'Save me': Man recounts harrowing 90 minutes as girl, set ablaze, knocked on his door; calls for justice
"
A 15-year-old girl, allegedly set on fire by three masked men in Odisha's Puri district, was transferred to AIIMS New Delhi, where she remains in stable condition with 70-75%burn injuries.
The class 9 dropout was walking to a relative's home around 8.30am Saturday when she was reportedly intercepted near a river embankment, rendered unconscious by a chemical-lacedcloth, and doused with kerosene before being set ablaze.
Screaming for help, she fled to a nearby house, where Dukshishyam Senapati extinguished the flames and gave her fresh clothes.
'Girl was on fire and screaming in pain'
Recalling the harrowing moment, Senapati said that when he answered his door, he was stunned to find the girl engulfed in flames and crying in agony, as he later explained to DGP YB Khurania during the official's site visit.
"It was around 8.30 am when the girl came to my house, screaming. With the help of my wife, I doused the fire and gave her water as she was very thirsty.

Later, the women of my family changed her clothes," he said.
Upon questioning, the girl informed Senapati that three unidentified men had set her ablaze. She explained being abducted by motorcycle-riding assailants whilst returning from meeting a friend.
"She said she was walking back home after meeting a friend when she was picked up by three men who arrived on motorcycles. The faces of these men were half-covered, and they took her to a place near the Bhargavi riverbank.
She could not tell their names. She could only say that they covered her face with a handkerchief and poured some substance before setting her on fire," he said.
Senapati noticed that although the girl mentioned being bound during the abduction, her hands were free when she arrived. After learning her father's details, he contacted her family. The large crowd that gathered prevented further conversation with the victim.
Despite searching the area, Senapati couldn't locate the perpetrators. He explained that the attackers fled after setting her alight, presumably expecting her to perish. However, the girl managed to escape and reach his house.
Due to delayed ambulance response, they resorted to an auto rickshaw for hospital transport. The girl remained at his residence for approximately 90 minutes.
The incident has created fear in the village, particularly among children who are now afraid to venture out alone. Senapati urged swift arrest of the culprits.

JD Vance slams WSJ ‘hit piece': US VP demands proof behind Trump-Epstein birthday book claim; defends President's lawsuit
JD Vance (File photo) US Vice President JD Vance has come out swinging against The Wall Street Journal over its recent report linking President Donald Trump to a sexually suggestive message allegedly written for Jeffrey Epstein 's 50th birthday tribute book. In a fiery post on X, Vance accused the WSJ of publishing what he called a 'hit piece' against Trump without providing credible proof. 'I have no idea if the book exists—WSJ won't show it to us. I have no idea if the letter exists—WSJ won't show it to us,' he wrote. 'It's disgraceful, and it's why the president sued," he added. Vance also pushed back on the broader narrative, calling it 'absurd that a major American paper would attack the President of the United States without revealing the basis", referring to allegations that Trump write poems to Epstein, and warning that the media will 'dribble little details out for days or weeks in an effort to assassinate the president's character.' Further, accusing them of pushing Democrats' narrative he further said, "Everyone will just move on from the fact that the WSJ is acting like a Democrat SuperPAC." His remarks follow a Wall Street Journal report published last week claiming that Trump signed a crude drawing in a birthday book compiled by Ghislaine Maxwell , Epstein's longtime associate who is currently serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking minors. The Journal alleged that Trump's contribution included the outline of a naked woman with his signature below her waist, reportedly captioned with the phrase, 'May every day be another wonderful secret.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Up to 70% off | Shop Sale Libas Undo Trump swiftly denied the allegation, posting on Truth Social that the letter was a 'FAKE.' The White House also issued a statement dismissing the claims as politically motivated. 'This is nothing more than a continuation of the fake news stories concocted by the Democrats and the liberal media,' said spokesperson Steven Cheung. The report also resurfaced Trump's prior connections to Epstein, including a 1997 inscription in a copy of The Art of the Comeback that read, 'To Jeff- You are the greatest!' A previously unreleased photo of Trump, Epstein, and singer James Brown was also reviewed by The New York Times, further fueling scrutiny of their past ties. The controversy has intensified calls from lawmakers and the public to release sealed Epstein-related documents. A key House committee voted this week to subpoena files from the Justice Department, and Rep. Ro Khanna has indicated he plans to subpoena Epstein's estate for the original birthday book. Epstein's estate said Thursday it would comply with all lawful processes. Meanwhile, Maxwell's role remains central- she reportedly wrote the book's introductory letter and met with a Justice Department official this week. While the WSJ and NYT say they have reviewed parts of the book and Maxwell's letter, they have yet to publish full images of the materials in question, prompting continued criticism from Trump's allies. Trump's lawsuit Trump filed a libel and slander lawsuit against Dow Jones, News Corp along with two Wall Street Journal reporters, and the paper's owner Rupert Murdoch. In a post on Truth Social, Trump announced that he filed a 'powerhouse lawsuit.' "We have just filed a POWERHOUSE Lawsuit against everyone involved in publishing the false, malicious, defamatory, FAKE NEWS 'article' in the useless 'rag' that is, The Wall Street Journal," the MAGA supremo said. "This historic legal action is being brought against the so-called authors of this defamation, the now fully disgraced WSJ, as well as its corporate owners and affiliates, with Rupert Murdoch and Robert Thomson (whatever his role is!) at the top of the list," Trump added. The lawsuit was filed in the federal court for the Southern District of Florida, based in Miami. A full copy of the complaint had not yet been made public.

'Your System Is Infected': ED Busts Fake Call Centres In Chandigarh That Duped Foreign Nationals
Fake call centres and shell companies posed as global tech troubleshooters of companies like Microsoft, duping unsuspecting American and Canadian citizens with precision. Each time a foreign national dialed for tech assistance, the meter started ticking – 450 to 500 dollars siphoned off in the name of 'support." The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has unearthed a slick, sophisticated transnational scam that was running out of Chandigarh's Tricity, where a nexus of fake call centres and shell companies posed as global tech troubleshooters of companies like Microsoft and others, duping unsuspecting American and Canadian citizens with precision. Fronted by companies like FSAL Technologies Pvt Ltd, the syndicate baited victims through fake pop-up alerts like – 'Your system is infected," 'Call Microsoft Support Now". The pop-ups would only route them to Indian call centres posing as Microsoft, HP, or router support desks. Every call ended with a demand of 450 to 500 dollars for fixing a problem that did not exist. Victims paid, believing they were speaking to genuine tech agents. The money was routed via fake overseas firms like Bios Tech USA, controlled remotely by FSAL's director Faisal Rashid Peerzada, said a senior ED official Following raids across such illegal call centres, ED found no licenses, no agreements, and no real tech capacity. Just a set of trained fraudsters, and websites linked to spoofed domains like which is a knockoff of Geek Squad USA. The call centre staff, far from being software experts, lacked even basic BPO credentials, ED said in a statement. The operation was cloaked in layers. Locals like Faisal and others floated shell firms in the names of relatives and friends to obscure ownership. In one case, Bios Tech was run by a close associate Arshdeep, but all backend control, payment gateway access, and operations were handled directly from India. Another arm of the scam involved Sahu Jain, whose companies Terrasparq and Visionaire falsely claimed affiliation with CTS Mobility, a US-based firm supposedly owned by his sister Priya Jain. These entities also promised high-end services like device management and cybersecurity. In reality, they existed only to collect fraudulent payments, often recharging victims' cards repeatedly without consent, added the ED statement. Their websites projected glossy IT parks and professional setups. The ED found none of it existed as they used fake office photos, fake team bios, and fake promises of 24×7 support. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
