Strict monitoring of all routes of Muharram processions ordered
At the Deputy Commissioner's Office, DC Safiullah Gondal and DPO Abdullah Ahmad briefed the minister on the ongoing arrangements.
Addressing the officials, Azma Bokhari gave clear directives, stating that providing protection and essential facilities to mourners is the top priority of the Punjab Government. No negligence or loophole will be tolerated under any circumstances.'
Meeting with procession organizers and license holders, the minister emphasized that the Muharram teaches us patience, harmony, and unity. On the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, we are actively working across all districts to ensure peace and smooth arrangements at every level.'
She noted that strict monitoring of all routes of processions and religious gatherings is in progress. Flashpoints are on high alert, security agencies are in full coordination, and scholars from Peace Committees are in close contact. She said a zero-tolerance policy is in place for those spreading hate or incitement on social media. A dedicated team is monitoring online activity 24/7, and no miscreant will escape legal action.'
She also shared that CCTV surveillance is active along procession routes. Facilities such as mobile hospitals, clinics-on-wheels, and water sprinklers are available for the convenience of mourners. 'This is not just a religious responsibility; it is a national duty to maintain peace and order, and it requires joint efforts from all segments of society, she said.'
The minister added that she would remain present in the Faisalabad Division until the conclusion of Ashura processions and gatherings. She appreciated the performance of the Chiniot administration and expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made by local organizers.
Speaking to the media, Azma highlighted the progress under the Punjab Development Program, stating: 'Streets are being built across the province, villages are being turned into model villages, and sewerage systems are being upgraded.' She concluded by saying that with collective efforts, we will promote exemplary peace, tolerance, and unity during the sacred days of Muharram.'

President Trump must do the needful so as to become the fifth president of the US to have won the Nobel Peace Prize (after Barrack Obama, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson and Jimmy Carter, with Carter becoming the recipient of Nobel Peace Prize after leaving office). ‘Digital Nation Pakistan': AI curriculum across federal schools launched
ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan has launched an AI curriculum across federal schools, begun training 10,000 AI instructors, and initiated fibre optic internet connectivity for 532 schools in Islamabad — all as part of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's 'Digital Nation Pakistan' vision. Federal Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja announced that AI and emerging technology education will now be made accessible to every child, starting this academic year. Over 1,000 teachers have already been trained, with summer sessions planned to expand and deepen their capacity. 'From computer literacy to artificial intelligence, educating our youth in cutting-edge technologies is no longer optional — it's essential,' said the minister. 'Our focus has shifted from just training numbers to actual employability and impact.' She highlighted that a high-level committee, formed under the prime minister's directive, is reviewing national IT curricula with an emphasis on employability of school and college graduates. The revised curriculum, being jointly developed by the Ministry of Education, HEC, and National Curriculum Council, targets students from Grade 6 to 12. Further key developments include: Smart labs, classrooms, and digital screens have already been installed in over 100 federal schools and colleges. A hybrid/EdTech model is being rolled out to ensure modern education reaches remote areas. The National AI Policy is actively working to prepare 10,000 AI trainers for nationwide deployment. Google and Microsoft certifications will be offered to students to improve their international job prospects. In a major international collaboration, Pakistan signed a deal with Huawei during the PM's recent visit to China, aiming to train 300,000 students in AI and digital skills. Over 200 students have already completed their training under this agreement, with the rest expected by year-end. Minister Khawaja concluded that the real goal now is to create a digitally skilled, employable workforce, not just run training programmes. DC urges Muharram procession organisers to promote peace
LAHORE: Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza has appealed to the organisers and custodians of Muharram processions to act as 'ambassadors of peace' for the district administration, urging them to promote harmony, tolerance, and unity while upholding the sanctity of Muharram-ul-Haram. He expressed these views during his visits to various Ashura procession routes, said Deputy Commissioner spokesperson on Tuesday. The administration is finalising all arrangements for the upcoming Muharram and Ashura period, aiming to ensure peaceful observances and exemplary services for the citizens. The DC conducted detailed inspections of Ashura procession routes, including Syed Mehdi Hussain Imam Bargah and Gawal Mandi Railway Road, to personally oversee the preparations. He was accompanied by the Chief Officer Metropolitan Corporation Lahore, the Assistant Commissioner Shalimar, and other relevant officials. During the visit, Assistant Commissioner Shalimar Muhammad Saqib Trazi provided a comprehensive briefing on the arrangements, confirming that Rescue 1122 teams and Clinic on Wheels services will be deployed along all Muharram and Ashura procession routes. Furthermore, medical aid camps and water stalls will be set up to cater to the needs of the participants. The DC reiterated that the administration will maintain continuous monitoring of all religious gatherings and processions throughout Muharram-ul-Haram, stressing that no negligence in arrangements will be tolerated. 'Directives have been issued for the completion of all construction work along procession routes before the eve of Ashura. Additionally, WASA officials have been instructed to make special arrangements given the monsoon season, ensuring efficient drainage. Unnecessary obstructions and encroachments along routes are to be removed immediately,' he said, warning that strict action will be taken against violators of the Loudspeaker Act, and urged citizens to contact the District Administration Control Room at 03070002345 in case of any emergency.
