Mayasabha, a Telugu political web series starring Aadhi Pinisetty and Chaitanya Rao, streams on SonyLIV from August 7. Here's all you need to know.
The stage is set for a powerful new political saga as Mayasabha, a Telugu-language web series headlined by Aadhi Pinisetty and Chaitanya Rao, gears up for its OTT debut on SonyLIV. The show will begin streaming from August 7, 2025, and is already generating buzz for its intense premise, compelling cast, and bold political parallels.
Set in the politically charged landscape of Andhra Pradesh in the 1990s, Mayasabha traces the rise and fallout of two dynamic political figures—Kakarla Krishnama Naidu and MS Rami Reddy—whose friendship gives way to a fierce rivalry that ultimately defines the political direction of the state. The teaser, unveiled by SonyLIV, sets the tone for a gripping tale of power, ideology, and ambition. 'A Story of Two Great Friends, Turned into Political Rivals, that became Story of the State," read the post that announced the show's release date.
Speculation is rife that the series draws inspiration from the real-life political rivalry between former Andhra Pradesh Chief Ministers N. Chandrababu Naidu and the late Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy. Although the makers haven't officially confirmed this, the storyline and character dynamics strongly reflect their political trajectories. Reports also hinted at Naga Chaitanya being part of the project at one point, though the final cast features Aadhi Pinisetty and Chaitanya Rao in the leads.
Mayasabha boasts a robust ensemble cast that includes Divya Dutta, Sai Kumar, Srikanth Iyengar, Nassar, Tanya Ravichandran, Ravindra Vijay, and Shatru, among others. The show is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Deva Katta, who makes his OTT debut with this series. Known for films like Prasthanam and Autonagar Surya, Katta brings his signature storytelling flair to the small screen, promising a gripping political thriller layered with emotion and realism.
For Aadhi Pinisetty, this marks an important turn in his career after the critical success of Sabdham. He is also set to appear as the antagonist in the upcoming Akhanda 2 alongside Nandamuri Balakrishna.
With its sharp political commentary and human drama, Mayasabha is expected to be a standout addition to the growing library of regional content on OTT platforms.

Free Bus Rides For Delhi Women, But Only If You Have This New Smart Card

The AAP-era pink ticket is on its way out as the Delhi government rolls out a smart card system to ensure free bus rides only for city residents. The Delhi government is all set to replace the popular 'pink ticket' system with smart cards called Saheli Cards. Starting from August 15, only women and transgender persons with Delhi residence proof will be eligible for free rides in public buses, as per The Indian Express. This move comes under the new BJP-led administration, which wants to ensure that only local residents benefit from welfare schemes. What Was the Pink Ticket Scheme? Introduced in 2019 by the AAP government, the pink ticket scheme allowed any woman to travel for free in DTC and cluster buses without showing any ID or proof. Now, with Saheli Cards, the government plans to tighten the process and reduce misuse. What Are Saheli Cards? There will be two types of smart cards: Non-KYC Smart Cards: Easy to get with just a valid Delhi residence proof. These will work in both buses and the Metro, but free travel applies only to buses. KYC Smart Cards: These will have your name and photo, and can be topped up like a debit card. Issued by banks, they offer contactless travel and are National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) compliant. Why This Change? CM Rekha Gupta said in her Budget speech that welfare schemes should only help Delhi residents. She accused the previous government of 'votebank politics" and said their approach led to misuse of subsidies. The new smart card system aims to reduce misuse while keeping the process smooth and digital. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
