Balzac Paris names new style director
Known for its subtle blend of timeless pieces and quirky details, such as XXL funnel necklines and leopard print, the label has retained its singular DNA while aiming for greater sophistication. On the program: greater attention to volumes, materials, finishes, and pattern-making. In September, the first pieces will reflect this shift, including the first ball skirts.
"With Kim Coiffier, we've found a vision that complements our own: demanding, free, feminine, and a little offbeat. She has brought a new precision to our cuts and greater care to the development of each piece. We're moving upmarket, yes, but without ever denying our barge spirit, our winks, and that joyful elegance that binds us to our customers," said Balzac Paris co-founder Chrysoline de Gastines.
Founded in 2014 by Chrysoline and Victorien de Gastines, with Charles Fourmaux, Balzac Paris is B Corp certified and became a mission-driven company in 2022. It favors European production and is committed to sustainable fashion. In 2023, it achieved sales of 24 million euros, representing growth of 30%.
The brand is pursuing its development with the opening of regional outlets: after Toulouse at the end of 2024, it is aiming to open in Bordeaux, Aix-en-Provence, Marseille, and Lyon. It is also exploring ephemeral formats, such as its recently inaugurated summer boutique in Biarritz.
With a more upscale collection and a sharper style, Balzac Paris is out to win new customers while continuing to unite its community.
To consolidate its development, Balzac Paris has also expanded its universe. In addition to women's ready-to-wear, the brand relaunched its men's wardrobe in 2024 and launched a beauty line, affirming its ambition to embody a stylish and responsible art of living.

The challenge of surtitling at the Avignon Festival
The Avignon Festival has consistently demonstrated its commitment to linguistic diversity, annually featuring a guest language and welcoming many international artists to the stages of the Cité des Papes. Surtitling performances – providing live translations projected above the stage – ensures that all audiences can enjoy the shows, a cornerstone of its cultural policy. First appearing in the 1980s, surtitles were initially used in opera. Introduced in Avignon under the creative direction of Olivier Py (2013-2022), surtitling became standard practice with the arrival of his successor, Tiago Rodrigues, who has championed ever-greater linguistic diversity. With a multilingual program, performances in foreign languages – and in French – are surtitled. In 2023, the festival created a dedicated position to "oversee the surtitling process from start to finish," explained Clara Moulin-Tyrode, deputy production director of the festival. While companies presenting work at the festival are asked to provide their own surtitling solutions, the festival itself allocates "€60,000 to €70,000" to supplement these efforts. The process is coordinated with other venues on tour. France's national performing arts agency (ONDA) and France's international cultural agency offer their support, while partnerships are formed with specialized organizations such as Panthéa, a leading European surtitling company for live performance.

Lululemon opens first Italy store in Milan
Lululemon announced on Friday the opening of its first store in Italy, with the Canadian activewear brand opting for the fashion capital of Milan to make its debut in the Italian market. Located at Vittorio Emanuele II 24/28, the new Milan store spans approximately 5,700 square feet across two floors, showcasing the sportswear brand's men's and women's collections across yoga, running, training, tennis, and golf. The store design is inspired by a hybrid architectural concept that blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary materials. A key design element is the Lululemon Glide sculptural façade, a custom 3-D printed installation that draws inspiration from Lululemon's Define Jacket pattern. The jacket's flowy geometry is designed to expand across the storefront, "emulating the properties of fabric on an architectural scale," according to a press release. The Milan store opening is the latest step in Lululemon's international expansion. The brand currently boasts stores in key markets including the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland. As previously announced, the company reiterated it plans to quadruple international revenue from 2021 levels by year-end 2026. Earlier this month, Lululemon revealed the opening of its first-ever store in a European airport, located in Heathrow Terminal 5, in London.
