"Welcomed pilgrims in traditional way," BJP's Ravinder Raina after first batch of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims reaches Kulgam
Speaking to ANI, Ravinder Raina said, 'Shri Amarnath Yatra has reached the Kashmir Valley. The people of Jammu & Kashmir have welcomed the pilgrims. We are welcoming the pilgrims in a traditional way, holding this 'Kangri'.'
DM Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan, said everyone is happy to welcome the yatris to the Valley.
'People from civil society, traders associations, apple growers and Administration have come here to welcome the yatris. We are very happy to welcome all the pilgrims to J&K,' Khan said.
The first batch of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims was warmly welcomed in Qazigund, Kulgam, with flowers. People from civil society, traders, apple growers, and the administration also joined in the traditional welcome.
Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary welcomed the first batch of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims in Banihal.
Chaudhary said the region is witnessing a festival-like atmosphere, with people from all communities warmly welcoming pilgrims.
Expressing hope for the restoration of statehood, he said, 'We will pray to Lord Bhola Shankar that next time we welcome these pilgrims to the state of J&K, not to a UT...'
He praised the efforts of security forces and the administration and called the Omar Abdullah-led government patriotic and committed to national unity.
'...We are here to welcome the pilgrims. The Security Forces and the Administration are fulfilling their responsibilities. Today, we can see a festival-like atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir, and this is the beauty of Jammu and Kashmir. People from all communities are welcoming pilgrims here. We have heard that LG sahib has prayed for J&K to be granted statehood status...Omar Abdullah's government is a patriotic government, and we always take steps to strengthen the nation.'
The 38-day yatra will commence on July 3 and conclude on August 9. The pilgrimage will follow two routes - the traditional 48-km Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the 14-km shorter but steeper Baltal route in Ganderbal district. The first batch of pilgrims will depart from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on July 2.
Security in the whole Jammu region has been massively heightened for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, following the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack. Over 50,000 personnel, including those from the CRPF, Army, and Police, have been deployed, along with continuous monitoring through CCTV, drones, jammers, and facial recognition technology, along the route.
Proper arrangements have been made for medical teams, air ambulances, and emergency evacuation plans to ensure maximum safety during the pilgrimage. (ANI)

G Kishan Reddy releases aluminium vision document to drive green manufacturing, resource security
New Delhi [India], July 4 (ANI): Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy on Friday released the Aluminium Vision Document at the International Conference on Sustainable and Responsible Mining through Best Mine Closure Practices, organised by the Indian National Committee of the World Mining Congress in Hyderabad. Addressing the gathering, Reddy said the Aluminium Vision Document reflects the Government's commitment to building a self-reliant and resource-secure India. He highlighted the aluminium sector's strategic role in enabling clean energy systems, electric mobility, and modern infrastructure. The document has been prepared through extensive consultations with industry stakeholders, including National Aluminium Company Ltd. (NALCO), Hindalco Industries Ltd., Vedanta Ltd., Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC) and leading associations such as the Aluminium Association of India (AAI), Aluminium Secondary Manufacturers Association (ASMA) and the Metal Recycling Association of India (MRAI). According to a release by the Ministry of Mines, the document outlines a strategic roadmap to scale up aluminium production sixfold by 2047. It aims to expand bauxite production capacity to 150 MTPA, double the national aluminium recycling rate, promote the adoption of low-carbon technologies and strengthen raw material security through targeted policy reforms and institutional mechanisms. The Aluminium Vision Document aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047 and sets the foundation for a globally competitive and environmentally responsible aluminium industry. In a post on social media platform X, the Ministry of Mines added, 'The document outlines a bold roadmap to scale aluminium output sixfold, raise bauxite capacity to 150 MTPA, boost recycling, and promote green technologies -- aligned with PM @narendramodi ji's vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.' India is the 2nd largest Aluminium producer, and a top-10 producer in refined copper. Continued growth in aluminium and copper points toward continued strong economic activity in user sectors such as energy, infrastructure, construction, automotive and machinery. In the non-ferrous metal sector, primary aluminium production in FY 2025-26 posted a growth of 1.5 per cent over the corresponding period last year, increasing to 3.47 lakh ton (LT) in FY 2025-26 (April) from 3.42 LT in FY 2024-25 (April). Nari Shakti: Astha Poonia becomes Indian Navy's first woman fighter pilot
Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) [India], July 4 (ANI): Sub Lieutenant Astha Poonia officially became the first woman to be streamed into the fighter stream of Naval Aviation. Paving the way for a new era of women fighter pilots in the force, and shattering barriers, Poonia also received the prestigious 'Wings of Gold' from Rear Admiral Janak Bevli, Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (Air). According to the Ministry of Defence, the Indian Navy celebrated the graduation of the Second Basic Hawk Conversion Course at the Naval Air Station, INS Dega, in Visakhapatnam. Lieutenant Atul Kumar Dhull and Sub-Lieutenant Astha Poonia received the prestigious 'Wings of Gold' from Rear Admiral Janak Bevli, ACNS (Air) on July 3. Earlier on Thursday, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) cleared 10 capital acquisition proposals worth approximately Rs 1.05 lakh crore for the procurement of indigenously sourced quick reaction surface-to-air missiles, naval vessels, and other equipment. The DAC accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for capital acquisition proposals, including the procurement of Armoured Recovery Vehicles, Electronic Warfare System, Integrated Common Inventory Management System for the Tri-Services, and Surface-to-Air Missiles, according to an official statement from the Defence Ministry. The Council met for the first time after Operation Sindoor, which was launched on May 7 in response to the heinous Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people. India's response was deliberate, precise, and strategic. Without crossing the Line of Control or international boundary, Indian forces struck terrorist infrastructure and eliminated multiple threats. Additionally, the ministry stated that AoNs were also accorded for the procurement of Moored Mines, Mine Countermeasure Vessels, Super Rapid Gun Mounts, and Submersible Autonomous Vessels, to enable the mitigation of potential risks posed to naval and Merchant Vessels. Earlier, on June 30, defence sources reported that the tri-services had submitted various proposals for procurement, including the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile System, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The project, worth around Rs 30,000 crore, would be critical for the Indian Army's air defence capabilities as the system can be effective against targets up to 30 km. The three aircraft would be acquired from an original equipment manufacturer and then be modified by the DRDO lab Centre for Airborne Systems in partnership with private partners. (ANI)

Gujarat's women-led dairy societies surges by 21%, revenue hits 9,000 cr
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India] July 4 (ANI): Under the leadership of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Gujarat has successfully translated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of women's empowerment into actionable initiatives. By prioritising the cooperative model, the state has not only enhanced women's leadership in the rural economy but also strengthened the cooperative sector. This approach, guided by Union Home & Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, emphasises the vital role of economically and socially empowering women as part of building a self-reliant India. Through these efforts, Gujarat exemplifies how cooperative models can uplift communities and foster sustainable development. On the occasion of International Cooperative Day, the Government of Gujarat released inspiring statistics showcasing the rising participation of women in cooperatives across the state. According to the release, between 2020 and 2025, the number of women-led dairy cooperative societies grew by 21% from 3,764 to 4,562. According to the Gujarat Cooperation Department, women's leadership in the dairy sector is increasing significantly. In the year 2025, the board of the milk union had 25% of women as 82 directors, which reflects their active participation in the policy-making of milk unions. Furthermore, out of 36 lakh dairy producer members in Gujarat, approximately 12 lakh are women, accounting for nearly 32% of the total. Not only that, during the same period, women's participation in the management committees of village-level cooperative societies has increased by 14%. The number of women in these committees has risen from 70,200 to 80,000, as stated in the release. These women are now actively taking on key responsibilities such as policymaking, operations, and monitoring at the grassroots cooperative level. On the special occasion of International Day of Cooperatives, data shared by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (GCMMF) reveals that milk procurement by women-led dairy cooperative societies in Gujarat has increased by 39%, from 41 lakh litres per day in 2020 to 57 lakh litres per day in 2025. This now accounts for approximately 26% of the state's total milk procurement. Women-led dairy cooperatives in Gujarat have not only become a symbol of social transformation but also a significant contributor to the rural economy. In 2020, these cooperatives had an estimated daily revenue of 17 crore, amounting to approximately 6,310 crore annually. Over the past five years, this figure has risen to 25 crore per day by 2025, surpassing the estimated annual revenue of 9,000 crore. This reflects a remarkable increase of 2,700 crore in revenue, a 43% growth during this period. This success stands as a strong testament to the empowerment of women through the cooperative model.
