Son of Sardaar 2 caught in crossfire as Saiyaara, Mahavatar Narishimha rule screens
While 'Dhadak 2' is expected to have a limited rollout, 'Son of Sardaar 2' was banking on a wide release to recover costs. "'Dhadak 2', I can understand, is a compact release. It's not going wide. But 'Son of Sardaar 2' is a very big film, and it needs that kind of screen count and showcase to recover its cost. Let's see what happens—the talks are still on," Adarsh added.According to Rathi, accommodating all three films might be tricky, but not impossible. He further said, "If advance bookings show greater interest in 'Saiyaara' or 'Dhadak 2', naturally, those films will get more shows. The same applies to 'Son of Sardaar 2'. But yes, given the timing and the fact that 'Saiyaara' will be in its third week, I'm not sure if there's space for all three films — but certainly for two."Despite ongoing negotiations, the battle for screens remains intense. "It's going to be a very divided scenario. You can't really pinpoint a number—30%, 40%, it's hard to say—because a lot of distributors are involved at the same time. The marketplace is very crowded. The good thing is that 'Saiyaara' and 'Mahavatar Narishimha' are both doing excellent business. So, it's going to be a tough fight to get screens and shows. Not just in Bombay or the urban centres, but even in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. It'll be a tough call, especially for single screens," Adarsh explained.Rathi, however, points out that Saiyaara and Son of Sardaar 2 may not be directly competing. The exhibitor said, "The good thing is 'Saiyaara' and 'Son of Sardaar 2' cater to very different audiences. 'Saiyaara' is popular among the 14–23 age group, while 'Son of Sardaar 2' appeals more to viewers in their late 20s to early 40s. So they're not really competing for the same crowd."advertisementAdding to the surprise is the promotional strategy being adopted. A discount scheme offering Rs. 200 off has raised industry eyebrows. "Honestly, I don't know if that really helps. For a big film, I don't understand what the strategy is to woo the audience. I can understand this kind of offer for 'Saiyaara' or 'Dhadak 2', if at all it's happening. But for a film like 'Son of Sardaar 2', which is a big, big film, with big money involved—to give 50% off up to Rs. 200 off on Friday—it raises eyebrows," Adarsh remarked.Rathi disagrees with the notion that such offers dilute a film's value. "These are standard marketing tools to generate demand. Higher demand leads to more shows and screens. It's not unusual, and even the biggest films have used these tactics. The goal is to get people into theatres — whichever way works," he went on."'Saiyaara', for instance, had discounted tickets and a buy-one-get-one offer on opening day, and it's gone on to become a massive hit," Rathi added.advertisementMeanwhile, 'Saiyaara' shows no signs of slowing down. Adarsh said, "The day-wise numbers have also been huge. And if you see the trend over the weekend, I'm sure this weekend, despite two prominent releases, it's going to be a huge weekend for 'Saiyaara' again."Rathi agreed and further said, "The craze of 'Saiyaara' isn't slowing down anytime soon. We're all hoping the momentum continues, with films like 'Son of Sardaar 2' and 'Dhadak 2' pushing it forward. Fingers crossed!"As for the film's potential lifetime numbers, Adarsh estimated, "It can go anywhere between Rs 375 crore– Rs 400 crore, depending on how the two new releases perform at the box office. But at the moment, it's a tough fight between all the films."However, for upcoming big-ticket films Rathi remains confident. he said, "As for War 2 and Coolie, I don't think any of this will affect them. August 15 is still some time away. Before that, we have Kingdom and a few others. I think we'll be just fine."'Son of Sardaar 2' and 'Dhadak 2' are scheduled for a theatrical release on August 1, 2025.- Ends

'Son of Sardaar 2' Box Office collection day 1: Ajay Devgn-Mrunal Thakur's film mints Rs 6.75 crore; beats Triptii Dimri-Siddhant Chaturvedi's 'Dhadak 2' on opening day
Ajay Devgn 's much-awaited comedy-drama 'Son of Sardaar 2' finally hit cinemas on 1 August 2025 after facing several delays. A sequel to the 2012 hit 'Son of Sardaar', this instalment sees Devgn reprise his role as Jassi Randhawa in a new, love-fuelled adventure. Despite the star's strong fan following and a wide release across the country, the film had a modest start at the box office. Son Of Sardaar 2 Movie Review Modest start but fails to be 'Raid 2' According to early estimates by Sacnilk, 'Son of Sardaar 2' collected approximately Rs 6.75 crore on its first day. While the numbers aren't bad, they're not record-breaking either, especially when compared to Ajay Devgn's earlier 2025 release, 'Raid 2', which made a much stronger Rs 19.25 crore on its opening day. Occupancy on day 1 The occupancy rate for shows across India on the opening Friday was 22.56%, with night shows witnessing the highest turnout at 40.27%. Morning shows recorded just 10.24%, while the afternoon and evening shows managed 17.88% and 21.84%, respectively. 'Son of Sardaar 2' vs ' Dhadak 2 ' The film faced strong competition on its opening day from another big release—Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi 's 'Dhadak 2'. While the romantic drama collected Rs 3.35 crore on Day 1, Ajay Devgn's comedy came out on top with Rs 6.75 crore. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They Were So Beautiful Before; Now Look At Them; Number 10 Will Shock You Reportingly Undo 'Son of Sardaar 2' cast In 'Son of Sardaar 2', Ajay Devgn is joined by Mrunal Thakur , who plays Rabia. This marks her first film with Ajay, and fans are already enjoying their on-screen chemistry. The film boasts a large ensemble cast that adds layers of humour and drama to the story. Ravi Kishan plays Raja, Neeru Bajwa appears as Dimple, Deepak Dobriyal takes on the role of Gul, Kubbra Sait features as Mehwish, and Chunky Panday portrays Danish. The supporting cast includes Sharat Saxena, Mukul Dev, Vindu Dara Singh, Roshni Walia , Sanjay Mishra, Ashwini Kalsekar, Sahil Mehta, and Dolly Ahluwalia , who plays Jassi's mother. 'Son of Sardaar 2' movie review 'Son of Sardaar 2' received 3 stars from The Times of India. The review describes the film as a slapstick comedy with a thin plot, but filled with hilarious moments, especially in the first half, 'The slapstick comedy written by Jagdeep Singh Sidhu and Mohit Jain is a standalone sequel to 2012's Son of Sardaar. The storyline maybe thin, but Jassi juggling the dual act of being a war hero and Rabia's husband doubles the chaos. India-Pakistan rivalry jokes and one-liners will keep you in splits, along with Tony and Titu trying to expose Jassi. The first half has some entertaining moments; one of them being Raja, Tony, and Titu visiting the family to finalise the wedding, where Jassi recreates the scene from Border and plays all three parts originally portrayed by Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, and Jackie Shroff.' The review also points out that the second half becomes crowded with too many characters and comic tracks, 'However, as the story progresses, the plot becomes tangled and overstuffed with characters and comic tracks, though it does manages to deliver hilarity regularly. Some of the comedy misses the mark, like Jassi watching Raja's aged Russian stepmom pole dance. Routine song-and-dance sequences further drag on without advancing the plot. The climax is convoluted, predictable, and over‑dramatised.'

A lot of the credit goes to our director, who from day one was very sure of what she wanted and how she wanted to tell the story, how the characters should be, and she didn't want to over-dramatise anything or oversimplify anything. She just wanted things to be as they are in reality.' About 'Dhadak 2' The movie is a remake of the Tamil film 'Pariyerum Perumal'and a spiritual sequel to the 2018 Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor-starrer Dhadak. Another strong box office competitor is 'Mahavtar Narsimha', which has been performing well in recent days. As more options enter the theatres, it remains to be seen how 'Saiyaara' will hold its ground. Can it reach Rs 300 crore?
