Paddleboarder dies while rescuing 12-year-old girl in Utah reservoir
Daniel Braga Figueiredo, 31, borrowed a paddleboard and entered Silver Lake Flat Reservoir around 7 p.m. local time, according to the Utah County Sheriff's Office. Figueiredo was related to the girl, a spokesperson for the office said in a news release.
When he reached her, people watched Figueiredo and the girl struggle to relocate her from the tube onto his paddleboard before the two fell into the reservoir. The sheriff's spokesperson said witnesses entered the water, too, at that point, in hopes of helping them.
Figueiredo was last seen lifting the girl out of the water and onto an inflatable device, the spokesperson said. He then disappeared beneath the surface.
Witnesses called 911 after the man vanished. Rescuers from several agencies subsequently responded to the scene and proceeded to search for Figueiredo, whose body was found and recovered from the reservoir at about 9:30 p.m., according to the sheriff's office.
"We would like to again offer our condolences to the family," the sheriff's spokesperson said in a statement.
Silver Lake Flat Reservoir is located in American Fork Canyon, inside the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest about 40 miles southeast of Salt Lake City. People who visit often participate in outdoor activities like kayaking, fishing, camping and hiking on surrounding trails, according to the U.S. Forest Service, which manages the reservoir.

The impact caused Hutchins and her ATV vehicle to fall off the road and down a 350-foot ravine, police sources told the outlet. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene. No one else was injured. Footage of the incident, which aired on Wednesday afternoon, showed the mangled blue ATV sitting atop an upside-down vehicle that had previously crashed in the same spot. Hutchins met the 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' alum, 75, through their mutual hairstylist in 2015. 'We met through our hairstylists. He was doing my hair one day and was like, 'I'm going to a photoshoot after this, something with Caitlyn and MAC. And Caitlyn would like to meet you,'' Hutchins, who previously referred to Jenner as her 'partner in life,' recalled to 'Juicy Scoop' podcast listeners in 2020. On Tuesday, July 15, the Chandler Police Department (CPD) shared an update to X, announcing that the investigation into Trigg's death on Sunday, May 18, was completed. The announcement also shared that the department's investigators recommended that Brady be tried for a Class 4 felony charge of child abuse. The CPD submitted the case to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office for review. After the prosecution reviews the police file, Brady could face the charges mentioned above, and the case will return to the CPD for further investigation. However, the case could also be dropped if the prosecution decides Brady will not face charges. The CPD's referral comes nearly two months after Trigg drowned in the family's backyard pool in Chandler, Ariz., on Monday, May 12. At the time of the drowning, Brady was at home with Trigg and their newborn son, Theodore, while Emilie was out with friends, Brady told Chandler police, per AZ Central. According to CPD search warrant applications, Brady told police he saw the toddler playing near the pool, noting that it was "not uncommon' for Trigg to do so. He also said that the pool usually had a protective cover on it. But as Brady was caring for Theodore, he lost sight of Trigg for three to five minutes. Upon returning to the backyard, that's when he discovered Trigg floating in their backyard pool. Police responded to the scene and performed CPR until firefighters arrived and then assumed control of his medical care. Trigg was taken to Chandler Regional Medical Center and then to Phoenix Children's Hospital in critical condition. The next day, the search warrant applications were created to obtain surveillance footage of the backyard cameras to corroborate Brady's statements to investigators. That same day, Brady was accused by CPD investigators of committing child abuse on the day of Trigg's drowning. Days after Trigg's death, his mother, TikTok influencer Emilie, announced the tragic news to her 4 million followers. Due to Emilie's media persona, she filed a lawsuit on Tuesday, May 27, in Arizona Superior Court for Maricopa County to keep records about Trigg's death out of public view, according to court documents. In the filing, Kiser's lawyer said that she and her family "desperately want to grieve in private, but sadly, the public will not let them," adding that Trigg's death "has become a media frenzy." On June 3, the Arizona Superior Court for Maricopa County ruled in the influencer's favor on a separate motion she filed to keep her personal declaration private. The court order will grant Kiser temporary confidentiality on both her declaration and her larger request for privacy while the court reviews evidence to make a final ruling. Delaware County mourns loss of volunteer firefighter who died in motorcycle crash in Chester, Pennsylvania
Black bunting now adorns Eddystone firetrucks and hangs above the locker where 24-year-old Jack Wilson's bunker gear remains, a somber tribute to the young volunteer firefighter who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident on Friday. Outside the firehouse, Wilson's name has been added to a memorial display honoring his service. Family members say firefighting was his lifelong dream. "He just wanted to be able to help and support his community," Matt Wilson Jr., Jack's brother, said. "He was so happy to get into his first firehouse. He ended up being at four different ones in five to six years." Wilson also shared a deep love of motorcycles, following in the footsteps of his dad, older brother and uncles. "We put him on his first bike at a year old. Gave him a taste of the Harley-Davidson life at a young age," Matt Wilson Sr., Jack's father, said. "His song was 'Born to Be Wild.' He had a little motorcycle that played it, and he'd play it over and over," Kayla Wilson, Jack's sister, said. Chester Police say Wilson died just four minutes from home after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle at the intersection of West 22nd and Wetherill streets in Chester. The driver involved is cooperating with the investigation, and chemical test results are pending. Within 24 hours of the crash, hundreds of motorcyclists and fellow firefighters from across Delaware County gathered for a candlelight vigil and procession in Wilson's honor. "It's overwhelming," Matt Wilson Sr. said. "I think my son is just this guy living his life ... then he dies and it's just love and compassion from everybody." "He was a fun spirit, and he wanted to help and be loved and love everyone else," Matt Wilson Jr. said. "He created a life that he loved, the people in it loved him, they were proud of him, he was proud of himself," Kayla Wilson said. In light of the outpouring of support, the Wilson family expects close to 1,000 people to attend Jack's funeral on Friday. A five-mile celebration of life ride is scheduled for Saturday.
