Chicago man charged after crash into Indiana highway wall

A Chicago man was charged Tuesday with drunkenly crashing into a highway wall, records allege. Kyle N. Davis, 32, is charged with causing serious bodily injury when operating a vehicle while intoxicated and two misdemeanors. He is in custody, held on a $2,000 cash bond. Indiana State Police responded at 12:22 a.m. July 21 to the .02-mile marker on I-80 west in Hammond, just inside the state line. Davis initially told police he swerved to avoid someone in front of him and hit the wall. Then, as cops went to get the woman's ID, he changed his story, saying they had been at the casino for hours and he lost control of his white Chevrolet Equinox. 'You can test me right now, I ain't even drunk,' he said. He told police he had a busted lip and an injured leg. His female passenger was taken to the hospital with a cut lip, head pain and 'memory issues.' An affidavit shows Davis had a no contact order that barred him from seeing the woman. He told police he thought it just prevented them from fighting.

Elderly man killed trying to save turtle on Florida interstate

A 77-year-old Vermont man was killed on Sunday afternoon while attempting to rescue a turtle on Interstate 95 in Indian River County, Florida, authorities said. The fatal accident occurred around 4:20 p.m. on the southbound lanes of I-95, just north of Sebastian Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The man was crossing the lanes when a chain-reaction crash unfolded, investigators said. A Miami woman driving a vehicle slowed down to avoid hitting the pedestrian, but a Dodge Ram pickup truck behind her failed to brake in time, authorities noted. The pickup truck rear-ended the first vehicle, which then veered off the road, crashed through a fence and came to rest on the west side, according to authorities. The Ram continued southbound and struck the Vermont man, who was thrown to the left shoulder of the highway, officials said. First responders pronounced the man dead at the scene, officials noted. The driver of the Dodge Ram, identified as a 53-year-old Port St. Lucie man, and the occupants of the other vehicle -- a 44-year-old woman and her 49-year-old male passenger -- were not injured in the crash, authorities said. The southbound lanes of I-95 were closed following the incident while authorities investigated.

Man dies after being rear-ended into oncoming traffic in western Wisconsin crash

Authorities say a man is dead after a multi-vehicle crash early Sunday afternoon in western Wisconsin. The crash happened at the intersection of Wisconsin Highway 35 and 240th Avenue, south of the Village of Luck, at approximately 1:16 p.m., according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Investigators say a man driving a Toyota pick-up truck northbound on Highway 35 slowed down to make a left turn when he was struck from behind by a Chevy Silverado. The impact pushed the Toyota into the southbound traffic lane and an oncoming Dodge Ram collided with it. Despite emergency medical care, authorities say the driver of the Toyota died as a result of the crash. His identity will be released later. The sheriff's office did not say if there were any other injuries reported in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
