur district. Guntur SP Satish Kumar said a case had been registered against Jagan Mohan for the death of Cheeli Singayya. On June 18, Jagan Mohan Reddy visited Rentapalla with a convoy of three vehicles to call on a family member of a YSRCP leader who had died by suicide a year ago. The event turned tragic as Singayya, who had gathered along the roadside with other YSRCP supporters, was knocked down by a vehicle in the convoy and sustained serious bleeding injuries. As the tragedy unfolded, eyewitnesses rushed to his rescue and alerted the law enforcement. Soon after, the man was taken to Guntur Government Hospital for treatment but he succumbed to his injuries. The tragedy raised concerns over crowd management and sparked widespread criticism regarding the lack of security oversight. 'After analysing various evidence, it was found that the deceased was seen under the wheels of Jagan Mohan Reddy's vehicle," said Guntur district Superintendent of Police (SP) S Satish Kumar, addressing a press conference late on Sunday. A case was initially registered under Section 106(1) of BNS (causing death by negligence) based on a complaint by his wife, Cheeli Lurdhu Mary, at the local police station. However, the SP said that after examining CCTV footage, drone videos, eyewitnesses, and other technical evidence, the case has been updated to include Sections 105 and 49 of the BNS, and legal action will be taken against all those present in the vehicle, including Jagan Mohan. Other accused include Jagan Mohan Reddy's driver Ramana Reddy, Personal Assistant K Nageshwar Reddy, senior YSRCP leader YV Subbareddy, former MLA Perni Venkataramaiah, and former Minister Vidadala Rajini, Kumar told reporters.
