Indonesia open: Tang Jie-Ee Wei check into semis, Soon Huat-Shevon check out of tourney
In the Super 1000 tournament quarter-final clash at the iconic Istora Senayan, the Malaysians needed 54 minutes to overcome fifth-seeded Danes Jesper Toft-Amalie Magelund 17-21, 21-16, 21-14.
Their reward is a last-four showdown against sixth seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran after the Thais dashed hopes of an all-Malaysian semi-final by disposing of Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie 21-16, 21-12.
Tang Jie said they focused a lot on raising their tempo to match their Danish opponents' pace and stayed aggressive throughout their first-ever meeting against Toft-Magelund.
'I think my partner did a great job leading the way today and that really helped us to eventually win the match,' he said in an audio recording shared by Badminton World Federation to the media.
Shevon, meanwhile, was disappointed with their inability to remain consistent, resulting in them committing unforced errors to give away cheap points to the world number six Thai pair.
Soon Huat also admitted that they crumbled under pressure and struggled to keep up with the speed and intensity of Dechapol-Supissara.

One of Malaysia's largest mass-participation running events will see 33,000 participants taking to the streets of Putrajaya on July 13. The race has drawn runners, aiming to cross the finish lines in the 5km, 10km, 21km and 42km courses, from more than 48 countries. Score Marathon is supported by the Youth and Sports Ministry and certified a World Athletics Label Road Race. This recognises the full marathon as a qualifying race for the Abbott World Marathon Majors while making its affiliation with the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races official, inducting it into an elite group of globally recognised events.

Jafar-Felisha, ranked No. 14 in the world, sent shockwaves in the opening round by ousting All-England champions Guo Xinwa-Cheng Fanghui 21-12, 21-17. Their upset win serves as a timely reminder that they are more than capable of derailing Tang Jie-Ee Wei's campaign in Tokyo. Tang Jie and Ee Wei, however, can take heart from their previous meeting with the Indonesians, which saw the Malaysians emerge victorious in the second round of the Indonesian Masters in January. However, Jafar-Felisha have a win over Tang Jie under their belt in the Taiwan Open semi-finals, although he was then paired up with junior shuttler Chan Wen Tse. Thinaah made a confident start at the Japan Open by beating reigning European champions Gabriela Stoeva-Stefani Stoeva to reach the second round in Tokyo on Wednesday. Fresh off signing a new contract to remain with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), the world No. 3 needed just 31 minutes to dispatch the world No. 16 Bulgarian sisters 21-16, 21-14 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. Pearly-Thinaah inked a lucrative deal last week that will keep them under BAM's banner through to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
