Jurassic World Rebirth Roars to Life with $312.5 Million Global Box Office Smash

Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment have scored a massive win at the box office with Jurassic World Rebirth, which posted a towering $312.5 million global debut in its opening weekend. Surpassing all projections, the film is now officially the second-highest worldwide opener of 2025, only trailing A Minecraft Movie. With Gareth Edwards at the helm and a star-studded cast including Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, Rebirth is breathing new life into the beloved dinosaur franchise.
Originally forecast to open around $260 million worldwide, Jurassic World Rebirth crushed those estimates with an explosive launch. The film earned approximately $141.2 million domestically and $171.3 million internationally, according to a Deadline report. These numbers place it ahead of major competitors and mark one of the strongest franchise comebacks in recent memory.
The domestic market responded strongly despite mid-week openings. The movie launched in North America on a Wednesday with $30.5 million, followed by $25.3 million on Thursday. Over the five-day period, it amassed around $133 million, becoming one of the summer's biggest box office draws.
China played a significant role in the film's global success. Jurassic World Rebirth debuted in the country with a staggering $9.9 million on opening day, commanding over 50% of the total market share. It ultimately grossed $33.7 million during its first weekend, making it the year's biggest studio opening in China so far.
The film's success in China signals strong audience engagement, especially when compared to recent Hollywood releases that struggled to connect with local viewers.
In India, Jurassic World Rebirth delivered an impressive performance, grossing between ₹9 crore and ₹9.25 crore ($1.1–1.3 million) on its opening day. That made it the second-highest Hollywood opening in India in 2025, trailing only Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning.
On Day 2, the film added another ₹2.84 crore, bringing the cumulative total to ₹11.84 crore. Given the crowded release calendar, these numbers are remarkable and point to continued traction in the Indian market.
South Korea contributed significantly, bringing in $2.4 million on Saturday alone and totaling $5.1 million over the weekend. Rebirth claimed the top box office position in the country for three consecutive days.
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom and Ireland posted a combined $7.5 million, representing 50% of the total weekend market share and outperforming competitors like F1 The Movie. In France, the film launched with $1.8 million, placing second only to Lilo & Stitch for the year.
In Mexico, Rebirth pulled in $2.2 million on Friday alone, reaching $6.5 million by Sunday. The film opened at No. 1 in nearly every Latin American market. European territories like Spain, Italy, Germany, and Poland also delivered impressive returns, helping boost the international tally.
The film was particularly dominant in markets such as Thailand (76% share), Poland (42%), and the UAE (40%), solidifying its global appeal. In Taiwan, it even outperformed the entire lifetime gross of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, demonstrating strong franchise loyalty.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, known for Rogue One and Godzilla, Jurassic World Rebirth successfully blends new storytelling with the classic tone of Spielberg's original films. Edwards shot several sequences on 35mm film, adding a nostalgic texture that fans have widely praised.
The cast features Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, who deliver performances that resonate with audiences across age groups. Their dynamic adds emotional depth to the film's thrilling dinosaur action and gripping narrative.
Unlike Dominion, which concluded the previous trilogy, Jurassic World Rebirth serves as a franchise reboot. It introduces a fresh plot centered on a dinosaur rescue mission and a race to develop a life-saving drug. Critics and fans alike have responded positively to this new direction, which moves away from the militarization and cloning themes of the earlier films.
With more grounded storytelling, richer character development, and stunning visuals, the film is drawing in both longtime fans and new viewers.
Positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth have helped the film maintain momentum despite a competitive summer movie landscape. With limited blockbuster competition in the coming week, Jurassic World Rebirth is expected to continue performing strongly in its second weekend.
Industry analysts project a solid hold in the 40–50% drop range, which would place the film firmly on track for a potential $650–700 million global run if trends continue.

Universal Pictures Reportedly Concidering a Third WICKED Movie — GeekTyrant

It looks like we might be getting a third Wicked movie. A new rumor making the rounds suggests Universal Pictures is already exploring the possibility of Wicked 3 , even though Wicked: For Good is set to wrap up the original Broadway story in 2025. The word comes from insider MyTimeToShineHello, who claims: 'Even though Wicked: For Good covers the rest of the musical, there are talks about a possible third movie.' So what could a third film even be about? Director Jon M. Chu's two-part adaptation has so far stuck closely to the 2003 Broadway musical, but Wicked 's source material actually runs much deeper. Gregory Maguire's The Wicked Years novel series includes three sequels beyond the first book, which include Son of a Witch , A Lion Among Men , and Out of Oz . These books push past the events of The Wizard of Oz , introducing new characters and exploring the legacy of Elphaba, particularly through her son, Liir. Unlike the Broadway show, the novels go into darker, more introspective territory. Son of a Witch is especially focused on identity and trauma, as Liir searches for his place in a fractured Oz. Nor, the daughter of Fiyero and Liir's half-sister, also becomes a key player as the series evolves. These books don't sync up perfectly with the musical's tone or character outcomes. Chu's version implies Elphaba survives, just like the Broadway production, but Maguire's novels are more ambiguous and complex in how they handle that legacy. Any potential sequel would need to make some story changes if it hopes to bridge the two storytelling styles. Back in November 2024, composer Stephen Schwartz and screenwriter Winnie Holzman acknowledged they've had conversations about expanding the Wicked film universe. However, they were careful to note that any continuation wouldn't simply be Wicked Part Three or Part Four. At this point, nothing's official. But if Wicked: For Good performs well and fans want more Oz, it wouldn't be surprising to see Universal dive into uncharted waters with the franchise and expand the franchise.

Christopher Nolan's ‘The Odyssey' Teaser Leaks Online Amid Theatrical Rollout: Here's What Happens in the First Footage

The first teaser for Christopher Nolan and Universal's 'The Odyssey,' which is beginning to play exclusively in theaters, has leaked online on X and TikTok. Like many of Nolan's previous blockbusters, most recently for best picture winner 'Oppenheimer' in 2023, the famed director has released a short teaser more than a year in advance. 'The Odyssey' teaser is timed to be included alongside the release of Universal's 'Jurassic World Rebirth.' More from Variety 'One of Them Days' Standout Aziza Scott Joins Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page in Universal's 'Italianna' (EXCLUSIVE) Cynthia Erivo to Produce Sci-Fi Action Thriller 'Saturation Point' at Universal Steven Spielberg Debuts Nail-Biting Action Footage From New Film at Emotional Universal Theater Dedication The footage's exclusivity to theaters keeps with Nolan's longstanding prioritization of theatrical exhibition. The director jumped from his decades-long partner Warner Bros. to Universal for 'Oppenheimer' after he voiced dismay that his old studio woud be releasing its entire 2021 theatrical slate simultaneously to HBO Max. But even before 'The Odyssey' teaser could begin to play in the United States leaks began popping up Tuesday afternoon, with many of them getting swiftly taken down under copyright flags. This isn't the first time a major movie or show has been hit by a leak. 'Spider-Man: No Way Home,' 'House of the Dragon' and the final season of 'Game of Thrones' all faced early footage leaking online. Variety has reached out to Universal for comment. The teaser, which is 70 seconds long, briefly shows Matt Damon's lead character Odysseus, his son Telemachus (played by Tom Holland) and a mystery character played by Jon Bernthal. It begins with some narration by what sounds like Robert Pattinson, who also plays an unknown character. 'Darkness. Zeus' laws smashed to pieces. A kingdom without a king since my master died,' he says over shots of a dark blue ocean and waves crashing along the sandy shore. 'He knew it was an unwinnable war, and then somehow…somehow he won it.' There are two shots of what appears to be the famous Trojan Horse — Odysseus' master plan to sneak Greek soldiers into Troy, massacre the soldiers and sack the city to win the war. The wooden horse's shadow is stretched across the beach, then the horse itself is seen at a distance half-submerged in water as waves roll in. In Homer's original epic, Odysseus's journey home takes ten years after his ship is blown off course and he encounters monsters like the Cyclops, is held captive by the nymph Calypso, and has run-ins with various Greek gods. The teaser then cuts to a tense conversation between Telemachus and Bernthal's character, where the latter is explaining that he doesn't know Odysseus' whereabouts. 'I know nothing of Odysseus, not since Troy,' Bernthal says as a dark storm rolls in over the water. 'I have to find out what happened to my father. When did you last see him?' Holland replies. He and Bernthal are next to each other with other characters sitting beside them in the background, lit up by dim orange flames. 'Interested in rumor, huh? Gossip. Who has a story about Odysseus, huh?' Bernthal begins shouting to the others near them. 'You? You have a story?' There's a shot of Greek soldiers clad in armor and carrying torches marching through a city street at night. The white words 'One Year From Now' appear on the black screen, teasing the film's far-off release date. 'Some say he's rich or some say he's poor,' he continues as a faraway shot shows a Greek soldier stepping through a cavernous entrance and unsheathing his sword. 'A Journey Begins' is shown on screen. 'Some say he perished. Some say he's imprisoned. What say you?' Bernthal asks over a shot of men walking toward a city at night as a ragged flag waves. 'Imprisoned?' Telemachus asks. 'What kind of prison? Good, old man like that,' Bernthal says. There are a couple more shots of dark waves, and then it's revealed that Odysseus is stranded in the middle of the ocean on some scraps of wood. 'The Odyssey' and '17. 07. 26' flash on screen, ending the teaser. Like 'Oppenheimer,' the cast for 'The Odyssey' is sprawling and star-studded. It also includes Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Mia Goth, Corey Hawkins, Cosmo Jarvis and more. The film is currently in production and will be the first large-scale production to be shot entirely with Imax cameras. Like Nolan's past films, the teaser is expected to be released online later this year.
