Duo held in connection with 'armed' robberies in Kelantan
Authorities also seized an imitation firearm.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said police had received six reports of robberies and one attempted robbery involving convenience stores between May 10 and yesterday.
The suspects, believed to be in their early and late 20s, were detained at 6.45am by a team from the Special Investigation Division (D9) of the Kelantan police contingent headquarters in the Jalan Sultanah Zainab area yesterday.
All the incidents followed the same modus operandi, with the suspects entering the stores armed with an object resembling a pistol and demanding cash from staff at the counter.
Following the arrests, police seized a fake Walther P99 pistol, two motorcycles, and other personal items believed to have been used during the crimes.
The case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code, which provide for a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment and caning upon conviction.
Mohd Yusoff said the case was resolved in under 72 hours through swift action and precise intelligence-gathering by the police.

Probe into JAC leak will be fair and thorough, says Home Minister
KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating all aspects surrounding the alleged leak of the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) meeting minutes, which surfaced online on 12 July. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said this was to ensure the probe is carried out comprehensively, fairly, and in accordance with the rule of law. He said police are also working with related agencies, including JAC to complete this investigation. "An investigation has been carried out under Section 8 of the Official Secrets Act 1972, Section 203A of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. "The investigation paper will be referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers for further action once the investigation is complete," he said. He said this in a written reply to Ramkarpal Singh (PH–Bukit Gelugor) regarding the status of a police report made by a Federal Court judge's officer on purported JAC meeting minutes that were leaked. On July 13, police confirmed receiving a report regarding the leak of a document alleged to be minutes from a JAC meeting, which recently circulated on social media.

Motorcycle theft: Duo held in Lahad Datu

District Police Chief, ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail, said the duo, a 29-year-old local man and a 36-year-old foreigner were detained at Jalan Tengah Nipah. Dzulbaharin said the duo are suspected involved in a motorcycle theft case involving a Yamaha Y15ZR which belonged to a 28-year-old woman that reported it missing on July 23. 'Acting on tip-off, a team from the Lahad Datu Police Headquarters arrested both suspects at about 10.30pm. 'A check found that the man had three previous records related to drugs while the foreigner does not have an identification document,' he said.
