Bad Company, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, The White Stripes Lead Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2025

Yahoo20-05-2025
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has officially unveiled its 2025 class, confirming Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, Soundgarden and The White Stripes as this year's inductees.
Ryan Seacrest announced the inductees on ABC's American Idol on Sunday night, the second year in a row the show revealed the Rock Hall class (ABC parent company Disney has the TV rights to the event). Aside from the performer category, Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon are being honored with the Musical Influence award. Thom Bell, Nicky Hopkins and Carol Kaye are getting the Musical Excellence Award, and Lenny Waronker — the producer and executive best known for his longtime stint as the president of Warner Records — is this year's Ahmet Ertegun Award recipient.

The induction will take place November 8th at the Peacock Theater, and it will stream live on Disney+ that night. A special will air on ABC at a later date. The Rock Hall will announce on-sale information for tickets for the event at a later date. This will be the fourth time the induction will take place in Los Angeles, and the first time since 2022.
'Each of these inductees created their own sound and attitude that had a profound impact on culture and helped to change the course of Rock & Roll forever,' John Sykes Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, said in a statement. 'Their music gave a voice to generations and influenced countless artists that followed in their footsteps.'
The nominees who missed the cut this year are The Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Maná, Oasis and Phish. The Crowes, Idol, Maná and Phish had never been nominated before. Phish handily won this year's Rock Hall fan vote (which counts for one ballot in the actual voting process), while Bad Company took second and Idol came in third. Joy Division/New Order were nominated back in 2023, while Oasis and Carey were both nominated for the first time in 2024.
Last year's Rock Hall class included Cher, Mary J. Blige, Ozzy Osbourne and A Tribe Called Quest.
Artists become eligible for the Rock Hall 25 years after their first commercial release. Checker, Cocker, Bad Company and Outkast are all getting in on their first nominations. Cocker's induction comes 11 years after the English singer died back in 2014, and eight years after Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell's tragic death in 2017. Lauper and The White Stripes were both previously nominated in 2023, while this was Soundgarden's third time on the ballot after nominations in 2020 and 2023. Checker's waited the longest for an induction out of this year's class, having released his first album back in 1960.

A Pop Star's Cookies Draw a Crowd (No Backflip Required)

If the singer Benson Boone were a cookie, he'd taste, in this reporter's opinion, unpleasant. The flavor would be cloyingly sweet and frosted with notes of lemon, berry and an unnameable processed aftertaste that lingers on the tongue as if you've just woken up and have yet to brush your teeth. Or, at the very least, that's what a Crumbl cookie inspired by one of Mr. Boone's songs tastes like. Still, that hasn't stopped people from popping into the nearest Crumbl — of which there are more than 1,000 locations across the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada — to purchase Benson Boone's Moonbeam Ice Cream Cookie, a collaboration between the sweet treat company and the artist. Mr. Boone, a singer who quit 'American Idol' in 2021 and found mainstream fame soon after, is perhaps best known for backflipping off pianos in tight jumpsuits while performing his hit 'Beautiful Things.' (Mark Zuckerberg, Meta's chief executive, borrowed the particular blue, sequined suit Mr. Boone wore for the 2025 Grammy Awards while he serenaded his wife at her birthday party earlier this year. He did not do a backflip.) 'Mystical Magical,' another song by Mr. Boone, was the inspiration for the cookie thanks to the lyric 'you can feel like moonbeam ice cream, taking off your bluejeans.' Katy Perry & Orlando Bloom's Relationship Suffered Due to Lackluster Career, Says ‘Source'

and split might have been a result of their respective lackluster careers. A source exclusively told RadarOnline that the pair's relationship ended because they were frustrated with their 'fading' spotlight. Their bitterness reportedly led to arguments with each other, eventually becoming one of the key reasons in their rumored breakup. Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom's relationship allegedly turned sour as they tackled problems related to their career, resulting in their rumored split. According to RadarOnline's exclusive report, the two have been navigating their slow career trajectory, which only worsened their bond. A source said that the stars couldn't 'take the strain of watching each other fail.' The insider also claimed that they took their frustrations out on each other, leading to 'endess (sic) rows.' Sources shared that Perry witnessed her judging role on 'American Idol' crack up bit by bit, as well as her album '143' failing to become a chart-topper. Meanwhile, Bloom is working towards acting in his next hit film, hoping to reprise his role as Legolas in the next installment in the 'Lord of the Rings' franchise, titled 'The Hunt for Gollum.' The actor is supposedly hoping that this movie will 'turn him back into an international leading man.' The insider noted that the actor will have to make wise career choices until then. They also claimed that Bloom has been struggling creatively for some time and isn't keen on becoming a TV personality, especially after seeing Perry's 'time-consuming' run on 'American Idol.' The singer, for her part, is looking for her next big breakthrough in music. Amid their dwindling careers, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom are reportedly finding some semblance of peace and joy in parenting their daughter, Daisy Dove, amid split rumors. The source further noted that the actor is 'sensitive' over the 'house husband' label, adding that their wealth gap is also creating issues between them. They said, 'It's been stressful as hell for them, so no wonder their separate battles ended up in them turning on each other.' As of now, the pair has yet to address the breakup rumors publicly. 'American Idol' on Mississippi city honor: 'I don't want it' following threats

New "American Idol" winner Jamal Roberts is scooping up honors and preparing to head out on tour with Brandy and Monica, including an Indy stop in October. One honor he's passing on, though, is recognition from a Mississippi town, saying there have been threatening messages from those unhappy with him being honored there. The Meridian, Mississippi, native won Season 23 of "American Idol" in May. Ahead of several concerts scheduled across his home state, the singer declined acceptance of a key to the city from Laurel, Mississippi, revealing there had been negative comments and threats, including people saying they would bring guns to an August concert at which he is performing. He made the revelation after a local concert promoter posted on social media that Laurel Mayor Johnny Magee had given him permission to give the "American Idol" champ a key to the city on Aug. 2 at the Noir & Blanc concert Roberts was headlining. "I did not ask for a key to the city," Roberts said in a Facebook Live. Roberts said some were angry because he doesn't live in the town and they had cited others who they say live in the area and deserve the honor. "Y'all should get it and give it to them, somebody that's deserving, I guess. … You know, been working in the community for years. But I don't want it," he said on Facebook. Roberts politely declined and thanked the mayor, adding: "But, respectfully, keep it." The singer still plans to perform at the upcoming event. The city has a population of about 16,900 and is between Hattiesburg and Meridian. It's known for its history, architecture and Southern charm. Ben and Erin Napier made the town a national name with their show "Home Town." Laurel's overture to Roberts followed the recent presentation of a key to the city to the singer and his children by Atmore, Alabama, at a June show there. Roberts said the town "made us feel like we were at home." "Thank y'all for loving on my babies and accepting me just the way I am," he wrote on Facebook on June 14. Roberts was a physical education teacher at Crestwood Elementary School in Mississippi before appearing on "American Idol." A dad to three daughters – Harmoni, Lyrik and newborn Gianna – he's the first Black man to win the singing competition since Ruben Studdard took the Season 2 title in 2003. The second winner from Mississippi, Roberts tried out for the show twice before coming back and winning it all. Ultimately, he won a golden ticket this year singing Rick James' "Mary Jane" during the audition rounds. Roberts won Season 23 by earning the most fan votes out of 26 million cast. Host Ryan Seacrest said it was the "biggest finale vote in show history," according to PEOPLE magazine. Roberts has 2025 Mississippi concerts listed on Eventbrite before the Brandy and Monica 'The Boy is Mine' Tour starts in the fall. Shows include: Roberts will be the only guy on Brandy and Monica's highly anticipated 'The Boy is Mine' Tour this fall. Brandy and Monica: "The Boy is Mine" tour coming to Indianapolis The 24-city outing marks the first time the two Grammy winners are co-headlining and is built around their 1998 duet 'The Boy is Mine,' which spent 13 consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Also on the tour are more Grammy winners — Kelly Rowland and Muni Long. The tour kicks off on Oct. 16 at Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, and concludes Dec. 7 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. Tickets are available at *Muni Long will not perform.
