Danny Devito gives rare update on close friend Jack Nicholson's welfare

Metroa day ago
Danny DeVito has shared details of his friend Jack Nicholson's recent welfare as the 88-year-old has rarely been seen in public over the last decade.
Once known for his frequent appearances courtside at Laker's games, Nicholson is now rarely seen out and about, with the recent exception of his cameo during the live broadcast of SNL50: The Anniversary Special in February.
DeVito, 80, has been close friends with Nicholson since the pair first worked together on One Flew Over the Cuckoo Nest 50 years ago.
'I just saw Jack a couple weeks ago — it was his birthday a month ago, and he's great,' DeVito told People Magazine in a recent interview.
Nicholson and the Always Sunny in Philadelphia star bonded on the set of the iconic film, with DeVito going on to star in the Nicholson-directed 1978 comedy Goin' South three years later.
They also both appeared in James L. Brooks' seriocomic, 1983 Best Picture winner Terms of Endearment, the 1992 biopic Hoffa directed by DeVito, and the 1996 Tim Burton comedy Mars Attacks!.
'We were in the presence of this guy who's really at his moment,' DeVito says, reflecting on meeting Nicholson during production of the now-classic 1975 drama.
By then, Nicholson had already built a formidable résumé with Easy Rider, Carnal Knowledge, The Last Detail, and Chinatown. Cuckoo's Nest would cement his status, earning him his first Academy Award for Best Actor and launching a career that would tally 12 nominations and three wins.
Despite that, DeVito says Nicholson remained deeply grounded.
'He started out exactly the way everybody else did, where he couldn't get a job,' DeVito recalls.
'It was like he came to Hollywood and he was going to just write and direct, and then Easy Rider comes along after the Corman stuff… So he was in our milieu, and he was always just as open and genuine, and we all felt it immediately.'
Nicholson was last seen on Saturday Night Live's 50th birthday special, with the show pulling stars that included Steve Martin and Sir Paul McCartney as well as Nicholson.
The 87-year-old has rarely been seen in public in the 15 years since his last film, How Do You Know, released in 2010.

Fifty Cent trolls Diddy with AI-generated baby oil video

50 Cent has hit out at his old rival Sean 'Diddy' Combs with an AI-generated video referencing Combs' recent legal troubles. Those keeping up to date with showbiz feuds will be aware that 'Fiddy', real name Curtis James Jackson III, doesn't have a lot of time for Combs, who's recently been on trial for several sex-related felonies. Yet despite Combs being acquitted of the most serious charges against him (sex trafficking and racketeering), that hasn't stopped the In Da Club singer from trolling the disgraced music mogul. In a recent Instagram post, the 50-year-old shared an AI-generated video of Combs walking down a catwalk while wearing a 'baby oil costume'. The video is set to the Jody2Good's song Baby Oil Freak Off Party, a track about the allegations against the I'll Be Missing You singer that was released last year after his arrest. Fifty captioned the video, 'I didn't know Diddy walked in the Michael Amiri show, when did he make Bond!' The post is a clear reference to the more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant that law enforcement seized from Combs' homes in Miami and Los Angeles. While the majority of those commenting on Fiddy's video seem to find the post funny, there are several who've taken issue with it. 'Don't you have anything better to do?? What an example for your sons,' wrote grentzcolleen. Meanwhile, misssunshine_c3 added, 'Now we believe Diddy is living rent free in your big head'. This is hardly the first time Fiddy's taken aim at Combs and those associated with him. Last month, he lashed out at Bianca Censori, Kanye West's wife, following West's appearance at Combs' trial. On Instagram, the rapper slammed both West and Censori, referencing her headline-making see-through outfit from the Grammy Awards earlier this year. 'We are wearing white in honour of the freak offs,' he wrote. 'Damn Ye, you should have brought your dirty little wife with that Grammys outfit! @50centaction.' More Trending Combs is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Centre (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York, while he awaits sentencing in October. On July 2, a jury convicted the 55-year-old on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution of his ex-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, and another woman known as Jane. He was found not guilty of racketeering conspiracy, nor was he found guilty of two charges of sex trafficking in relation to Cassie and Jane. Combs has pleaded not guilty and denied all allegations against him. Got a story? Tennis star crowned 'sexiest alive' who suffered Wimbledon heartbreak now unrecognisable

Tennis star crowned 'sexiest alive' who suffered Wimbledon heartbreak now unrecognisable Pat Rafter was one of the biggest stars of the tennis circuit in the 1990s, winning two Grand Slam titles and reaching the final of Wimbledon twice - plus earning a unique title Pat Rafter found love with model Lara Feltham after becoming tennis' resident heartthrob (Image: Getty Images ) Pat Rafter has long abandoned the ponytail style that helped earn him the title of 'Sexiest Athlete Alive' almost three decades ago. The Australian emerged on the tennis circuit during the 1990s. He secured his place in the sport's record books with a landmark season in '97, capturing his first Grand Slam title at that year's US Open. ‌ Beyond the court, he became quite the heartthrob. His flowing hair, which he would tie back during matches, combined with his stubbled jaw and toned physique, was sufficient to earn him recognition from People magazine as the planet's most attractive sporting figure that same year. ‌ Like the rest of us, Rafter, who reached the Wimbledon final twice, hasn't escaped the effects of time. Though now 52, he continues to cut a dapper figure. His public outings have been sparse in recent years. He has occasionally worked as a pundit in his home country, while also taking on administrative roles with governing body Tennis Australia. However, he appeared at the Brisbane International tournament in December, participating in an exhibition match at the arena bearing his name. After removing his cap following play, he was spotted with a swept-back hairstyle whilst signing autographs for spectators, his hair no longer reaching his shoulders as it once did. Article continues below Rafter achieved iconic status by breaking his country's drought for a major title, successfully defending his US Open championship in 1998. "I was at a time where there weren't a lot of players around," he reflected in 2017. Rafter no longer has his ponytail aged 52 (Image: Getty Images ) "I came on the scene, I won a couple of Slams and then I was revered a little bit more than if I had won that back in the 70s. You would have just gone, 'There's another good tennis player from Australia.' Maybe the personality of the media made me into something bigger than what I actually was. That's OK." ‌ He narrowly missed out on victory at SW19, taking the lead against Pete Sampras in the men's final of 2000 before, by his own admission, "choking" after losing the second set tie-break. Sampras went on to win three sets to one. The Aussie icon was twice a Wimbledon runner-up (Image: Getty Images ) A year later, he once again made the final, this time facing Goran Ivanisevic. The Croatian triumphed in a five-set nail-biter, leaving Rafter once again as the runner-up. Article continues below After hanging up his racket in 2003, he settled down with former model Lara Feltham, tying the knot the following year. The couple have two children, Joshua and India, who are now grown up. These days, they can chuckle at how their father, who dated a string of Dutch models before finding love with their mother, was once so in demand. He famously joked: "You know what, it is exhausting being this good-looking."
