Garda car 'deliberately' hit by Northern registered Audi in 'serious incident'

An investigation is underway after a motorist 'deliberately' drove into a Garda car in Louth, causing damage to the vehicle. At around 8:30pm on Saturday, August 3, members of the Louth Roads Policing unit were on patrol as part of the Garda Bank Holiday weekend road safety operation when they were involved in a serious incident. Gardaí have been conducting a dedicated road traffic enforcement operation throughout the August Bank Holiday weekend which commenced at 7am on Thursday, July 31 and will continue until 7am Wednesday, August 6. While patrolling the Ravendale area, north of Dundalk, Gardaí observed a grey Northern Ireland registered Audi A4 acting suspiciously. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver deliberately drove into and caused damage to the Roads Policing patrol car showing a reckless disregard for Garda safety. Gardaí have launched a witness appeal (Image: Stock image from PA Archive) Thankfully, no Gardaí were physically harmed, and investigations are continuing. Gardaí say they are 'working closely' with colleagues in the PSNI to identify those responsible as they appeal for witnesses. A Garda spokesperson said: 'If you witnessed anything suspicious in the Ravensdale area around 8.30pm - or have any information that may assist- please contact Dundalk Garda Station on 0429388400 or call 999 in an emergency 'Our Roads Policing Units remain on patrol across the region focused on keeping people safe. Man 'banned' from Ryanair after being hauled off flight for 'vaping in toilet'

A passenger was kicked off a Ryanair flight to a popular holiday hotspot for allegedly vaping in the bathroom and setting off the fire alarm. The 21-year-old man reportedly caused a two-hour delay to his flight after he allegedly puffed on a vape in the plane's bathroom before the aircraft was due to depart Edinburgh Airport for Alicante in Spain on July 3. Footage captured by fellow passenger Tristan James Walker shows the man being escorted off the plane by six police officers before being hauled into a van on the tarmac. According to Mr Walker, the 21-year-old man was caught after the lavatory smoke detector went off. After the alarm sounded, the pilot is said to have informed the accused he would be removed from the plane. Mr Walker told Luxury Travel Daily: "A young lad in a group happened to set the alarm off for apparently vaping. "The pilot then came out after the air stewardess explained what happened, and then the pilot stated he would be removed from the plane. "The young lad waited for over six police officers to come on board. "He was taken off, he was very calm, did not argue or anything, no drama. "We then happened to bump into him on Benidorm's famous strip and he told us he just got a caution and was banned from Ryanair." Authorities have confirmed the 21-year-old suspect has been charged in relation to an aviation offence. A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 7.55 am on Thursday, July 3, 2025 were called to an aircraft at Edinburgh Airport. "Officers attended, and a 21-year-old man was charged in connection with an aviation offence. A report was submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
