Kuwait healthcare system undergoes major expansion with world-class infrastructure
Kuwait boasts a modern and integrated healthcare infrastructure supported by advanced technologies and comprehensive medical services that aim to meet the evolving needs of its population.
The Ministry of Health is currently executing a national health strategy in line with Kuwait's broader development plan, focusing on expanding major hospitals, increasing capacity, upgrading healthcare centres, and introducing state-of-the-art technologies across services to ensure efficiency, quality, and accessibility.
Assistant Undersecretary for Engineering Affairs and Projects, Eng. Ibrahim Al-Nahham stated that several major projects are either underway or recently completed.
One such project is the new Maternity Hospital in the Sabah medical zone, which is built to the highest international standards. The hospital is a comprehensive facility that merges advanced medical technologies with compassionate patient care.
It is designed to address women's health and neonatal care, incorporating environmentally friendly and energy-efficient building standards.
Among the most significant ongoing projects is the new Al-Sabah Hospital, currently under construction in the Sabah medical zone.

The hospital comprises three towers, a parking facility, and an engineering services building, and it will include 512 inpatient beds, 105 intensive care beds, 72 outpatient clinics, and a helipad, with all necessary medical departments integrated within.

It has the capacity for 224 patient beds and includes departments for emergency care, radiology, pharmacy, medical records, and support services.

The facility features fully automated systems, and both towers are equipped with advanced mechanical and electrical infrastructure to support specialised cancer care.
The New Al-Adan Hospital complex is currently being developed within Al-Adan Hospital area and includes seven separate buildings interconnected through underground tunnels.
The complex features a maternity and paediatrics hospital covering 226,369 square metres, with 637 fixed and 471 mobile beds, 14 floors, a basement, and a helipad for emergencies.
The second building, the surgical and central services facility, spans 34,417 square metres and includes 141 mobile beds across two floors. The third is a physical therapy and rehabilitation centre built over 28,525 square metres with a basement and three upper floors.

These projects reflect Kuwait's commitment to implementing the goals of its development vision 2035, particularly in enhancing the healthcare sector.
The Ministry of Health is also working to strengthen international cooperation, attract global expertise, and adopt leading healthcare models to improve the quality of care and ensure the long-term sustainability of the healthcare system.
In line with this vision, the ministry continues to invest in national human resources through training programs, scholarships, and partnerships with local and international academic and health institutions.
These efforts aim to develop a new generation of skilled healthcare professionals equipped to meet future health challenges.

Eritrea: World Hepatitis Day Observed at National Level
World Hepatitis Day was observed at the national level in Asmara yesterday under the theme 'Hepatitis: Let's Break It Down.' Dr. Araya Berhane, Director of Communicable Diseases Control at the Ministry of Health, stated that although hepatitis has various forms, this year's observance focused on infection-related hepatitis, which remains a leading cause of illness and death in the country. Citing a study by the Ministry of Health, Dr. Araya noted that in Eritrea, 30 out of every 1,000 people are carriers of Hepatitis B virus, while 5 out of every 1,000 are carriers of Hepatitis C. He also highlighted that the rate of infection varies across regions, and chronic illnesses are often associated with these two viruses. He further stated that the primary means of controlling Hepatitis B is through vaccination, which has been in place in Eritrea for over 23 years. Since newborns must be vaccinated within 24 hours of birth, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with its partners, plans to expand the vaccination program starting in November 2025. Dr. Mary Stephen, WHO Representative in Eritrea, and Dr. Abdullahi Mohammed Yousuf, UNICEF Representative, commended Eritrea's efforts in controlling and eradicating hepatitis. They emphasized that the observance of the day serves as a reminder to give due attention to hepatitis and to combat it through integrated and timely efforts. Participants held extensive discussions on the current situation of hepatitis and strategies for its control. The event featured a general knowledge competition among secondary schools in the Central Region, with awards presented to the winners. Exotel's Intelligent Communication Platform enhances patient care and efficiency at Medcare hospitals
Dubai, UAE – Exotel, a leading customer engagement platform, has partnered with Medcare—one of the UAE's premier healthcare providers—to successfully implement its automated communication solution. In their continuous quest to drive excellence, managing patient appointments and optimizing staff utilization emerged as key operational priorities. The collaboration has resulted in significant improvements in appointment management, a reduction in patient no-shows, enhanced staff efficiency, and an overall boost to the patient experience. By integrating Exotel's intelligent calling and reminder system, Medcare has seen measurable improvements. Monthly no-show rates dropped from 21% to single digit numbers, freeing up valuable appointment slots and driving operational efficiency. More importantly, frontline healthcare staff—especially nurses—have reclaimed significant time for core medical responsibilities, leading to improved documentation compliance and higher patient and doctor satisfaction. 'This solution has been a game-changer. Nurses no longer spend hours calling patients, which means more time for clinical care. We've seen documentation compliance go from 60% to 90%, and patient NPS scores have improved as our team can now focus fully on patient needs,' said Kowshik Bhattacharjee, Head of Service Excellence and Patient Experience at Medcare Hospitals and Medical Centres. 'The automation also helped us bring down our no-show rate from 20% to just 5%-7%, directly impacting our efficiency and revenues.' Exotel's solution automates appointment reminders using intelligent call routing and multi-touch follow-ups, ensuring patients confirm, cancel, or reschedule their appointments in advance. 'The streamlined appointment system at Medcare with automated reminders via Voice Automation platform has led to better patient turnout and reduced manual work. A real-time analytics dashboard helps track appointments and patient behavior, enabling smarter decisions', added Bhatia. By transforming a previously manual and time-consuming process into an automated, scalable system, Exotel has empowered Medcare to serve patients more effectively while optimizing internal resources.
