Aanand L Rai On Dhanush And Sonam Kapoor's Reaction To Raanjhanaa's Altered Ending: ‘Nobody Approves Of This'

News182 days ago
Aanand L Rai slams Raanjhanaa's AI-altered ending, says neither Dhanush nor Sonam Kapoor approved the change. He plans to remove his name from the new version.
Filmmaker Aanand L Rai has been openly expressing his displeasure over Eros International's decision to revise the ending of his cult classic Raanjhanaa with the help of AI. Now, the director, in a recent conversation, shared the reaction of the film's leads, Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush, to this news.
While speaking to Times Now, Rai shared, 'Nobody approves of this. Who would like it, and why? A character that has already been established—it takes years to truly live a story. An actor invests a major part of their life into it, and you suddenly want to change it? How is that even possible?"
'There's always a reason why a story is told. What is the intention behind telling this particular story? It belongs to a genre called tragedy, which has its own flavour. The audience connects with it. You can't simply change a story by rewriting the ending. An actor brings layers of emotions to a character, which actually gives weight to the genre. You can't just say, 'Let's change the ending, now no one dies, and everyone lives happily.' That's not how stories are told," he further continued and added.
Rai has already raised his objections with Eros over the AI-created alternate ending in the re-release, making it clear he did not approve of the change. However, since the studio has neither agreed nor acted on his concerns, he now plans to send a formal letter demanding his name be removed from the AI-altered version.
In the original ending of Raanjhanaa, Dhanush's character, Kundan, dies. But in the AI-modified version, the story takes a different path, with Kundan surviving and the film concluding on a happier note.
For the unversed, Aanand L Rai has previously collaborated with Dhanush in Atrangi Re. They are working on their third film together, Tere Ishk Mein, with Kriti Sanon.
Why did Eros alter the ending of Raanjhanaa?
In a statement to PTI, the company's Group CEO, Pradeep Dwivedi, said, 'This is a creative reimagining, not a replacement, and is consistent with global industry practices, including anniversary editions, alternate cuts, and modernised remasters. We categorically reject Mr. Rai's allegations, which are not only factually incorrect but also legally unfounded. The re-release is a respectful reinterpretation and not a 'tampering' of the original. It is clearly positioned as an alternate, AI-enhanced version—akin to classic cuts or re-edits seen globally."

Divya Agarwal Remembers Late YouTuber Danish Zehen, Says ‘Regret Not Being Able To See Him Outside'

Divya Agarwal recalls her bond with late YouTuber Danish Zehen from Ace of Space, saying she regrets not getting to meet him outside the reality show. Divya Agarwal is one of the most talked-about celebrities in the reality space. She gained recognition after appearing on Splitsvilla and rose to further fame with Ace of Space, a one-of-a-kind show where she was a co-contestant with the late YouTuber Danish Zehen. Now, in a recent interview, the actor-model opened up about what she will regret the most about the show. In conversation with Filmygyan, Divya shared, 'I will always have this regret that I couldn't see him outside that house, but we had some great times. It took me a while to realise what kind of a guy he was because we were in separate rooms. But jab dosti badhti gayi, I started liking him. He was really talented, and it was that time when YouTubers were doing meaningful things." Ace of Space contestant and popular face on YouTube, Danish Zehen, died in a tragic accident in 2018. Reportedly, the 21-year-old was returning from a wedding when the accident took place near Vashi, Navi Mumbai. Danish was quite popular on social media and had one million followers on Instagram. His sudden death left his fans and followers in deep shock. Meanwhile, Divya appears to be embracing a more balanced and reflective stage of life, as she is now married to businessman Apurva Padgaonkar. The couple tied the knot in February last year. Divya and Apurva had a traditional Marathi wedding ceremony in Mumbai. A few months ago, Divya and Apurva's divorce rumours surfaced on social media. However, reacting to these speculations, the actress clarified, 'I made no noise. I made no comments or stories. I deleted 2,500 posts. Yet the media chose to see and react only to my marriage. It's funny how people see and expect things out of me. I have always done something people never expected out of me. And what are they expecting now – the babies or divorce… none of it is happening (side-eyes emoji)." On the work front, the actress has acted in series like Cartel, Puncch Beat, Abhay, and Fuh Se Fantasy. She also started her own dance academy, Elevate Dance Institute. Addinath Kothare Confirms Playing Bharat In Ramayana: 'It's The Biggest Film Made On Indian Soil'

Last Updated: Addinath Kothare says he feels blessed to play Bharat in Ramayana, calling it the biggest Indian film ever made and lauding its vision, scale and writing. Addinath Kothare is thrilled to be a part of Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, a film he believes is among the biggest projects ever made in Indian cinema. The actor, who will portray Bharat, Lord Ram's devoted brother, expressed his deep gratitude for the opportunity and praised the film's scale, vision, and writing. Sharing how special the film is to him, Addinath told Bollywood Hungama, 'It's a blessing yaar. It's the biggest film made on Indian soil. It's also one of the biggest films made globally today. To be a part of it, I am truly indebted to Mukesh Chhabra. He is the man who cast me and, of course, Nitesh sir for choosing me for the character of Bharat. And also Namit Malhotra sir who believed in me and entrusted me with such a big responsibility." For those unfamiliar with the epic, Bharat is one of the four brothers of Lord Ram, known for his unwavering loyalty and selflessness. Addinath noted that the scale and ambition of Ramayana are unlike anything he's seen before. Impressed by the makers' dedication, the actor revealed, 'They are amazingly clear of what their vision is. They are absolutely well-planned. They have spent almost 10 years in the pre-production of this project. Nitesh sir started the journey of scripting Ramayana since 2016 or 17 something. Also, Namit sir, Prime Focus and Nitesh sir have been working on the VFX and the pre-production started even before the lockdown, I think." Calling the film a masterclass in production planning, Addinath added, 'It's one of the most well-planned cinema on Indian soil, I think. We are fortunate enough to witness this from close quarters. And I am really fortunate to have got this opportunity in such a big film, not just as an actor, filmmaker, human being, but just to get to witness this humongous scale of film production. No film school can teach you this." He also revealed that the script itself blew him away. 'I was blown away when I heard the screenplay. Now, the display, production value, VFX and detailing; all this is just a cherry on the cake. It is one of the finest scripts I have read, to be honest." Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman and Sunny Deol as Hanuman.
