Dees aim to turn tables on North in Goodwin's milestone
Now the Demons' premiership-winning mentor is out to do it all over again.
"This is the time in your transition and part of your process that you love the most," Goodwin said ahead of his 200th game as coach, against North Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.
"(It's) when you're trying to build something unique and something special.
"That's what I love about coaching - the challenge of building something pretty special."
Goodwin, who coached Essendon for one game in 2013, led Melbourne to their drought-breaking 2021 flag and boasts a 54.8 per cent winning record.
But the Demons will miss finals for a second straight season this year and are on a five-match losing streak ahead of the North Melbourne encounter.
They would slip into the bottom four with another loss to the Kangaroos, who embarrassed them in a 59-point hiding in round two.
"Clearly they're a much-improved team over the whole season," Goodwin said.
"They're putting themselves in winning positions and they've got a lot of depth and talent.
"We're under no illusions about the type of team we're coming up against.
"They played outstanding footy against us earlier in the season and we learnt a lot."
Goodwin dismissed fitness concerns over sore stars Max Gawn and Jake Lever, while Caleb Windsor replaces Harry Sharp (omitted).
North have lost spearhead Nick Larkey and Luke Davies-Uniacke to injuries and Zane Duursma has been dropped.
But coach Alastair Clarkson will welcome back Luke Parker, Jack Darling and Charlie Comben.
Goodwin's milestone game comes as Melbourne mourn the loss of club great Brian Dixon, a five-time premiership player and former Victorian politician, who died aged 89 on Wednesday.

"It's a very sad time and our condolences go out to the Dixon family," Goodwin said.
"He's such an enormous figure at the Melbourne footy club ... there's no doubt as a playing group we'll certainly honour the Dixon family as best we can on the weekend."

Knicks reserve guard could see increased role next season
New York Knicks guard Miles McBride could be the biggest beneficiary of Mike Brown being hired as the team's new head coach. Per SNY's Ian Begley, McBride could see an increased role compared to his role under Tom Thibodeau. 'We don't know how Knicks coach Mike Brown will deploy his rotation. He's done great things,' McBride said, per Begley. 'Obviously, he can fill up the stat sheet and really score the ball at a high level. And obviously adding Geurschon as well. I think everybody's seen what he did in the Olympics and carrying that momentum into (last season), so we're really excited about him.' 'I feel like we're going to play fast, we're going to be using a lot of different guys,' he added. 'If you saw the Finals, they (Oklahoma City and Indiana) had a lot of depth on both teams, and I feel like we're all NBA guys. So if you're on the team, I feel like you're able to help out.' McBride averaged a career-best 9.5 points per game last season off the bench, and shot 37 percent from three-point range. Next year could be a breakout season for him should he get an increased role.

Broncos legend rejects claim about Reece Walsh in pointed swipe at two teammates
Corey Parker has rejected suggestions Reece Walsh was solely to blame for the Broncos' loss to Parramatta on Friday night, saying the club's veteran leaders should bear the brunt of the backlash. Brisbane were expected to trounce the lowly Eels at Suncorp Stadium, but instead came away with a 22-20 loss. Walsh made a number of costly errors at the back, most notably when he failed to catch a bomb on the full which led to a Parramatta try. He was then found to be marginally off-side on what would have been the winning for the Broncos at the death. The young fullback has copped plenty of criticism for his performance, but according to Parker it's his veteran teammates who should take more responsibility. Parker pinpointed halfback Adam Reynolds and hooker Ben Hunt as two leaders of the club who didn't stand up on Friday night, and didn't pull Walsh into line when he went a bit erratic. "There are moments in any sport when you need leadership," the Broncos legend said on SEN radio on Monday. "There comes a time when your most experienced players and your leaders have to stand up and make some bold calls, and they have to stay on task. "The Broncos have got Adam Reynolds at 35 years of age and over 300 games of experience. He's the No.7. He's what you would think is the leader of the football side. He's the captain, and he plays a real pivotal position. "Then you've got Ben Hunt at No.9 with just shy of 350 games. So between those two individuals you've got a collective 651 games between them. We hear so often when the Broncos win or don't win, it's either Reece Walsh has had an ordinary game or Reece Walsh has had a great game. [But] experience in big games and pivotal moments is paramount." Parker pointed out some of the leaders at other clubs who make sure their teammates are held accountable. Parker mentioned Stephen Crichton at the Bulldogs, Tom Dearden at the Cowboys and Harry Grant at the Storm, who stepped up and led his side past the Roosters with Ryan Papenhuyzen, Cameron Munster and Jahrome Hughes out. He added: "You look at the team atop the competition - the Canberra Raiders - wonderful leaders in their football side that don't deviate. Jamal Fogarty has plenty of youth in his team - Xavier Savage and Kaeo Weekes - but he does not deviate from what is required. Kicks to the corners really well and steers his team around the park when they start to get a little shaky. "I want to see the leaders of the Broncos really stand up over the next four or five weeks, and if they can do that, what flows off the back of it will certainly be warranted. You need talent and your best players on the field, but some of the leadership we've seen so far this year has been exceptional (at the top clubs)." Did the bye halt the Broncos' momentum? Parker said the Broncos may have suffered from having the bye in Round 20, which halted their momentum and eventually saw a six-game losing streak snapped. Coach Michael Maguire made a conscious decision to give his players a five-day break, but it might have cost them. The Broncos were leap-frogged by the Panthers and fell to sixth place with the loss - four points behind the Warriors in fourth. AFL world sends flood of messages over news about Collingwood hero and partner
Jordan De Goey has endured a frustrating year with injuries, but the Collingwood premiership player has double the cause for celebration after some good news - on and off the field. De Goey and partner Aisha Jade McKinnon took to social media over the weekend to share the lovely news that they're expecting a baby girl. McKinnon posted a photo of her bump and video of the ultrasound, while also sharing footage of the lovely moment they found out she's expecting.
