Law & Order: SVU Is Bringing Kelli Giddish Back as a Series Regular

Yahoo15-05-2025
Our long, 'Rollisi'-related nightmare is over: Kelli Giddish is returning to Law & Order: SVU full-time, TVLine has confirmed.
Giddish will be back on the NBC procedural as a series regular in Season 27. Our sister site Deadline first reported the news.

Giddish left SVU as a series regular in December 2022 but has returned several times since then. In Season 26, which comes to a close tonight, so far she has shown up in five episodes; Episode 20 was the latest. At times, it felt as though the show struggled with how to reconcile Rollins' heightened importance in the show's history with the reality of Giddish's limited stints.
Series star/executive producer Mariska Hargitay has gone on record saying that she fought Giddish's ouster in 2022 and that she wanted to bring her back in more than a recurring capacity.
'Kelli is my favorite actor to work with. Kelli is my heart,' Hargitay said in a May 2024 interview with our sister site Variety. 'It's a sore subject. I have a lot of say on the show [as the star and an executive producer since Season 15], but I didn't have enough there.'

She added: 'I don't like not being listened to, especially when I'm right… That relationship was one of the most powerful relationships in television because you saw these two badass women, so flawed and so there for each other.'
Season 26 found Giddish's character promoted to sergeant and taking on a new role in the New York Police Department's Intelligence Unit. Rollins' new job often required travel, which explained her absences from both the police department and her home life with husband, Assistant District Attorney Dominick 'Sonny' Carisi, and their children.

Kelly Rowland And AJ McLean On Their Dream Bands

We all know the iconic Kelly Rowland from Destiny's Child and superstar AJ McLean from the Backstreet Boys. C'mon, they are pop ROYALTY. We recently had the chance to chat with them for Netflix's Building the Band. The duo were genuine, lovely, and charismatic. My inner child was SCREAMING WITH EXCITEMENT. Building the Band is a unique competition show that brings together talented singers from all over the world to build the perfect band. The singers are in complete control of their own destiny as they listen and chat with the other singers, seeking to form their very own bands in individual 'booths' without ever seeing each other. It's all about chemistry. Its kind of like Love is Blind meets American Idol meets The Voice. The individual singers are literally building their own bands based on only hearing each others' voices and having conversations in their own 'booths'. The goal? To build the next great music band! AJ McLean is the host of the Building the Band and Kelly Rowland is a guest judge. Nicole Scherzinger is a mentor/judge and the late Liam Payne is a guest judge. Naturally, we just HAD to ask AJ and Kelly who they would put in their dream bands. And no, they weren't allowed to include their current or past band members. AJ said, "I'm going to say Bruno Mars and Ryan Tedder...I feel like we all kind of grew up on R&B, soul, pop. I think it would be a solid pop, R&B group." For Kelly, her dream band would be, "Roberta Flack and Lauryn Hill." "Oh good one!" added AJ in the background. For the full interview clip and what genre of band they'd be, watch here: Building The Band is streaming now on Netflix. I, for one, am completely hooked. Frontman Adam Levine and lead guitarist James Valentine also discussed the album, titled Love is Like, on the show. "You said, Adam, recently that this album, Love is Like -- this one that's about to come out -- is deeply personal and you're going back to your roots. How so?" co-host Craig Melvin asked Levine. "We came up in a time when like you didn't really have any outside help with writing songs," Levine said. After a long time of collaborative work, this album represented an opportunity "just to come back to, 'Hey, you know, lemme see if we can do this again, and do this just with us and let's see if it still works.'" The album will feature the previously released tracks "All Night," "California" and "Priceless" with Blackpink's Lisa. Other songs include "Hideaway," "Love is Like" with Lil Wayne, "Yes I Did," "I Like It" with Sexyy Red, "Burn Burn Burn," "Jealousy Problems" and "My Love."
