Culver City Is Losing a Hand-Pulled Noodle Destination

Eater23-06-2025
Bang Bang Noodles, a Chinese hand-pulled noodle shop, is closing its Culver location in the Citizen Public Market at the end of June. The restaurant, which specializes in Xi'an-style biang-biang mian, announced the closure in an Instagram post on June 22. Bang Bang's Downtown LA location will remain open.
Bang Bang Noodles was founded as a pop-up in early 2020 by chef Robert Lee, who had previously worked at restaurants in San Sebastian, New York City, and Los Angeles. In 2023, Lee opened the first permanent location for Bang Bang Noodles at Citizen Public Market, bringing his signature tingly cumin lamb noodles tossed in chile oil to the neighborhood. In the years since opening, the menu has expanded beyond just the cumin lamb noodles to include Xi'an tomato noodles and Szechuan garlic noodles.
After Bang Bang Noodles closes in Culver, those looking for a great bowl of hand-pulled noodles should try Noodle Art in the Original Farmers Market or LAN Noodle, which operates locations in West Hollywood and the San Gabriel Valley.
Shiku, a homestyle Korean stand in Grand Central Market from the team behind Baroo, is donating its proceeds from June to August to non-profits that support immigrants in Los Angeles. 50 percent of profits from this summer will be donated to the Immigrant Defenders Law Center, National Day Laborer Organizing Network, and the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA).
Frogtown Mexican seafood destination Loreto is popping up at the Santa Monica Proper Hotel for the summer. The pop-up will take over the terrace at Calabra between June 20 and September 1. Expect crudos, ceviches, and seafood-topped tostadas, paired with mezcalitas, and more.
Rihanna was spotted out and about in Los Angeles sporting a Saint Laurent dress and a Schiaparelli gym bag, paired with the iconic blue and yellow Fatburger soda cup. Rihanna, if you're reading this, please drop the Fatburger order. See More: Intel

Trump, Xi may meet ahead of or during APEC summit October: report

President Trump might visit China before going to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit between Oct. 30 and Nov. 1, or he could meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the APEC event in South Korea, the South China Morning Post reported on Sunday, citing multiple sources. The two countries have been trying to negotiate an end to an escalating tit-for-tat tariff war that has upended global trade and supply chains. The two sides have discussed a potential meeting between the leaders in the region this year, but they have not confirmed a date or location yet, according to a person familiar with the matter. President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2019. REUTERS Trump has sought to impose tariffs on US importers for virtually all foreign goods, which he says will stimulate domestic manufacturing and which critics say will make many consumer goods more expensive for Americans. He has called for a universal base tariff rate of 10% on goods imported from all countries, with higher rates for imports from the most 'problematic' ones, including China: imports from there now have the highest tariff rate of 55%. Trump has set a deadline of Aug. 12 for the US and China to reach a durable tariffs agreement. The two countries' most recent high-level meeting was on July 11, when Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had what both described as a productive and positive meeting in Malaysia about how trade negotiations should proceed. Rubio said then that Trump had been invited to China to meet with Xi, and said that both leaders 'want it to happen.' On Friday, China Commerce Minister Wang Wentao said China wants to bring its trade ties with the US back to a stable footing and that recent talks in Europe showed there was no need for a tariff war.

China imposes exit bans on Wells Fargo banker, U.S. government worker

The Chinese government is preventing a Wells Fargo employee, as well as an employee of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, from leaving the country. File Photo by Larry W. Smith/EPA-EFE July 20 (UPI) -- The Chinese government is preventing a Chinese American banker for Wells Fargo and, separately, an employee of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office from leaving the country, reports said Sunday. The identity of the detained U.S. government employee was not known to the Washington Post, which first reported the news. Mao Chenyue, the managing director of Wells Fargo Credit Solutions, was confirmed as the bank employee facing the exit ban by the company in statements to The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. People familiar with the Patent and Trademark Office employee's case told the Washington Post that he traveled to China to visit family but allegedly failed to disclose on his visa application that he worked for the government. Wells Fargo has since reportedly suspended travel by its executives to China, noting in its statement to The New York Times that the company is tracking the situation and working "through the appropriate channels" to ensure their employee is returned. The company did not provide any details as to why Mao was prevented from leaving the country but noted that she has not been detained in China and is free to move about the country. "We have raised our concern with Chinese authorities about the impact arbitrary exit bans on U.S. citizens have on our bilateral relations and urged them to immediately allow impacted U.S. citizens to return home," said a U.S. Embassy in Beijing spokesperson. A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman was asked about Mao's exit ban on Friday but said he was not aware of it. Her LinkedIn account, reviewed by UPI, shows that she was active on social media as recently as two weeks ago when she thanked people for congratulatory messages on her recent election as chairman of FCI.
