AAP opposes proposed fee regulation bill, calls it 'anti-parent'
She pointed out that the BJP government deliberately bypasses democratic processes by planning to introduce the Bill through an ordinance, without any public consultation, stakeholder engagement, or legislative scrutiny, as per the release.
'This Fee Regulation Bill has been kept hidden by the BJP. No parent, lawyer, MLA, or Delhi resident has seen this bill. Why is it being concealed? If this bill is in the interest of parents, then why hasn't it been shown to them? Why hasn't it been uploaded to the website? Why hasn't public feedback been invited?' questioned Atishi.
The AAP Legislative Group has formally demanded that the BJP government convene a Special Session of the Delhi Assembly to introduce the Fee Regulation Bill. Atishi stressed that the Bill must be referred to a Select Committee consisting of members from both AAP and BJP, and that comprehensive public consultations must be held before it is passed, it added.
'There was talk of a Fee Regulation law, but no one has seen the draft till date. Parents spoke in one voice: the fee law must not be brought in through an ordinance. The draft bill should be made public, their opinions must be heard, and only then should the bill be passed,' she said.
Calling out the BJP's opaque tactics, Atishi remarked, 'This may be the first time in Delhi's history that such a significant law or policy is being brought without any public feedback. Hiding the draft of a law like this only shows one thing: something is seriously sketchy with it. This bill isn't meant to reduce school fees or to regulate private schools. It's being brought in to protect private schools.'
As per their release, with Education Minister Ashish Sood confirming that the Bill will not be tabled in the Assembly, Atishi said, 'The BJP Government is going to any lengths to shield Delhi's private schools--now sneaking in the Fee Regulation Bill through an ordinance, bypassing the Assembly. This move is anti-parent and pro-private school.'
Earlier in May, the Delhi Cabinet approved the Delhi School Education Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees Bill, 2025, bringing relief to thousands of students and parents across the capital.
Addressing growing concerns over frequent and unregulated fee increases by private schools, the Delhi Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta cleared the bill, which is expected to apply to 1,677 private schools in the city.
CM Gupta stated that the government has swiftly acted in response to the widespread panic among students and parents regarding the hikes in school fees. (ANI)

Hanumakonda: Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiyam Srihari said on Thursday that the government is implementing welfare schemes that are not found anywhere else in the country. Along with additional collector Rohit Singh, he attended the ration card distribution at the tahsildar's office in Lingala Ghanpur mandal headquarters. They distributed ration cards to beneficiaries. Additionally, cheques for Rs 7,98,250 were distributed to 14 beneficiaries from the CM's Relief Fund in the mandal. Srihari demanded that if the BJP truly cares about the BCs, it should immediately provide legal backing to BC reservations. He accused the BRS of misusing power and pushing the State into deep debt. The MLA stated that the dream of ration cards for the public was realised only under the government. In Jangaon district, 9,700 ration cards were sanctioned, and 14,780 new members were added to the list. In the mandal 688 ration cards were sanctioned. He advised those who haven't yet received cards to apply immediately. He emphasised that only under the Congress are the poor getting justice, and praised the distribution of free fine rice as an unprecedented initiative in the country. Srihari accused the Opposition of criticising the government out of desperation. He remarked that those who are incapable of action often talk too much. He highlighted that the government holds record for waiving Rs 2,000 crore in loans in a single financial year. He announced new pensions would soon be sanctioned. He urged people to observe how those who were in power for the last 10 years are now embroiled in legal cases.

Mobile phone purchases by Ministers spark political row
New Delhi: The recent decision by the Delhi government to raise the spending limit on mobile phones for the Chief Minister and Cabinet Ministers has triggered a political row, with fresh allegations surfacing about exces-sive spending by the previous AAP administration. The General Administration Department has revised its 2013 order, now allowing the Chief Minister to purchase a mobile phone worth up to ₹1.5 lakh and cabinet ministers up to ₹1.25 lakh. However, the government clarified that SIM cards will not be provided and ministers will have to use their personal mobile numbers. The revised guidelines come after the allotment of government bungalows and other facilities to the newly appointed ministers under the BJP government. The opposition has raised concerns over the ris-ing expenses, prompting the administration to release official records of mobile purchases made during the AAP government's tenure. According to the data, former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal bought four government-funded phones between 2015 and 2022. The prices ranged from ₹69,000 to ₹1.63 lakh, with the last purchase being an iPhone 13 Pro Max. Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia reportedly bought five phones during his term, with costs varying from ₹48,999 to ₹1.37 lakh. He too opted for an iPhone 13 Pro Max as his final official handset. Former minister Atishi purchased one phone costing ₹1,27,999, while Gopal Rai bought four phones from different brands, with a total expenditure of nearly ₹2 lakh. Over a 10-year period, ministers in the AAP government spent ₹17,63,482 on official mobile phones. This has drawn criticism from current Education Minister Ashish Sood, who cited the 2013 directive that capped mobile phone costs at ₹50,000 for the Chief Minister and ₹45,000 for ministers. Sood alleged that AAP leaders not only exceeded these limits but also pressured officials to clear the purchases. Official correspondence from the previous government acknowledged that some purchases were 'on the higher side' and even included a request from the Chief Minister's Office seeking a relaxation of the limit. The issue has intensified political sparring in the Capital as the BJP-led administration takes charge. While the new government defends the revision as necessary for modern governance, the opposition is ques-tioning whether public funds are being used judiciously.

Will eliminate corruption hubs of previous govts: CM
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday vowed to eliminate all 'corruption hubs' that were active under the previous governments in the national capital. Her statement came a day after Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena ordered a probe into the alleged cor-ruption in the 'Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana' launched by the previous AAP govern-ment. The scheme, launched in 2018, aimed to provide free coaching to SC, ST, OBC, EWS and minority stu-dents at private coaching institutes for various competitive exams, including the UPSC, SSC, NEET, and CLAT. However, the scheme was discontinued when the new BJP-led government took office in February this year. At an event, when asked about the directions issued to probe the matter, Gupta said, 'If you allocate Rs 15 crore for a scheme and then submit bills worth Rs 150 crore, how can things function? We will elimi-nate the hubs of corruption that existed under previous governments.' She further assured that the public's 'hard-earned money' will not go to waste.
