Elle Fanning Reportedly in the Running for Major X-MEN Role in the MCU — GeekTyrant

Geek Tyrant20 hours ago
The X-Men are coming, and Marvel fans are already dissecting every rumor, theory, and casting hint. While the old Fox-era team is expected to make a multiversal splash in Avengers: Doomsday , Marvel Studios is clearly building toward its own definitive version of the X-Men , and a familiar name is reportedly back in the mix.
According to entertainment insider Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast with John Rocha, Elle Fanning is once again being considered for a major role in the MCU's future X-Men lineup. Specifically, she's reportedly being eyed for Jean Grey, one of the most iconic and complex characters in the mutant canon.
Sneider mentioned that Fanning is on the shortlist alongside Margaret Qualley and Daisy Edgar-Jones, saying the Predator: Badlands actress is 'back on the list' for Jean with Marvel's new class of mutants.
Fanning's potential connection to the role isn't new. She was previously in the running for X-Men: Apocalypse before the Disney-Fox merger, a part that ultimately went to Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner. The reason? Apparently, it came down to Instagram followers.
Fanning said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast in May 2023: 'I did try out for…I'm not going to say what it was, but I didn't get a part once for something big because – it might not have just been this reason, but this was the feedback that I heard – was because I didn't have enough Instagram followers at the time.'
'So that was a little like…I firmly don't believe in not getting a part [for that]. It was for a bigger thing, a franchise thing.'
Turner later confirmed that situation in her own words: 'I auditioned for a project and it was between me and another girl who is a far better actress than I am, far better, but I had the followers, so I got the job. It's not right, but it is part of the movie industry now.'
With Marvel Studios gearing up for what's being unofficially called the 'Mutant Saga,' it looks like the X-Men are going to be a key part of the next chapter after Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars .
Kevin Feige has teased a long-term roadmap for the mutants, saying Marvel is laying out a 10-year plan, much like it did with the Infinity Saga.
We're still in rumor territory here, but with Death Stranding 2 and a steady stream of acclaimed performances under her belt, Fanning is riding a new wave of visibility and critical respect. If she does land the role of Jean Grey, it would mark a poetic return to a part she was once passed over for, this time on talent alone.

This Special Edition Release of ‘It' Is Both Gorgeous and Terrifying

It has been a TV miniseries and a two-part feature film, and a prequel series—It: Welcome to Derry—is coming to HBO later this year. But there's no out-creeping the original 1986 Stephen King novel, released long before the phrase 'un-Google-able title' came into existence. With over 1,100 pages, it's one of King's longest works, and to have even a paperback copy means you'll need ample shelf space. But a new special release from the Folio Society is so fancy, it may need an entire shelf of its own. Maybe even a display case. This edition, limited to just 500 copies and approved by King himself, features both color and black-and-white illustrations by Jim Burns; the box, binding, and endpapers are by David Curtis. (Curtis also designed 'instructions on how to make a paper boat,' according to a Folio Society press release, in case the book inspires you to go hunting for a sewer-dwelling demonic clown.) But that's not all! There's also a new introduction by no less a nightmare authority than Guillermo del Toro, who writes, 'It speaks of the struggle that never ends, the eternal vigil against evil that is, by necessity, cyclical. The many shapes the cosmic dread takes keep changing: sometimes smiling, sometimes frowning at us.' 'It was a presage of what was to come in adult years—it struck great fear in me—irrational fear and then, slowly, a fragile kind of bravery— the tenuous understanding that when all is said and done, all we have is each other.' Those themes are there, for sure, and in this particular case, they're wrapped in some rather beautiful gore. Check out more images here: Beep beep! Jon Stewart spoofs Elmo's X account getting hacked

We have seen Elmo of 'Sesame Street' in a variety of lights, but never as an alt-right supporter. After the beloved character's X account was hacked, Jon Stewart decided to have some fun with a look-alike puppet of Elmo on the 'The Daily Show' on Monday. The talk show host reminded the audience with a photo that he had worked with the famed muppet years ago and said he was 'shocked' by the tweets. Stewart, voicing the 'Elmo' puppet, claimed that he was hacked after someone 'guessed Elmo's password was Elmo! Elmo123. Elmo knows passwords should have more numbers, but Elmo only knows three numbers.' Stewart soon got the 'truth,' insisting Elmo needed to take responsibility for his actions. 'It was Elmo, but Elmo was radicalized by the manosphere. Elmo is part of the male loneliness epidemic,' Stewart as the puppet said. 'Elmo was doing his own research on flu shots. Six hours later, because of the algorithm, Elmo was moderating the QAnon Discord chat and building homemade bombs.' After Stewart reminded him of his influence on children, the muppet clapped back. 'Once again, the so-called tolerant left policing speech that's inconvenient to their woke dogma,' he said. 'Who's the real puppet now, Jon? You! You're the real puppet.' They then got to the heart of the matter after Stewart accused the character of sharing 'alt-right talking point word salad.' 'Elmo's alt-right,' the puppet said, joking he was pandering to save funding for public broadcasting and children's education programs. 'No reason to cancel Elmo's funding then.' President Donald Trump has encouraged Congress to revoke funding for PBS, the birthplace of 'Sesame Street,' accusing them of a liberal bias. 'Elmo can't go back on the streets, Jon! You have no idea what it's like,' Stewart said as the puppet. 'Elmo's too pretty to live under a bridge, Jon.'

Hunter Doohan Talks ‘Wednesday' Season Two, Saint Laurent and Playing Murderers

Before he says anything further, Hunter Doohan issues an apology. 'I'm sorry it took three years,' the actor says of 'Wednesday,' the hit Netflix series he stars in, and its upcoming second season. The show became a sensation when it premiered in 2022, and at long last the new season will arrive in August — part one, at least. More from WWD Keke Palmer Brings Platform Power to 2025 Essence Festival, Pairing Saint Laurent Heels With Capri Trend Paris Trade Events Double Down on Creative Formats, Offering Emily Alyn Lind on Tackling Dark Themes in YA Adaptation 'We Were Liars' and Making Teens Feel Something In the meantime, the show's cast has become stars, including 31-year-old Doohan, who plays Tyler Galpin. Doohan is freshly back from Paris, where he attended Saint Laurent's men's show during fashion week. 'I've gotten to go to a few [fashion shows] since 'Wednesday' came out, which has been such an unexpected side effect of the whole whirlwind of 'Wednesday,' but yeah, it's still very new to me,' he says over a Zoom call from his Los Angeles home. 'I grew up in Arkansas, so 15-year-old me in Buckle jeans did not foresee sitting at these shows.' For the Saint Laurent show, he opted for a classic suiting separates look, which was the first one he tried on. 'It was the first one I tried on and I loved it, and then I tried on their leather pants and I just immediately was like, 'Oh, I like the first one,' but someone on my team was like, 'I don't know if you're a leather guy,'' he says. 'I kept thinking of the 'Devil Wears Prada' scene where they're like, 'Are you wearing the Chanel boots?'' Highlights of the show experience included seeing the new collection, of course, as well as reuniting with friends who came over from London — and meeting Cristin Milioti at the after party. 'I was obsessed,' he says. 'I love her.' Doohan heads out shortly to New Zealand to shoot the new 'Evil Dead' movie, where he'll be when 'Wednesday' finally makes its return — and when he can stop worrying about spoiling the show. 'I don't want to be the Tom Holland of 'Wednesday,'' he says, alluding to the 'Spider-Man' actor's revealing of spoilers during press appearances. 'I feel like a jerk sometimes in these interviews, I'm like, 'I can't say that. I can't say anything.'' He can say that the new season is 'bigger and better' than the first. While season one of 'Wednesday' saw Tyler initially as a barista at the local coffee shop who was later uncovered to be a hyde, season two has him more in the fantasy of it all. 'It was really fun to be in the Tim Burton world a bit more because I'm not pretending to be the nice boyfriend barista,' Doohan says. 'So this time I really felt like from the start I was living in the heightened genre of the world the whole time.' Doohan grew up in Fort Smith, Ark., and fell in love with acting, and theater specifically, when he auditioned for the school musical his sophomore year of high school. 'I never saw film and TV as an option growing up there, even though I loved it. It just truly never even crossed my mind as something I could even try to pursue, whereas theater felt realistic,' he says. 'We had our high school theater and our community theater.' Rather than pursue a degree in musical theater, he decided to try moving to L.A. and giving it a shot – and he's been there ever since. Beyond 'Wednesday' and 'Evil Dead Burn,' he'll be seen in an independent film called 'The Wilderness' this fall. After that, he's wondering if he should try his hand at some new roles. 'I think I need to maybe play a few less murderers,' he jokes. 'Maybe do a comedy.'
