UFC 317 video: Alexandre Pantoja vs. Kai Kara-France first faceoff
Pantoja (29-5 MMA, 13-3 UFC) will attempt to log his fourth consecutive title defense as flyweight champion when he takes on Kara-France (25-11 MMA, 8-4 UFC) in the co-main event o Saturday's card at T-Mobile Arena (ESPN+ pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+).

Both men have been respectful in the buildup to the fight, which is a rematch of a 2016 exhibition bout on "The Ultimate Fighter" reality series, and was won by Pantoja via unanimous decision.
Nine years later, the pair run it back for the highest stakes in the sport.

UFC BMF champ Max Holloway says injury likely to sideline him for rest of 2025
Max Holloway doesn't expect to see the octagon again this year after spoiling Dustin Poirier's retirement fight at UFC 318 in July. Reigning UFC BMF champion Holloway (27-8 MMA, 23-8 UFC) revealed Friday that a lingering hand injury stemming from his unanimous decision win over Poirier in New Orleans is causing more problems than expected, and it likely will prevent him from fighting again in the next few months. "My right hand still hurts," Holloway said on his YouTube channel. "If you have hopes of me fighting before the end of the year, probably not going to happen." Holloway, 33, said he wouldn't specify the exact nature of the injury at this time. He needs additional testing done on it to determine recovery methods and a timeline, then he can determine where he fits in the red-hot lightweight division based on when he's cleared to compete. "I see a specialist some time this week," Holloway said. "Things are not looking too up of me fighting one more time this year."

Timberwolves sign forward whose only college choice was to walk-on after academic scholarship
The Minnesota Timberwolves have a new two-way player. His name is Enrique Freeman, and he's got one of the most inspirational stories in the NBA. ESPN's Shams Charania reported the signing on Friday morning. Freeman was cut by the Pacers after averaging 16.6 points per game in Summer League. Freeman's journey didn't always look destined for professional basketball. He had no college basketball offers out of high school in the Cleveland area, so he accepted an academic scholarship at the University of Akron and walked-on to the basketball team. Freeman grew four inches before his sophomore year of college and became a star in the MAC. After Akron, Freeman was the 50th overall pick in 2024 and played 22 NBA games as a rookie, averaging 2.1 points in 8.2 minutes per game. And then in Summer League this year, he averaged 16.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.8 blocks per game while shooting 72.5% from the floor and 55.6% from 3. Freeman seems like the kind of late bloomer who can legitimately help a contending team. The Timberwolves won't need him to be a high-usage player, of course. But he can do so many different things on the floor that he should find a way to fit in when called upon in the NBA portion of his two-way contract. And he's worked so hard to get to this point.
