Pensacola Beach Air Show could be impacted by weeklong showers, thunderstorms

Yahoo07-07-2025
Another week of summer shower and storm patterns is likely to keep Pensacola Beach Air Show organizers on their toes, with wetter weather more likely toward the weekend.
An upper-level low is moving moisture into the area, setting the stage for scattered showers and storms Monday through Tuesday before more stable weather attempts to build, according to the National Weather Service's latest forecast discussion.
Smaller disturbances could prevent the more stable ridge from developing, giving way to an uptick in showers and storms from midweek into the weekend, just as the Blue Angels gear up for the four-day air show at Pensacola Beach.
The silver lining is that storms will follow the typical summertime pattern of developing during the morning time over marine zones and along the coasts, and pulse-type storms developing during the afternoon hours along the sea breeze.
Pulse storms are typically single-cell thunderstorms that are short-lived and non-severe, according to the NWS.
Blue Angels week, officially dubbed Red, White and Blues Week, starts with a special 'Breakfast with the Blues' event over Pensacola Beach on Wednesday, which could be impeded by a 40% chance of thunderstorms.
Thursday's practice show could also be impacted, with thunderstorm chances reaching 50%. Friday and Saturday's shows both have high chances of thunderstorms at 60% and 50%, respectively.
The good news is that, should the NWS' forecast hold up, any thunderstorm activity that does occur could come in short bursts, leaving some wiggle room for the show to go on with only minor interruptions.
Anyone who has watched the Blue Angels perform has a good idea of the precision required by the team's high-speed maneuvers. Having a clear sight of the air space and surrounding landmarks is crucial and inclement weather can pose unnecessary risks.
Still, the Blue Angels do everything in their power to ensure fans get a show when it's possible. That means grounding other acts and holding out for clear enough skies to perform, even if it's limited.
In 2019, Tropical Storm Barry barreled into the area, forcing the Blue Angels to make some last-minute changes.
During the Friday show that year, the U.S. Coast Guard cutter that normally anchors near the Pensacola Beach Pier and serves as the center point for the Blue Angels' beach show was unable to be part of the show.
In a rare instance, the Blue Angels performed a 'risky,' limited 20-minute show at their normal time. The jets flew past the beach with their smoke on multiple times, and the solo jet was able to get in a sneak pass.
Chantal is now a post-tropical cyclone. It will continue to pose flash flood risks across portions of the Delmarva, New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania.
It will also bring life-threatening surf and rip current conditions at beaches along the East Coast from northeastern Florida to the Mid-Atlantic states over the next day or so, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Here's a look at 7-day forecast for Pensacola, Florida, according to the National Weather Service office in Mobile.

Popsicles, spray park, family time: Fort St. John locals enjoy warm weather at Centennial Park

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The recent heatwave has seen some locations in the Peace region, including Dawson Creek, break temperature records. Temperatures around Fort St. John will reach highs of 29 C on Friday, August 1st, with the humidex making it seem like the mid-30s. With a heat warning from Environment Canada set to stretch to the start of the August long weekend , went to the Rotary Spray Park in Fort St. John's Centennial Park to find out what residents are doing to stay cool. Dale Bigelow was enjoying the shade, having some Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) with his daughter and grandchildren. 'Just trying to stay cool,' said Bigelow. 'The best way is to come out to the spray park,' said Bigelow. 'The city does a great job [with it].' A little further down, Georgia Vella was spending time with her newborn daughter Adeline and nephew Waylon. 'Yesterday when it was super warm, we just enjoyed the shade,' said Vella. 'We've been hanging out [with Waylon] with daycare closed this week. 'We're going to try to take him to the [Fort St. John International] Air Show. Hopefully that pans out for us.' Finally, Rebecca Soggie and her friend Jewel spent time with the latter's three children, saying this weekend will feature a hike near Tumbler Ridge's Windfall Lake. Her response about beating the heat was answered with the simple statement: 'Lots of popsicles.' Check the latest temperatures in Fort St. John on Environment Canada's website . Error! EF0 tornado briefly touches down in Annapolis

A waterspout was spotted over Spa Creek in the Eastport neighborhood of Annapolis on Thursday evening. On Friday, the National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed that the waterspout passed briefly as an EF0 tornado over the Severn Sailing Association marina. According to the NWS, a witness watched as the waterspout moved ashore and over the marina, blowing over multiple trailered and small boats in the parking area. Videos from social media captured near the Route 450 bridge showed the tornado spinning from the shoreline to the mouth of the river, moving west to east. It then disappeared before reaching land on the opposite side of the river. No additional damage was reported. A Flash Flood Watch was in effect for most of the Baltimore region, including Howard County, until early Friday morning. Storms brought severe damage to multiple communities. In Mt. Airy, a 13-year-old boy drowned after being swept into an outdoor drainage pipe. Meanwhile, in Harford County, two people were rescued from floodwaters at the Pulaski Highway and Baltimore County line. "Numerous people have been rescued from flood waters as a result. Fortunately, there have been no injuries," the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company said. "Do not attempt to drive or cross flooded roads or sidewalks. Turn around, don't drown." Additionally, an ambulance and at least one vehicle crashed in the Joppa area and were leaning on the side of the road on Mountain Road and Greenspring Avenue.
