The best raincoats to wear in this unpredictable weather, from £36

If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission - learn more From sunshine and soaring temperatures one day to non-stop rain the next, to say the weather has been unpredictable these last couple of days is an understatement. While the weather apps on our phones are currently suggesting a heatwave for the end of the week, we can't ignore the fact that we live in Britain where, sadly, rain showers are inevitable. On those days the skies open up, umbrellas (although we all know what happens to them when it's too windy) and waterproofs are our only defence, so it's worth investing in a decent raincoat. I know that doesn't sound like the most exciting way to spend your hard earned money – most of us associate waterproofs with a hiking trip to the Lake District – but I promise it doesn't have to be. A good jacket is the foundation of every outfit, so keep that in mind when you're shopping for a raincoat. You won't reach for it (even when it's lashing down) unless it fits your style and goes with the other pieces in your wardrobe, so stick with what you know. Would you describe your style as sporty chic? Check out the longline parkas at H&M, Simply Be and Next. With oversized pockets and hoods, their waterproofs are definitely more casual than a classic trench coat. Alternatively, Sweaty Betty, Arket and & Other Stories have smarter, in-between options, though they do come with a higher price tag. If long coats aren't your thing, and you're looking for a style that hits your hip or upper thigh, then browse the collections at M&S, Barbour and Uniqlo. Amazon's 'perfect' £15 garden lights are 'great for summer evenings'

The Amazon garden lights are perfect anyone wanting to elevate their outdoor space - and they're on sale for Prime Day Amazon customers are loving a set of "perfect" garden lights, hailed as "great for summer evenings." The lights have been reduced as part of Amazon's huge Prime Day sale, which ends tonight (July 11). The JEKEMORYE Garden Mains Powered String Festoon Lights have been slashed in price from £18.99 down to £14.98. The lights are made with durable plastic on the outside, as well as an IP44 waterproof light chain which can be safely used in all weather. Alternatively, Next sells the Black 40 Warm White LED Outdoor Festoon Line Lights 9.8M priced at £28, while B&Q stocks the Noma Festoon Lights Mains-powered (plug-in and wired) Warm white 10 LED Outdoor String lights for £18. Dunelm also provides options such as the Elements 5m 20 LED Festoon Outdoor String Lights for £12. Online, the string lights boast a 4.5-star rating, from many glowing reviews. A happy customer said: " Perfect for any outdoor space. The waterproof feature ensures they'll last through all weather conditions, making them ideal for year-round use. "Whether for parties, a wedding, or just casual evenings, these lights really transform the space into something special. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to elevate their outdoor setting!" Another keen shopper wrote: "Lovely bright lights that look very pretty. I really like these garden lights, each one has a little clip at its base so they are easy to hang. The lights themselves are very pretty - really bright. "I have hung them in a wisteria, they are perfect for this as they are lightweight. I have also clipped them onto another set which I already had, you simply push the end of both sets of lights together and twist the cover to close." However, some shoppers were less impressed, with a few disappointed that the lights require mains power. One reviewer noted: "Unusually - or, back to basics - these are mains-powered, 240V festoons. As a result, they are noticeably brighter than the 24V versions that are becoming popular. "G40 bulbs offer a nice warm glow that is easy on the eyes. Sadly though, these are not dimmable - hence the docking of a star. You also need to ensure you use 240V strings to extend the length, 24V strings will not work (I tried)." Another customer commended the value and quality of the outdoor lights but added: "The only negative is I'd have like a remote control so don't have to keep switching them off." Despite this, many continued to praise the lights. One shopper said: "The section of the lead which has the plug on it can simply be taken off in the same way that the lights join together, it's great as you only need to use one plug socket. I am v ery happy with these lights and wouldn't hesitate to recommend, they will be great for summer evenings and bbq's." Another reviewer wrote: "Great quality lights, perfect for outdoor spaces. I wanted some decent outdoor lights to brighten up the garden, and these have been a great choice. "The 10-metre length is just right for adding a warm, cosy glow to a patio or gazebo without looking too over-the-top. The bulbs give off a nice soft light-not too harsh but enough to create a lovely atmosphere in the evening. "Overall, they're fantastic festoon lights-great quality, easy to install, and ideal for making any outdoor space feel more inviting. Well worth it if you want something reliable and stylish!"
