JSSAHER gets into space medicine research
Dr. Gowthamarajan underwent advanced hands-on training at the world-renowned Institute of Biomedical Problems (IBMP-RAS), Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow—an institution at the forefront of global space physiology research.
The visit was facilitated through the DHR-ICMR Overseas Fellowship Scheme, generously supported by the Union government.
The training, under the guidance of Vassilieva Galina Yu, focused on key domains such as dry immersion, head-down tilt (HDT), vestibular adaptation, and Mars Mission simulations. The visit also included a tour of ROSCOSMOS, delivery of invited academic lectures, and strategic discussions aimed at formalising a future MoU between IBMP-RAS and JSSAHER, said a press release.
'This initiative is part of JSSAHER's larger research vision to explore the pharmaceutical behaviour of drugs in microgravity, thereby contributing meaningfully to India's Space Science Mission and Innovation Agenda,' the release added.
Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswami, Chancellor of JSSAHER, said, 'True education and research must rise beyond boundaries—towards new realms of knowledge that benefit all humanity. Space medicine is one such frontier where our ancient wisdom and modern science converge. I am pleased to support this endeavour which places JSSAHER at the helm of transformative science.'

Virtual dissection table installed at JSS Medical College
The Department of Anatomy at JSS Medical College, JSS AHER, Mysuru, has installed the Anatomage Table 11, a state-of-the-art virtual dissection table procured from a U.S.-based company, marking a major leap in medical education technology. The inauguration was held on Tuesday. Shivarathri Deshikendra Swami of Suttur Math and Girish Kapur, senior vice-president, India Site Operations, USP Hyderabad, were the chief guests. 'The Anatomage Table Version 11 is the most advanced 3D anatomy platform available today, offering life-size, high-resolution visualisations of the human body. It enables students and healthcare professionals to study complex anatomical structures with unmatched precision, bridging traditional cadaveric dissection and modern digital methodologies,' according to a press release. Graduation reception of JSS College of Pharmacy held
The third Graduates Reception of JSS College of Pharmacy was held in the city on Tuesday, and 267 graduates received their graduation certificates for the year 2024-25. This includes 104 BPharm candidates, 35 Pharm D candidates, 98 MPharm candidates, and 30 D Pharm candidates. R. Sudheendra Bhat, Controller of Examination, JSS AHER, administered the 'Pharmacists Oath' for all the graduates. Girish Kapur, senior vice-president, India Site Operations & Site Head of United States Pharmacopeia (USP) India, Hyderabad, told the graduating students that India's contribution to the field of pharmacy was significant and was exporting drugs to many countries. He urged them to continuously update their knowledge. The graduates were impressed upon maintaining pharma quality and standards and underlined the role played by pharmacy graduates in adhering to quality.
