Possible Dallas Mavericks' Trade Target Taken Off the Market
Possible Dallas Mavericks' Trade Target Taken Off the Market originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Dallas Mavericks are expected to have a busy offseason. In addition to extending center Daniel Gafford for a three-year contract, the Mavericks are going to draft Cooper Flagg with the first overall pick.

With a well-rounded core of Flagg, Gafford, PJ Washington, Anthony Davis, and Klay Thompson, the Mavericks are expected to hit the ground running next season, although Kyrie Irving, who is still recovering from a torn ACL, might not be able to return at all next season.
That leaves a glaring hole at point guard. With scorers like Davis, Washington, and Thompson on the team, the Mavs don't need a 20-point-per-game floor general, and free agents like Chris Paul, Tre Jones, and Dennis Schroder should be able to fill the gaps.
Of course, Dallas could trade for a point guard, and as the Boston Celtics looked to cut salary, Jrue Holiday was the most realistic target. A high-level shooter and defender, Holiday fits Davis and Thompson's timelines while leaning into Nico Harrison's "defense wins championships" mantra. He is also a proven winner.
However, the Portland Trail Blazers struck first, sending Anfernee Simons and two second-round picks to Boston for Holiday, who is expected to raise the team's floor while providing mentorship to Scoot Henderson, who remains a project.

Perhaps Portland will try to flip Holiday at or before the trade deadline, although by then, the Mavericks will have likely already found a temporary Irving replacement, making them uninterested in adding the two-time champion.
Of course, in order to land Holiday in the first place, Dallas would have to give up a key player, which they would likely have been reluctant to do, anyway.

The younger Guerrero also set a record for the most homers in a single round with 40 against Joc Pederson in the 2019. The 2023 NL MVP, who went down with an ACL injury last season, will try to become the first-ever Braves player to win the competition. Seattle Mariners catcher and current MLB home run leader Cal Raleigh will also participate.
