Bengaluru wakes up to cloudy skies as IMD predicts rainy week with light to moderate showers

In Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts, light to moderate rain accompanied by sustained winds of 40–50 kmph is expected until Saturday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast similar conditions for surrounding districts such as Ramanagara, Tumakuru, Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Chitradurga, and Davangere.
From Monday to Tuesday, moderate rain and thundershowers are likely in parts of Mysuru, Mandya, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Shivamogga. Bengaluru and its neighbouring regions will continue to see light rain paired with gusty winds.
By Wednesday, the weather is expected to intensify. Heavy rain has been forecast at isolated locations in Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga districts, while several other districts, including Bengaluru, will receive light to moderate rain and thundershowers.

Thursday and Friday will bring further spells of heavy rain in parts of Kodagu, Shivamogga, and Chikkamagaluru, with Bengaluru and central Karnataka districts likely to experience consistent light to moderate rainfall and strong winds.
Saturday is expected to follow a similar pattern, with heavy rain in hilly districts and lighter showers continuing in Bengaluru and across southern interior Karnataka.
Residents are advised to carry rain protection, avoid water-logged roads, and stay updated with official alerts, especially those in regions prone to heavy downpours.

Delhis maximum temperature settles at 33 degrees Celsius on Monday
New Delhi, Aug 4 (PTI) Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 33.4 degrees Celsius on Monday, with the weather office predicting rain along with thunderstorms. The minimum temperature settled at 27.2 degrees Celsius, 0.3 notch below the seasonal average. At 5.30 pm, humidity levels were recorded at 68 per cent. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted generally cloudy sky with moderate rain on Tuesday with maximum and minimum temperatures expected to hover around 32 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively. The air quality was in the moderate zone with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 116 at 4 pm. Orange alert issued for three Himachal districts; 266 roads closed
Last Updated: Shimla, Aug 4 (PTI) As heavy rains continued to lash Himachal Pradesh on Monday, the meteorological department has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy precipitation at isolated places in three districts, namely Una, Bilaspur and Kangra the next day. According to officials, 266 roads, including the Aut to Sainj National Highway 305, were closed for vehicular movement on Monday. A landslide at Panthaghati in the suburbs of Shimla city obstructed traffic on Mehli-Shogi bypass on Sunday night, with debris blocking the road and stones damaging some shops nearby, residents said. Since Sunday evening, Kasauli received 82 mm of rainfall, followed by Naina Devi (62.6 mm), Jogindernagar (60 mm), Brahmani (49.2 mm), Manali (45.2 mm), Shimla (36.8 mm), Guler (29 mm), Mandi (27.2 mm), Pandoh (27 mm), Karsog (26.2 mm) and Sarahan (25.5 mm), according to the Met office. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), out of the 266 roads closed on Monday, 155 are in Mandi district, which was recently battered by cloudbursts, landslides and flash floods. Sixty eight of the blocked roads are in Kullu district. Since the onset of monsoon on June 20, the state has incurred losses totalling Rs 1,714 crore till date; around 106 people have died in rain-related incidents while 36 are missing. Additionally, 41 power distribution transformers and 282 water supply schemes have been affected, the SEOC added. In a statement, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri said that nearly 95 water supply schemes affected by the recent rains and flash floods have been temporarily restored. Out of the total of 10,067 water supply schemes, about 5,805 schemes were impacted, and the estimated damage to these stands at approximately Rs 434.47 crore, Agnihotri said, adding that 1,293 irrigation schemes were affected, with estimated losses pegged at Rs 101.67 crore. He said that restoration of water supply and sewerage infrastructure remains a top priority for the state government and the departments concerned have been given necessary directions in this regard. According to the SEOC, as many as 1,692 houses have been fully or partially damaged in the state, which has witnessed 54 flash floods, 28 cloudbursts and 48 major landslides so far. The fatalities include 20 drownings, 19 deaths from falls, 17 deaths from cloudbursts, eight from flash floods, and six from landslides. Seven fishermen rescued after boat capsizes near Kaup lighthouse in Udupi
Seven fishermen had a narrow escape when a fishing boat capsized in sea near the Kaup lighthouse in Udupi on Monday. Local fishermen, Prashanth and Vinod, who rushed, rescued them from drowning. None sustained major injuries, sources said. The boat, Anil Sagar-2, owned by Ajith from Malpe overturned when a huge wave hit, sources said. The fishermen rescued were from Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The rescued men were identified as Jagga, 54, Nukaraj, 53, Konda Garikini, 45, Ram Babu, 33, Eshwar Rao, 38, Jaganadham, 50, and Satyanarayana, 49. It is said that that none of the rescued fishermen were wearing life jackets during the incident. The fishing boat is said to have suffered damage to its engine and fish nets. After a 60-day annual break due to the fishing ban, the fishing season in the coastal belt began from August 1. Heavy rain Meanwhile, heavy rain lashed Kaup taluk on Monday. According to R. Prathiba, tahsildar, Kaup, 29 persons were evacuated from flood-hit areas of Mallaru, Hejmady, Padebettu, and Bada villages. She, who went to the field to evacuate people, said flooding can be avoided if Kamini and Papanashini rivers were dredged.
