Woman spends £880 on National Lottery Scratchcards to see if she'll make money
Megan Smith Evans, a blogger who shares her life and money-saving tips online, was left gobsmacked after she splashed out £880 on National Lottery Scratchcards to see what she'd win. Last year, Megan did something she described as "crazy" by buying a heap of Scratchcards and scratching them off with friends in one night.
She revealed that instead of a traditional lottery syndicate, she and her colleagues opted for a Scratchcard version, each purchasing a £5 Scratchcard every Friday from April to November. They then saved them up for a grand end-of-year scratch-off session. During a get-together, they scratched away at the hoard of cards, with Megan confessing she remained "so hopeful" throughout the year, believing her mates shared her optimism.
Despite acknowledging that £880 was "so much money" they were quite sure they'd at least recoup their investment. In a TikTok video, Megan detailed the process: "It took us about an hour to scratch through them all. We triple-checked every single one."
However, their hopes were soon dashed. Megan explained: "We had a second person checking them, we had a syndicate contract in case we won big and we didn't even win our money back. I think we lost about £50 each, and it was just gutting."
She added: "We were all so hopeful and we didn't win it, and, actually, it's put me off Scratchcards for life. I used to love Scratchcards - including online ones. I used to be obsessed actually.
"I spent an absolute fortune last year on them, and I didn't win anything. With the online Scratchcards as well - it just feels like such fake money, and easy to do.
"At least with the in-person Scratchcards it's like a bit of in-person fun. But yeah, it's put me off Scratchcards completely. Last year I spent way too much money on them."
The video has been viewed dozens of times since it was shared, and people were quick to comment. They posted their thoughts about Scratchcards.
One person said: "Oh no! We have only done them on an occasion, and not that much, but we don't do them often anymore."
Another wrote: "The suspense of waiting that long to scratch them must have been horrendous. Gutted you didn't win your money back on them." And a third also replied: "I'm still not over it."
Reports estimate that your odds of winning on a £5 Scratchcard game works out as about one in four. This also includes breakeven cards (where you win £5).
However, players will always have slightly different odds on different games. If you want to find out more information, it's usually detailed on the back of the specific card you're playing.
According to the National Lottery website, people are now limited to purchasing a maximum of 10 Scratchcards in one transaction. This rule is in place at all stores where you can play The National Lottery.

The unaware shopper was left bemused after randomly coming face-to-face with the former soap star and his daughter. Celeb contestants on the Channel 4 show attempt to evade detection while being tracked by an elite team comprised of the world's best hunters. Among them are serving and ex-police officers, alongside some of the UK's top cyber experts. Daughter Lucy asked pork pie reviewer Charlie: 'Do you have a car? We're on the run for Stand Up To Cancer. We're been hunted by hunters. "This is Brian Conley from the telly. I don't know if you know, and I'm his daughter, Lucy. We really need it lift out of here or anyone to help us…' The TikToker replied yes, but said: 'We need to get a pork pie first.' To camera, Brian laughed: 'We are long gone, hunters... I know this is going to be such a red herring for them, yeah!' Charlie wrote alongside the clip: "Glad to be of service." He concluded the video by writing: "Brian and Lucy didn't have any food for the next part of their journey and they asked me for the pork pie off camera - I couldn't say no." Shock moment Christine McGuinness makes racy confession as she jokes about gagged and tied up on Celebrity Hunted Fans commented: "Brian Conley is a national treasure." A second added: "Stand Up To Cancer Hunted whilst getting a pork pie... unreal." A third asked: "What the hell is going on here?" Celebrity Hunted was thrown into chaos recently as Strictly dancers crashed a BBC star's birthday with cameras in tow while trying to stay incognito. Professional dancers Amy Dowden and Carlos Gu are among the famous duos in the latest series - which will air early next year. The Sun revealed the pair ended up at a co-star's birthday party while filming the Channel 4 series. The star-studded show hit screens earlier this year and fans watched as Christine McGuinness and Blue singer Duncan James were crowned champions. Love Island star Chris Taylor is also taking part in the next series, which will see him try to evade capture from the hunters and beat off competition from other celebrities. As well as appearing on Love Island twice, Chris has also been on Celebs Go Dating. Leon Wilson, CEO Shine TV & Zeppotron, previously teased: "Viewers are in for a treat with the Celebrity version, with an ace cast of new celeb fugitives raring to go on run." Meanwhile, it was confirmed earlier this year that the show's civilian version would return for another outing. TV favourite and panto extraordinaire Brian briefly lit up the Strictly dancefloor in 2017 and did a stint on I'm A Celeb in the 2012 series. He starred alongside the likes of Helen Flanagan, Linda Robson and Charlie Brooks, who won that year. 6 Social media star Charlie documented the bonkers turn of events on his TikTok page Credit: Instagram / @ 6 Brian was on Strictly in 2017 and I'm A Celeb in the 2012 series Credit: Getty 6 Brian and Lucy have teamed up to appear on the C4 show where celebs go on the run Credit: Getty

But how much would you pay for a good quality one? One man recently bought the most expensive burger in the UK and has shared his verdict on whether it is really worth it or not, after paying a hefty price for it. Viral food reviewer Laurence – known as @letstestlaurence on TikTok, is known for tasting the UK's most popular and expensive food items. He has built up such a reputation, boasting over four million followers on TikTok, that people totally trust his opinions. He recently bought a burger on the fourth floor of Harrods, in Gordon Ramsay 's eatery - and paid a whopping £85. The quality treat from Gordon Ramsay Burger includes 100% UK heritage beef patties – and is a bespoke blend of chuck, brisket and rib cap, grilled to juicy perfection on an open flame and brushed with Ivy House Farm butter for an extra hit of nutty sweetness, according to Harrods. The posh department store adds: "Fire up your taste buds with the chef's signature Hell's Kitchen Burger, layered with fresh mozzarella, jalapeños, avocado and roasted tomatoes, or double down on the patties with the Oklahoma Smash Burger, piled up with American cheese, red onion, house pickles and sriracha mayo.." After walking up to the fourth floor, Laurence managed to get a table straight away. When the burger arrived, the food review said it "smells pretty incredible". He said he noticed a taste of truffle inside the treat and said they burger was "extremely rich". "All the flavours are sort of coming together," he added. The dish also comes on a fancy plate, and accompanied with a large cone of truffle fries. "Again, the truffle flavour is really strong," he added, noted that the chips come with an aioli sauce. Once, finished he used the Gordon Ramsay-branded hand wipe. "I tried this, it was amazing," said one person, while another who thinks they would love the treat said: "Loving the truffle vibes. Girlfriend can't even stand the smell of truffle without wanting to throw up, bizarre, I love the stuff." But others don't seem as impressed. One commented: "Daylight robbery prices, 85 quid for a burger is insane, even with the most prime ingredients, shouldn't be over 40 quid." While another shocked individual exclaimed: "£85! For a burger." Someone else wrote: "£85 for a burger and chips, I don't care who's restaurant it is, they are ripping people off, the price is because of the name of the owner of the restaurant." While another person said: "Go to a butchers shop and they will more often than not have a better burger to cook yourself than you'll get at any restaurant." One other said: "I would never pay that for a burger that is mad no wonder why everything cost so much up in London."
