Every house in Indore to have digital address; pilot project launched

The Print30-06-2025
It was launched on Sunday on a pilot basis from ward number 82 in Sudama Nagar area.
The project involves the installation of special digital plates with unique QR codes outside every house in the city, the officials said on Sunday.
Indore, Jun 30 (PTI) The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) in Madhya Pradesh has launched a digital house address project, with officials claiming it to be the first such initiative in the country.
The project aims to empower 'smart' administration by connecting citizen services with digital technology, an official said.
'We have linked our digital address project with the Digipin (Digital Postal Index Number) system of the central government. Indore is the first city in the country to do so,' Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava said.
He said special digital plates with a unique QR code will be installed outside every house in the city.
'By scanning this QR code with a mobile phone, the GPS-based digital address of the house can be known. Local taxes like property tax and water tax can be paid and complaints regarding civic amenities can also be lodged,' the mayor said.
Necessary changes will be made in the digital address project based on the people's suggestions, he added. PTI HWP MAS NSK GK

India developing three types of small modular reactors: Jitendra Singh

New Delhi, Jul 24 (PTI) India is developing three different types of small modular reactors (SMRs), including one dedicated to the production of hydrogen, mostly in the form of captive plants for energy-intensive industries, Union minister Jitendra Singh said on Thursday. In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Singh said the three types of SMRs — 200 MWe Bharat Small Modular Reactor (BSMR), 55 MWe SMR and 5 MWth High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactor — for the production of hydrogen are being designed and developed indigenously. 'In-principle approval has been obtained for the construction of these demonstration reactors. These demonstration reactors are likely to be constructed in 60 to 72 months after receipt of administrative sanction of projects," he said. The minister said the lead units of BSMR and SMR are planned to be installed at Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) sites in collaboration with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL). 'An estimate prepared based on the experience of setting up of 220 MWe plants indicates that the overall cost for the lead unit of 200 MWe Bharat Small Modular Reactor (BSMR-200) will be about Rs 5,750 crore," said Singh, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office that oversees the DAE. A 5 MWth high temperature Gas Cooled Reactor (GCR) is also planned to be used exclusively for hydrogen production by coupling with a suitable thermochemical hydrogen production process, he said. The potential thermo-chemical technologies for hydrogen production, such as Copper-Chloride (Cu-Cl) and Iodine-Sulphur (I-S) cycles, have already been developed and demonstrated by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Singh said. Necessary technology for the deployment of these reactors is available in the country and the majority of equipment is within the manufacturing capability of the Indian industry with technological handholding by the DAE, he said. 'These plants are designed & developed considering deployment as captive power plants, repurposing of retiring fossil fuel-based plants and hydrogen production to support the transport sector with the prime objective of decarbonisation," Singh said. Presently, the installed nuclear power capacity in the country comprises 25 reactors with a total capacity of 8,880 MW, including RAPS-1 (100 MW), which is under long-term shutdown. Two units of 700 MWe each – Kakrapar Atomic Power Station (KAPS) 3 and 4 and one 700 MWe unit at Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (RAPP-7) have already commenced commercial operation. At present, 18 reactors with a total capacity of 13,600 MW, including 500 MW Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor implemented by BHAVINI, are at various stages of implementation. On the progressive completion of these units, the installed nuclear power capacity will reach 22,480 MW, Singh said. Engineers are backbone of Arunachals progress: Guv

Agency: PTI Last Updated: Itanagar, Jul 24 (PTI) Calling engineers the backbone of Arunachal Pradesh's development, Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K T Parnaik on Thursday underscored the critical role they play in transforming government policy into tangible infrastructure. He urged them to embrace innovation, ethical conduct, and technological upgrades to build a future-ready and sustainable state. Inaugurating a two-day capacity-building training programme for engineers of the Public Works Department (PWD) here, the governor emphasised that engineers must uphold the highest standards of integrity, quality, and accountability in every project they undertake. 'An engineer's work must reflect trust, and the design, quality, cost, and impact must stand as a symbol of reliability," he said, warning against any compromise on quality. Parnaik stressed the need to integrate modern technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and GIS mapping and smart monitoring systems at every stage of project execution. With the infrastructure sector undergoing rapid digital transformation, he noted that such tools are now essential, not optional, for improving efficiency, transparency, and accountability. 'AI can help in better resource allocation and design optimisation. GIS mapping supports spatial planning and real-time tracking, while smart monitoring tools ensure timely delivery, quality control, and financial oversight," he said. Highlighting the state government's recent adoption of the 'zero tolerance for corruption' resolution in the assembly, Parnaik called upon engineers to exercise financial prudence and handle public funds with utmost care. He emphasised that transparency must be treated as a professional obligation, not just an administrative requirement. The governor also raised serious concern over the practice of sub-letting project works, stating that while it may offer economic gain to a few, it seriously compromises project quality and erodes public trust. He urged the engineering community to reconsider and reform this practice by ensuring that contracts are handled by capable, qualified individuals committed to excellence. Commending the PWD and the Indian Building Congress for organising the training, the governor described the programme as an investment in the state's future. 'This initiative will enhance the technical strength of our engineering workforce and prepare them to meet evolving infrastructure challenges with competence and character," he added. PWD Principal Secretary Kaling Tayeng, Chairman of Indian Building Congress (Arunachal Chapter) Dr Toli Basar and Chief Engineer (Vigilance & Training) Rimmar Taso, also shared their views during the inaugural session. The two-day training programme aims to update engineers on the latest knowledge and practices in engineering, planning, execution, and ethical governance.
