Ibrahim Albassam: From school champion to Saudi eLeague competitor

RIYADH: Few achieve their dreams by the age of 16. Yet, fresh from high school, Ibrahim Albassam has already achieved a key life goal, leveling up to go from a gaming fan to an electronic sports professional, joining Twisted Minds as a pro player. While millions around the globe battle it out daily in 'EA Sports FC 25,' only the best of the best get to cross the white line and go for glory as a professional player. As in real football, goals win games in 'EA Sports FC 25,' and Albassam knows how to hit the back of the net, but progressing to a pro was a steep learning curve as he balanced his studies with his newfound career. 'Balancing my life as a student and with competitive e-sports was a critical part of my early journey,' he explained. 'I always made it a priority to stay focused on my studies and exams, while also dedicating time daily for practise and improvement. That discipline helped shape my mindset as a player, learning how to manage pressure, stay consistent, and remain committed to both education and gaming. 'I truly believe that when you're passionate about something, you'll always find the time to pursue it and succeed. During that time, I practiced consistently for one to two hours each day to stay sharp and improve my performance.' Albassam began his e-sports journey through the School eLeague. His talent quickly stood out leading him to represent the Eastern Province in the 'EA Sports FC 25' tournament, where he delivered strong performances. After winning first place in the School eLeague Championship, he was signed by Twisted Minds, one of the Kingdom's leading e-sports organizations. 'The School eLeague was my first step into the professional scene and served as the gateway for me to join one of the top teams in Saudi Arabia, Twisted Minds and represent them in the Saudi eLeague 'EA FC 25' tournament,' explains Albassam. 'The biggest difference I noticed was the level of intensity and seriousness. In the Saudi eLeague, you're facing top-tier players from every club, each with their own achievements and experience. 'It's a much more competitive environment, which forces you to grow, learn, and elevate your game quickly. On top of that, representing a team like Twisted Minds adds even more motivation to perform, win, and continue developing as a professional.' Albassam's success is one of many examples of the Saudi Esports Federation's success in investing in grassroots development, creating pathways for talent to progress, compete at the highest level and represent Saudi Arabia in the global e-sports scene. The Schools eLeague, organized by the Saudi Esports Federation in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, has become a hotbed for talent and a platform for aspiring players to learn, develop and showcase their abilities with opportunities to take the leap into careers in e-sports. Albassam is grateful for the opportunities available to young players in the Kingdom and for the support of his family who were initially unsure about his ambitions but were quickly convinced that e-sports is a significant focus area for Saudi Arabia, with young players like him at the forefront of its progression. 'At first, my family had some concerns about me pursuing a professional career in gaming, which is understandable, as they hadn't seen or experienced the opportunities in esports the way our generation has,' Albassam explained. 'Over time, they began to recognize the potential of this industry and how a passion for gaming can evolve into a legitimate and promising career path, especially with the level of support e-sports is receiving here in the Kingdom. 'As always, they stood by me. Like with any emerging field, initial doubt is natural, but once it becomes real, it becomes normal.' For the latest updates, follow us @ArabNewsSport

It read: 'The new identity for #95th_National_Day is now launched under the slogan #Pride_In_Our_Nature. It celebrates how Saudis are known for their generosity, authenticity, ambition, kindness, and a willingness to stand by one another in moments of need. The National Day's visual identity comprises six main illustrations, each representing a distinct national trait. These core values are visually translated into symbols inspired by Saudi culture and history. There is generosity, which is symbolized by the dallah (traditional coffee pot) and finjan (coffee cup), representing Saudi hospitality. The country's authenticity is emphasized by the cultural depth and heritage embedded in the Saudi way of life. Ambition, represented by Tuwaiq Mountain, symbolizes resilience and a high-reaching national spirit, inspired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's famous quote comparing Saudi ambition to the steadfastness of the iconic mountain. Faz'ah (solidarity and aid), depicted through crossed hands and inspired by a well-known gesture by the crown prince, symbolizes readiness, unity and mutual support. Vision 2030, incorporated as a future-focused trait, showcases Saudi Arabia's strategic road map for development and transformation. Hospitality highlights the Kingdom's commitment to philanthropy and supporting others. Each illustration is paired with a unique color identity, and supported by three secondary pattern designs, creating a visually rich and cohesive image that mirrors the diversity and unity of the Saudi people. The official logo features geometric typography fused with patterns inspired by traditional Saudi weaving techniques. The phrase 'Pride in Our Nature' is visually constructed using bold, block-like forms in a modern expression of heritage, unity, and national pride. The logo's integrity is protected. It must not be altered, redrawn, or manipulated in any way. A dedicated typeface has also been developed to complement the identity, available in multiple font weights to ensure clarity and consistency across all official applications. The identity package includes a wide range of ready-to-use assets such as visuals of Saudi leadership, official National Day logos, templates for office and outdoor advertisements, product applications and digital resources for download at To unify online participation, the following hashtag has been approved for public and official use: #SaudiNationalDay95.

Salm Al-Dawsari returns to Al Hilal training after injury layoff

Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Saudi football star Salem Al-Dawsari has returned to full training with Al Hilal after recovering from injury, the Saudi Pro League runners-up announced on Sunday. The Riyadh club posted a photo of their captain on social media platform X with the caption: 'Salem Al-Dawsari took part in group training after completing his rehabilitation program.' The 33-year-old winger had been sidelined for around five weeks due to a hamstring injury sustained during the 2-0 victory over Mexico's Pachuca in the final group-stage match of the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States. Al-Dawsari scored the opener in the 22nd minute of that match and was named Man of the Match before being forced off in the 76th minute. His absence meant missing the remainder of Al Hilal's campaign, which included a historic 4-3 extra-time win over English champions Manchester City in the round of 16, followed by a narrow 2-1 quarter-final exit to Brazil's return comes at an ideal time for the Saudi national team, with just two months remaining before the AFC playoff qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The Green Falcons face Iraq and Indonesia at home on October 8 and 14, respectively, in Group French coach Hervé Renard, Saudi Arabia will be aiming to secure a direct World Cup berth for the seventh time in their history, having finished third in Group C of the third round behind Japan and comeback is a major boost, especially ahead of the crucial clash with Iraq, who are targeting a return to the tournament for the first time since veteran forward has earned 92 caps for Saudi Arabia, scoring 24 goals, including three at the FIFA World Cup: against Egypt in Russia 2018, and against Argentina and Mexico in Qatar 2022.
