Maal Hijrah 1447H celebrated nationwide with unity and reflection
Activities included religious talks, Quran recitations, and awards for outstanding contributions to Islam and the nation.
In Kuala Lumpur, nearly 8,000 attendees gathered at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, graced the event alongside Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
In his royal address, Sultan Ibrahim cautioned against using Islam for political gain.
The National Tokoh Maal Hijrah award was presented to former Johor Mufti Datuk Dr Nooh Gadot, while Saudi Arabia's Minister of Haj and Umrah, Dr Tawfig Fawzan Muhammed Al-Rabiah, received the International Maal Hijrah Figure award.
This year's theme, 'Membangun Ummah MADANI,' urged Muslims to embrace the values of Prophet Muhammad's hijrah for a balanced society.
In Pahang, Tengku Arif Bendahara Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Ri'ayatuddin Shah attended the state-level celebration at Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah.
Former Pahang Mufti Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Osman was honoured as the state's Maal Hijrah Figure.
Melaka's event at Al-Hakeem Mosque saw Datuk Azmar Talib named Maal Hijrah Figure for 2025.
He expressed his commitment to uplifting the Muslim economy, particularly for the underprivileged.
Kedah's Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah called for emulating hijrah values to address modern challenges.
Sabah's celebration at the Sabah International Convention Centre honoured veteran politician Datuk Datu Amir Kahar Datu Mustapha and former newsreader Datuk Seri Norsuadah Basah.
Johor emphasised holistic development with its theme 'Membangun Ummah Maju Johor,' while Terengganu's event highlighted progressive Islamic values.
Penang's celebration, led by Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, reinforced the national theme.
In Sarawak, Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg urged Muslims to be agents of change, aligning with the state's vision of progress and prosperity.

KUALA LUMPUR: The extension of the mandatory retirement age for civil servants could significantly improve their financial stability by allowing more time to pay off debts and increase savings. Currently, civil servants retire at 60, the same minimum age set for private sector workers under the Minimum Retirement Age Act 2012. Dr Sathiskumar proposed a flexible implementation, noting that not all sectors may suit a retirement age of 65. 'Critical fields like medicine and education benefit from experienced professionals, but health and performance monitoring must ensure service quality remains high,' he added. Aminuddin Awang, president of the National Union of Teaching Professions (NUTP), pointed out that Malaysia's retirement age is lower than in countries like Singapore and the Philippines. 'This policy should be voluntary, not forced. While it may temporarily affect promotions and hiring, experienced staff should have the option to continue serving if capable,' he said. Sixth Arab-Hadrami gathering strengthens community ties in Melaka
MELAKA: The sixth Himpunan 1,000 Jamaah, jointly organised by Al Jamiatul Khairiah and Al-Wafaa Melaka, successfully brought together over 500 members of Malaysia's Arab-Hadrami community in Ayer Keroh. The event, attended by Yemen's Ambassador to Malaysia, Dr Adil Bahamid, highlighted the community's historical contributions to Islam, trade, and social development in the country. PM Anwar: PH not taking sides in political ‘love triangle' conflict in Sabah
KOTA KINABALU, Aug 3 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) will not take sides in the political 'love triangle' involving Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Barisan Nasional (BN), said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The PH chairman and Parti Keadilan Rakyat president has said that the national coalition will instead play a balancing role between the rival blocs to maintain political stability while avoiding three-cornered contests and preventing further division among allies. 'Love can sometimes hurt,' he said with a smile. 'But that is the meaning of love.' He was asked how PH planned on juggling the 'love triangle' of PH-BN and PH-GRS as two separate but conflicting pacts in the upcoming state elections. Anwar said that discussions are ongoing between the respective committees and it was his hope that they could avoid overlapping candidacies between the three coalitions. 'For now we are trying to secure an arrangement where there is no three-corner fight,' he said. 'But in the case it has to happen, our advice is that probably we will try and refrain from entering this battle to avoid creating division,' he said. When asked whether the situation might confuse voters, Anwar admitted there would be challenges. 'To some areas where there is this conflict, I'm sure it is. This message we have sent to the three parties — PH, BN, and GRS — that our intention is to make sure, if necessary, to secure that sort of understanding, because that is a priority,' he said. 'What is important is for PH to have a constructive goal — to make sure that its presence is to qualify the reformative agenda, and to understand that we need full collaboration of all parties to ensure the stability of a strong state government, which is to me essential to cooperate with the federal government, for the benefit of Sabah and Malaysia,' he said. The prime minister had previously expressed his hopes for a three way pact but Sabah Umno and GRS had refused an alliance after falling out in early 2023.
