IPL valuation jumps nearly 13% to $18.5 billion on strong media deals, fan growth
Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their maiden IPL title when they beat Punjab Kings in the final.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen its business valuation surge to $18.5 billion (₹1.56 lakh crore), marking a 12.9% year-on-year increase, according to a new report from global investment bank Houlihan Lokey. The analysis hihglights IPL's growing dominance as one of the world's most valuable sporting properties. The league's brand value alone rose 13.8% in 2025 to $3.9 billion (₹32,721 crore), a 16.1% jump in Indian rupee terms, highlighting its increasing global pull, robust sponsorship ecosystem, and explosive digital engagement."For institutional investors, this makes the IPL not just a sports league but a high-growth compounder in the entertainment space, catering to a fast-growing fan base with rising disposable income and a strong appetite for premium digital experiences," the study stated.Houlihan Lokey noted that brand value, distinct from total business valuation, reflects the monetary worth of intangible assets like trademarks, trade names, and goodwill. It's only one part of a broader calculation that also includes tangible assets, revenues, and operational factors.Since its launch in 2008, the IPL has evolved into a multibillion-dollar platform that not only dominates Indian sports but also shapes global standards in broadcasting, sponsorship strategy, and franchise operations. The 2025 season, despite facing a temporary pause due to geopolitical tensions in early May, bounced back swiftly with strong contingency planning and coordination among stakeholders.
The report called this year's IPL a textbook example of 'resilience and operational agility.'Franchise performance remains central to the league's commercial success. Top teams reported annual revenues ranging from ₹650 crore to ₹700 crore, with as much as 80% of revenue visibility secured before the tournament even began. A league-wide salary cap of ₹120 crore per team acts as a built-in safeguard, limiting wage inflation and preserving competitive balance.IPL franchises also benefit from a capital-light model, thanks to existing BCCI-created stadium infrastructure and minimal fixed asset exposure. Compared to global peers like English Premier League or NBA teams—which face large transfer fees, variable wages, and stadium debt—IPL teams enjoy a revenue-guaranteed, asset-light structure that enhances upside and protects against risk.
The valuation report also pointed to the IPL's growing global audience, noting that the 2025 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings smashed viewership records. The title clash drew more than 600 million views on JioCinema, cementing the IPL's status as one of the most-watched sporting events worldwide.
The report concluded that with a potent mix of fan loyalty, commercial scalability, and digital reach, the IPL is continuing to redefine what's possible in sports business.

Watch: Ben Stokes Down In Pain, Falls Flat On Ground After Siraj Hits Him
Ben Stokes copped a painful blow on his box from a low-bouncing Siraj delivery on Day 4 at Lord's, briefly halting play as the England skipper lay in discomfort. Ben Stokes had an awkward-yet-painful moment while batting against India in the second innings of the ongoing Lord's Test on Sunday. The England captain was dealing with India's aggression with the ball on day four when Siraj's length ball hit him straight on the box. It was the final delivery of the 29 th over of England's second innings that gave a little jolt to Stokes. The ball didn't bounce as much as Stokes anticipated. Instead, it kept low and thudded into him. The England skipper soon lay flat on the ground in pain, taking a couple of minutes to compose himself. Earlier, Siraj led a strong Indian pace attack on a challenging Lord's pitch, reducing England to 98 for four by lunch on day four of the third Test on Sunday. With the match evenly balanced, the intensity was evident from the first ball of the day. Siraj, who excels under pressure, struck early from the Pavilion End, dismissing Ben Duckett with a sharp delivery. He then adjusted his line slightly to trap Ollie Pope, ending a seven-over spell with impressive figures of 2 for 11. The surface offered unpredictable bounce, especially from the Nursery End, where the ball sometimes kicked off a length, keeping the batters uneasy. Jasprit Bumrah partnered with Siraj in another challenging spell, targeting Zak Crawley, who had narrowly survived a tough over on Saturday. Bumrah beat him with pace and bounce, with one ball hitting the bat handle, before Shubman Gill introduced Nitish Reddy into the attack. Reddy, continuing his dream debut, dismissed Crawley for the second time in the match. The England opener drove at a fuller ball but was brilliantly caught at gully by Yashasvi Jaiswal, who made up for his earlier fielding errors. Harry Brook fought back with aggressive strokes, including two ramps and a six off Akash Deep. However, the Indian pacer maintained his focus, consistently targeting the stumps. His persistence paid off when Brook misjudged a sweep and was bowled, leaving England at 87 for four. At the break, Ben Stokes and Joe Root were working to steady the innings. Mohammed Siraj Roars In Ben Duckett's Face After Dimissing Him At Lords: WATCH
It's not often you see raw emotion take over in a Test match, but that's exactly what happened at Lord's on Day 4 when Mohammed Siraj sent Ben Duckett packing and made sure the England opener knew about it. The moment came in the sixth over of the day. Siraj, steaming in with pace and purpose, got one to nip away just enough to catch Duckett's edge. The ball flew to the slips, and Duckett was gone for just 12. But instead of turning away in quiet triumph, Siraj turned up the heat. The Indian pacer let out a roar and stormed straight up to Duckett, shouting right in his face in a high-voltage send-off. Cameras caught the intensity of the moment, the glare, the words, and even a slight shoulder bump as Duckett walked past. It wasn't just a celebration, it was a statement.
