The Indiana Fever are currently 9-8 heading in Saturday's matchup with the Los Angeles Sparks and in the heat of that, they also won the WNBA Commissioner's Cup against the Minnesota Lynx, which didn't count toward their overall record.

This season, the Indiana Fever have been without star point guard Caitlin Clark for a total of nine games, including the last four — a stretch during which they've gone 3-1. Their latest win came in dominant fashion on Thursday, defeating the Las Vegas Aces 81-54.
Clark is now set to miss her 10th game — and fifth straight — on Saturday. While the Fever have remained competitive in her absence, it's still clear they're a more dynamic and complete team with Clark on the floor.
However, ESPN analyst Carolyn Peck sparked widespread backlash with her recent comments suggesting the opposite — that Indiana may actually be more dangerous without Clark.
'Look, I think that Indiana is even more dangerous when Caitlin Clark doesn't play,' Peck said. 'Because she's a ball-dominant guard — the ball is in her hands a lot — so you know what you need to try to take away. But when you look at Indiana now, they have so many weapons… when you've got a point guard like Kelsey Mitchell and Aari McDonald making plays on the perimeter, and a post like Aliyah Boston, I'm going to tell you: Indiana — they are a threat.'

"Crazy levels of hate for the person who brought WNBA to relevancy," a fan said.
"Peck loves this narrative, she's been waiting to have a reason to discredit CC once again…" another fan posted.
Someone else added, "Such a Carolyn thing to say."
One more fan commented, "Idiotic comments like this are probably why she no longer coaches. She is a hater."

This season, Caitlin Clark is averaging 18.2 points, 8.9 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game — production that earned her a spot as one of two captains for the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game, alongside Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier.

Now set to miss her 10th game of the year, the Fever have gone 5-4 in her absence (including the Commissioner's Cup), the same record they've posted with her on the floor. That stretch with Clark includes a signature win over the defending WNBA champion New York Liberty.

Dalton Knecht's Message to Lakers After Shaky Debut

Dalton Knecht's Message to Lakers After Shaky Debut originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Dalton Knecht had a strong first season with the Los Angeles Lakers, parlaying his strong final season at Tennessee into a rotational role where he appeared in 78 games and averaged 9.1 points. Advertisement But Knecht stumbled out of the gate in the first action of his second season, struggling in the team's summer league debut on Saturday. The team's first-round pick from 2024 suited up for the California Classic, with the Lakers losing 89-87 to the Golden State Warriors. Knecht scored just 10 points in Saturday's game, going 3-for-13 from the field including 0-for-6 from behind the 3-point arc. After the game, Knecht sent a strong message to his Lakers teammates vowing to improve. 'It took a while for me to get going; I didn't get going at all,' Knecht said. 'I just have to come out ready to play better tomorrow and shake off the rust. My teammates were great, they came out competing, picking up full court, rebounding and crashing the glass, so I'm proud of my team.' Advertisement Los Angeles Lakers forward Dalton Knecht (4) against the Golden State Yamashita-Imagn Images Despite the shaky performance, Knecht has been working hard to improve after his first season with the Lakers. The 24-year-old told Dave McMenamin of ESPN that he has been doing three-a-day workouts since the season ended a few weeks ago. 'Starting at 6, I started since the season ended, right after the loss, pretty much started right away," Knecht said. "Didn't take any time off, so just getting in the gym starting at 6 a.m. and then going with the guys at 10 and coming back later at night to get up as many shots as I can and just working on my game and craft.' Aliyah Boston's Failed Final Shot Draws Blunt Response From Fever Coach

Aliyah Boston's Failed Final Shot Draws Blunt Response From Fever Coach originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After winning three straight games without Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston and the Indiana Fever came back down to Earth. Advertisement On Saturday night, Boston and the Fever suffered their ninth loss of the season, falling to Rickea Jackson and the Los Angeles Sparks, 89-87, in front of their home crowd at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The game swung when Jackson hit a short jumper to give the Sparks an 88-87 lead. No additional points were scored until three seconds remained, when Los Angeles' Azurá Stevens hit 1-of-2 free throws to make it 89-87. With three seconds left and possession, Boston received the ball at the top of the arc on what appeared to be a set play drawn up by coach Stephanie White. She took one dribble forward and pulled up for a midrange jumper at the buzzer, but the shot clanged off the front of the rim, sealing the loss. Advertisement After the loss, White joined the media for a postgame press conference. When discussing Boston's final shot, White claimed the former South Carolina forward had a "good look," but it just didn't fall her way. "Sometimes when teams play with that physicality and play with that length, it causes you to rush a little bit," White said. "AB had a really good look at the end… And sometimes it doesn't just fall your way." Boston finished the night with a game-high 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting, 12 rebounds and four assists. Natasha Howard added 21 points and nine rebounds for the Fever. But it was not enough to get past the 74 combined points between Jackson, Stevens, Kelsey Plum and Dearica Hamby. Caitlin Clark Shares Indiana Fever Rookie's Nickname After Career Game

Caitlin Clark Shares Indiana Fever Rookie's Nickname After Career Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After suffering a groin injury on June 24 against the Seattle Storm, Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark has now missed five consecutive games and 10 total during the 2025 WNBA season. Advertisement On Saturday, the Fever saw their three-game winning streak without Clark come to an end thanks to an 89-87 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks. With both Clark and Damiris Dantas (Brazil national team obligations) out for the last few games, other players, such as rookie forward Makayla Timpson, have been able to see the court more. And she didn't disappoint on Saturday despite the loss. In 12 minutes off the bench, the 2025 second-round pick tallied career-highs of five points on 2-of-4 shooting and six rebounds, along with one block. One of Timpson's standout moments came late in the first quarter, when she blocked Sparks forward Rickea Jackson and sent the ball flying toward the Indiana bench right into Clark's hands. Advertisement Clark was left impressed with the Fever rookie, reacting to her performance by sharing Timpson's popular nickname on her Instagram story with a photo of the rookie's block. "Kk!!!!! @ Clark captioned her story. Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark's post about rookie Makayla from Caitlin Clark's Instagram Story The nickname "Kk" is nothing new to Timpson. In fact, she has been called this since her college days with the Florida State Seminoles. Timpson has now appeared in four straight games, logging 11 or more minutes in each, and has made a noticeable impact, particularly on the defensive end, with a total of four steals and three blocks. On the season (11 games), she is averaging 1.3 points and 1.4 rebounds. Advertisement The Fever will have a few days off before their next game on Wednesday, hosting Kate Martin and the Golden State Valkyries in the third of a five-game home stand. At the time of this article, it is unclear if Clark will be available for that game.
