Viral Video: Ian McKellen receives grand reception at Glastonbury as crowd chants his name during surprise appearance
Glastonbury Festival continues to serve unforgettable moments in its latest edition, but few could match the thunderous reception that greeted Sir Ian McKellen during an unannounced appearance on stage with the Scissor Sisters. The legendary British actor, best known for his iconic roles in 'The Lord of the Rings', 'X-Men', and numerous Shakespearean productions, stunned fans when he walked onto the stage to perform a dramatic reading of the monologue from the Scissor Sisters' track 'Invisible Light'. Originally voiced by McKellen on the band's 2010 album 'Night Work', the piece has remained a cult favourite for fans of the group. This live rendition, however, took things to another level. As the first words of the monologue rang out across the crowd, audience members erupted with cheers. Many began chanting 'Ian! Ian! Ian!' in unison, visibly moving the 85-year-old actor, who appeared touched and emotional as the tribute echoed through Worthy Farm. Social media quickly lit up with fan reactions, many describing the moment as the highlight of the day. 'Ian McKellen showing up to perform with Scissor Sisters might have been THE highlight of the day (sic),' one fan wrote on X. 'Sir Ian McKellen gets emotional as the #Glastonbury crowd chants his name. I love this man! (sic)' read another post. 'Sir Ian McKellen doing the 'Invisible Light' monologue during Scissor Sisters set at Glastonbury! MAJOR MOMENT, goosebumps all over. One of my all-time favourite tracks from one of my all-time favourite albums (sic)," a user exclaimed. Others captured the emotional resonance of the moment: 'Oh Christ, Ian McKellen rocked up with the Scissor Sisters #Glastonbury,' wrote one fan. Another user wrote 'I spent the entire set screaming for Ian McKellen to come out and then cried when he did.' McKellen, a long-standing supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and an openly gay icon in the arts, has collaborated with the Scissor Sisters before but has rarely performed the monologue live. His appearance at Glastonbury not only delighted the crowd but served as a poignant reminder of the intersection of queer artistry, performance, and legacy. The festival, renowned for its eclectic line-up and cultural significance, has once again proven its power to deliver moments that transcend music. Amid performances from the likes of Neil Young, Rod Stewart, Alanis Morissette, and Brandi Carlile, it was Sir Ian McKellen's theatrical cameo that truly stole the show on Saturday.

'R*pist': Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's photo with MAGA-linked NFL stars is sparking Swiftie outrage online
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce faced backlash after posing with Will Compton and Taylor Lewan (Getty Images) Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are no strangers to the limelight, but their recent photo with controversial podcast hosts Will Compton and Taylor Lewan—known for their MAGA connections—has ignited backlash across social media. What was meant to be a lighthearted moment at Kelce's 'Tight End University' turned into a flashpoint for political tensions between Swift's fanbase and the couple's new associations. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's flex photo with right-wing podcasters raises eyebrows among loyal fans The now-viral image, posted by the hosts of the "Bussin' With The Boys" podcast, shows Swift and Kelce posing arm-in-arm with the former NFL players. The caption read: 'Confirmed: Taylor Swift is FOR THE BOYS,' a statement that didn't land well with her liberal-leaning Swiftie fanbase. Will Compton and Taylor Lewan, who run the podcast, previously interviewed Donald Trump ahead of the last U.S. presidential election. UFC boss Dana White even credited the podcast with boosting Trump's campaign momentum, noting it helped "propel Trump to victory over Kamala Harris." That endorsement, combined with the duo's public MAGA affiliations—including a photo-op with Trump at a UFC event in 2023—has made them polarizing figures. Fans were quick to express their disappointment. A fan @callsmybluff wrote, 'and taylor swift the so called '#1 enemy of republicans' is hanging out with republicans cause her little boyfriend is friends with them and even imitating trump's pose. So now what?' Another user @beloved_hhost wrote, 'how many photos is it gonna take for swifties to realize that she's actively choosing to take photos & associate with these kinds of people? these are the people travis associates with & support the chiefs 'sHe DoEsN't GeT a SaY' fucking save it bc yes she does.' Another user @Cinnemafill wrote, 'Taylor swift hanging out with her maga boyfriend and his rxpist friend but sure Joe alwyn is the evil guy here. ' Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce faces heavy backlash (SS via Twitter) A deep contradiction between Taylor Swift's past activism and her recent company What makes this controversy more explosive is Swift's past political stance. In 2024, she publicly endorsed Kamala Harris in her bid for re-election. At the time, Trump fired back on Truth Social: 'I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!' He later doubled down with another insult, asking, 'Has anyone noticed that, since I said 'I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,' she's no longer 'HOT'?' Many fans see her recent association with Trump-linked personalities as a betrayal. One Swiftie commented, 'Imagine being rich enough to make the world a slightly better place... then actively choosing to surround yourself with these thugs instead.' Also Read: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's NFL flex pose sparks political controversy over Donald Trump comparison Swift and Kelce have yet to address the backlash directly. But with her image so tied to progressive ideals, the optics of this moment could cast a long shadow on the public's perception of her—and their seemingly storybook romance. Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story. Watch Episode 2 here.

What to Stream: Ryan Coogler's Sinners, a Kesha album, SharkFest and John Cena with Idris Elba
Kesha enjoying her freedom on her first new album since she left her old label and Ryan Coogler's guts-spilling vampire film 'Sinners,' are some of the new television, films, music and games headed to a device near you. Also among the streaming offerings worth your time, as selected by The Associated Press' entertainment journalists: Charlize Theron in 'The Old Guard 2' on Netflix, National Geographic's 25-hour 'SharkFest' and John Cena playing a U.S. president opposite Idris Elba as the UK's prime minister in the comedy 'Heads of State.' – Ryan Coogler's 'Sinners,' arguably the movie of the year up to this point, begins streaming Friday, July 4 on Max. With $363.8 million in worldwide ticket sales, Coogler's supernatural thriller is one of the most successful original films of the last two decades. It stars Michael B. Jordan as a pair of twins who return to their hometown to open a juke joint in 1930s Mississippi. Vampires, and other dark forces, intrude on their plans. In her review, AP's Jocelyn Noveck wrote: 'How Coogler pulls everything off at once — and makes it cohere, mostly — is a sight to see.' – The wait has been long for 'The Old Guard 2' (Netflix, Wednesday), a sequel to Gina Prince-Bythewood's 2020 streaming hit starring Charlize Theron as a member of a team of centuries-old mercenaries. In 'The Old Guard 2,' shot all the way back in 2022, Victoria Mahoney takes over as director, while Theron returns as Andy, a warrior who has now lost her immortality. – In 'Heads of State' (Prime Video, Wednesday), John Cena plays the president of the United States and Idris Elba plays the prime minister of the United Kingdom. What could go wrong? In Ilya Naishuller's comedy, the two are hunted by the same adversary. Elba's politician, a former commando, is better prepared than Cena's president, a former action movie star. – A Zambian family funeral unearths a dark past and an anguished reckoning in Rungano Nyoni's beguiling 'On Becoming a Guinea Fowl' (Max, Friday, July 4). Nyoni's follow-up to the equally compelling 'I Am Not a Witch,' AP Film Writer Lindsey Bahr wrote in her review, 'cements the exciting arrival of a true filmmaker.' — Kesha is a free agent. On Independence Day, she'll self-release '.' (pronounced 'Period'), her first new full-length album since her departure from RCA and the Dr. Luke-founded Kemosabe Records in 2023. That year, the pop star and the producer settled nearly a decade of suits and countersuits over her accusation that he drugged and raped her and his claim that she made it up and defamed him. Across the 11-track release, Kesha is clearly enjoying some newfound freedoms: '.' is a stuffed with throwback, ebullient pop, like the sultry 'JOYRIDE.,' the country-and-western-themed 'YIPPEE-KI-YAY.,' and the bighearted power ballad 'DELUSIONAL.' — After a successful season 2, the cast of 'The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives' gather for their first reunion episode on Hulu. #MomTok has a lot to hash out including infidelity rumors and accusations of clout-chasing. Nick Viall, a podcaster and former star of ABC's 'The Bachelor," hosts the special streaming Tuesday. — Netflix has a documentary previewing its upcoming Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano fight at Madison Square Garden. "Countdown: Taylor Vs. Serrano," debuts Thursday and is narrated by Uma Thurman. It will show Taylor and Serrano as they train and prepare for their third match. — A number of fin-tastic programs about sharks stream in July. Netflix offers a new reality competition show called 'All the Sharks' debuting on Friday, July 4. Four teams of shark experts compete to locate and photograph the most number of sharks. The winners get $50,000 for their favorite marine charity. — National Geographic has compiled more than 25 hours of television for its annual SharkFest which begins streaming Sunday, July 6, on Disney and Hulu. In the docuseries, 'Investigation Shark Attack,' scientists attempt to pinpoint what causes a shark to attack. 'Super Shark Highway' follows researchers as they track sharks along migration routes in the waters off Australia. The goal is to find ways for sharks and humans to coexist in the busy ocean. — Giant robots! Maybe you like the kind that can stomp across a city, crushing office buildings under their huge metal feet. Or you prefer the ones who can fly above the chaos, unleashing missiles at each other. Perhaps you'd rather have your mech just hang back and perform maintenance on the ones taking the most damage. Whatever your choice, Mecha Break, from China's Amazing Seasun Games, hopes to have you covered. It's a multiplayer slugfest with 3 vs. 3, 6 vs. 6 and human vs. AI scenarios. You can start building your dream bot Wednesday on Xbox X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
