The cockpit crew stopped the aircraft as per standard operating procedures, and all 160 passengers were safely disembarked. The flight later departed for Kolkata in the evening.Earlier that day, flight AI 2744 from Kochi to Mumbai veered off the runway while landing at Mumbai airport amid heavy rain. New Delhi: Air India has asked its pilots to ensure rules are followed during their mandatory annual test, officials told HT on Sunday. Air India tells pilots to ensure adherence to rules in annual test In an internal email to the pilots, seen by HT, the airline also informed them that it is upgrading its training and rostering software. The internal email, sent by the director training late night on Saturday, is a notice to all pilots stating that the airline is upgrading the CAE system. CAE, a Canadian simulator company, is a pilot training management platform used by airlines. The notice read, '..This step is being introduced as an additional mitigation measure, while our planning teams continue to monitor the process closely as well…' 'Pilots have been asked to double-check their assigned trainer for Annual Line Route check (ALC) against their previous ALC record,' one of the officials aware of the development said. ALC is a yearly flying test for pilots where a senior trainer flies with them during a regular flight to see how they perform. The test is done on an actual flight. A comment from Air India was awaited till the time of going to press. A second official aware of the matter however, said that the software upgrade triggered the email to the pilots. 'Civil Aviation Rules (CAR) mandate the pilots to perform these annual tests with different trainers every year. Since the software is being upgraded, automated safeguards may not be fully functional and so manual verification has been requested from the pilots.' 'This is not related to the recent notices,' he insisted. This is part of its strategy to ensure norms are followed during such planned training - non compliance have triggered slew of notices from the aviation safety regulator, another official said. To be sure, India's aviation regulator on Wednesday issued four show cause notices to Air India for multiple violations of operational procedures and regulations on training cabin crew and managing their duty hours. The government, in its first meeting with the senior management of Air India including the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Campbell Wilson received a detailed explanation of the airline's efforts towards maintaining safety, reviewed recent incidents, discussed fleet maintenance, and asked the airline to reassess its operations within a month. The move came amid heightened concerns over passenger safety and the operational standards being followed by both Air India and its low-cost subsidiary. 'The government, last week, ordered Air India to maintain the highest level of safety standards, after which it will review the airline's operations after a month,' another official said. These efforts are being made to ensure compliance and many more will follow. 'The airline is now taking more efforts,' he added.

Nashik airport records 56% rise in passenger traffic in April-June period in 2025-26 financial year
Nashik: The Nashik airport, managed by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), recorded a 56% rise in air passenger traffic in the April-June period of the 2025-26 financial year. The airport saw 1.06 lakh flyers in this period, compared to 67,694 passengers during the same period of 2024-25 financial year, revealeds the data provided by the airport authority. This is the first time that passenger traffic at the Nashik airport crossed the 1lakh mark in the first quarter of any financial year. The rise in passenger traffic is due to improved air connectivity with more cities. Passenger footfall at the airport has increased steadily over the past year due to positive responses from air passengers. At present, a private airline operates flights from the Nashik airport to six destinations: Delhi, Goa, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Indore. The airline is also planning to start flights from Nashik to Kolkata in the coming months. Due to higher occupancy, the airline started 232-seater Airbus A321 flights on the Nashik-Delhi and Nashik-Bengaluru routes from March 30. Previously, the airline operated 180-seater Airbus A320 flights on these routes. Deploying larger Airbus aircraft on the Nashik to Delhi and Bengaluru routes also led to a rise in passenger traffic in the April-June period of the current financial year, said sources. In the 2024-25 financial year, the Nashik airport recorded a footfall of 3.4 lakh passengers, compared to 2.4 lakh passengers during the previous financial year (2023-24). Total passenger footfall at the airport in 2022-23 was recorded at 1.07 lakh passengers. Ashish Nahar, the president of the Nashik Industries and Manufacturers' Association (Nima), said the airport has huge potential for air service because of the various industrial, business, and tourism potentials of Nashik. The defence PSU HAL, various central govt projects, and major multinational companies have their bases in Nashik. Apart from the major religious places, Nashik is also known as the wine capital of the country as it houses the maximum number of wineries. Moreover, Nashik is one of the four places in the country where the Kumbh Mela is held every 12 years. Hence, the airport has huge potential, said Ashish Nahar. "Moreover, the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela is also being held between 2026 and 2028 in Nashik, and passenger traffic will increase significantly at the Nashik airport during the mega religious event. We are also pursuing the state govt for the expansion of the Nashik airport," added Nahar. Manish Rawal, the chairman of Nima's aviation committee, said the occupancy in all the flights from Nashik is around 90% on average. Most of the time, the occupancy in 232-seater Airbus A321 flights on the Nashik-Delhi and Nashik-Bengaluru routes is 100%. "There is a need for a second daily Nashik-Delhi flight considering the footfall of passengers," added Rawal, who is also a vice-president of Nima.

Mumbai: IndiGo Airlines , country's largest carrier by fleet size and market share , is likely to face a single-digit percentage increase in aviation insurance premiums when its annual cover comes up for renewal this week, people familiar with the matter said. The hike comes amid a hardening global reinsurance market following the recent fatal Air India crash in Ahmedabad, which could result in hull and liability claims exceeding $200 million. Reinsurers in the London market, which underwrite a large portion of Indian aviation risk, are tightening capacity and pushing up rates for both hull and liability covers. IndiGo's policy last year was led by New India Assurance , with co-insurers such as ICICI Lombard participating domestically. A large portion of the risk was ceded to overseas reinsurers, particularly in London, which continue to dominate aviation hull and liability insurance . Live Events The carrier's combined hull, spares, and liability cover carries a premium of approximately $13 -15 million, industry sources said. The total insurance value for its 437 aircraft fleet stands at around $20 billion. Each aircraft-primarily Airbus A320 and A321 models-is insured for a hull value between $30 million and $45 million. The fleet includes a few wide-body aircraft recently inducted for international operations. On the liability front, narrow-body aircraft typically carry coverage up to $750 million, while wide-body aircraft are covered for up to $1 billion. The current combined single limit (CSL) for liability stands at $1 billion, with maximum hull agreed value (MAV) at $150 million and spares at $300 million. Reinsurance costs have been rising since late 2023, but the recent Air India crash has led to further tightening, with international reinsurers becoming more cautious on risk appetite.
