DRDO conducts back-to-back Pralay missile test flights off Odisha
The test flights were carried out as a part of user evaluation trials to validate the maximum and minimum range capability of the missile system, the Union Ministry of Defence (MoD) said. The missiles precisely followed the intended trajectory and reached the target point with pinpoint accuracy, meeting all the test objectives. All subsystems performed as per expectations, which were verified using test data captured by tracking sensors deployed by the Integrated Test Range, including instruments deployed on ships positioned near the designated impact point.
Pralay is an indigenously developed solid propellant quasi-ballistic missile employing state of the art guidance and navigation to ensure high precision. The missile is capable of carrying multiple types of warheads against various targets. The system has been developed by Research Centre Imarat in collaboration with other DRDO labs; industry partners Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited; several industries, and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
The test flights were witnessed by senior scientists of the DRDO, representatives of users from the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army, as well as the industry representatives.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh complimented the DRDO, the armed forces, and the defence industry for the successful test flights. The missile equipped with modern technologies will provide a further technological boost to the armed forces against threats, Mr. Singh said.
Congratulating the teams, the Secretary, Department of Defence R&D, and DRDO Chairman Samir V. Kamat said the successful completion of the first phase of test flights paved the way for the induction of the system into the armed forces in the near future, the MoD said.
