Two Arrested For Hacking Websites, Posting Anti-India Message In Gujarat
The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has caught two persons, including a minor, for allegedly hacking Indian websites and posting anti-India messages online, officials said on Tuesday.
According to officials, the accused include a minor boy and an another individual identified as Jaseem Shahnawaz Ansari (a resident of Nadiad in Kheda district of Gujarat).
Both were running a Telegram channel where they shared proof of their hacking activities, they said.
During the recent Operation Sindoor, the ATS received multiple alerts about hackers targeting Indian websites.
According to ATS DIG Sunil Joshi, "We often receive information about such cyber-attacks. During the operation, we found that anti-national elements were actively trying to bring down Indian websites."
As per DIG Joshi, Inspector Dhruv Prajapati of Gujarat ATS received an input about Ansari and the minor running the 'AnonSec' channel.
A special team was formed to investigate. The phones of both suspects were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for examination.
The investigation revealed that the accused had earlier created two Telegram channels named 'EXPLOITXSEC' and 'ELITEXPLOIT' (a backup channel). These were later renamed to 'AnonSec'.
"They made the backup channel because if their channel is taken down for some reason, they can continue their activity through the backup channel," DIG Joshi said.
Though both had failed Class 12, they reportedly became highly skilled in hacking and cyber activities in just 6 to 8 months. Apart from hacking websites, they were also found posting messages against India, he said.
An FIR has been filed in connection with the case and further investigation is ongoing, he added.

ED arrests Bobby Patel, gets 4-day remand in money laundering, human trafficking case
The Ahmedabad Zonal Office of Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested human trafficker Bharatkumar Rambhai Patel alias Bobby Patel, said a statement on Thursday. Bobby Patel, who has cases against him in Gujarat, West Bengal and Delhi for illegally sending Indian nationals abroad, was arrested by the ED under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Patel was produced before the Special Judge (PMLA), Mirzapura Court, Ahmedabad, which remanded him to ED custody for four days custody, the agency said in the statement. The ED said that it had initiated its investigation against Patel and others based on an FIR registered for illegally sending Indian citizens abroad since 2015 by Sola High Court Police Station in Ahmedabad City. The ED said that its probe allegedly revealed that Patel has been involved in sending 'desirous Indian nationals abroad illegally for exorbitant consideration on the basis of bogus or fabricated documents for getting visas of different countries with duplicate or bogus passports used as genuine by impersonating the passengers wrongly'. For this purpose, Patel and others, 'used to collect Rs 60 to Rs 75 lakh for one passenger, Rs 1 to 1.25 crore for a couple (husband and wife) and Rs 1.25 to 1.75 crore if children were also accompanying the passengers abroad'. In India, the ED said, multiple FIRs have been registered against Patel in Gujarat, Delhi and West Bengal. The 'Proceeds of Crime (POC) generated in this case are valued at Rs 7 crore (approx)', said the ED. Further investigation into the matter is under progress.

Karnataka IPS officer Srinath Joshi threatened victims to extort money, used code ‘kg' for lakh in chats with dismissed cop: Lokayukta
The Karnataka Lokayukta said on Thursday that senior IPS officer Srinath Mahadev Joshi had been in touch with G Ningappa, a former head constable arrested for allegedly extorting Rs 4.92 crore from government officials by posing as a Lokayukta officer. 'Joshi was in touch with Ningappa and was involved in threatening government officials and to extort money. They used the code word 'kg' and in the preliminary probe, it has been revealed. The collected black money was being converted to white money by investing in cryptocurrency,' the anti-corruption watchdog said in a statement. A police officer said that 'kg' referred to lakhs. Lokayukta said Joshi was involved in extortion and exchanged related WhatsApp messages with Ningappa, also known as Ningappa Sawanth. According to the Lokayukta, Ningappa, had 23 cryptocurrency wallets and Rs 4.92 crore was invested in 13 wallets. On June 15, Joshi's house was searched after the Lokayukta police secured a warrant from the court, the statement said. He was a superintendent of police in the Lokayukta until June 12. The Lokayukta also said that there were no complaints from outside (government officials or private persons) but that the case was registered when the Lokayukta chief got to know about the extortion. Ningappa was arrested in the case on June 2. He has been released on bail. The Karnataka High Court has ordered an interim stay on the investigation against Joshi and Ningappa in the extortion case. On June 30, the Lokayukta police approached the high court seeking permission to continue their investigation against Joshi and Ningappa, citing public concern over the credibility of the institution. On Thursday, Justice S R Krishna Kumar of the high court posted the matter to Tuesday. Thirty-five cases have been registered at various police stations where Ningappa allegedly approached government officials, mainly from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the excise department, with extortion demands. Ningappa used the names not only of Lokayukta police officers but also of the Lokayukta and the Upa Lokayukta, the anti-corruption watchdog suspects. Ningappa is accused of calling government officials over the phone to extort money ranging from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.
