SHAH ALAM – The main suspect in the murder of a female university student in Cyberjaya is believed to have entered her condominium unit using an access card and keys provided by his girlfriend.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed that the suspect is the boyfriend of one of the three women who were previously arrested in connection with the case.
'The access card and keys to the unit were handed over directly by the suspect's girlfriend. We do not rule out the possibility that the suspect had malicious intent toward the victim.
'At the time of the incident, the victim was living alone as her housemates had returned to their hometowns for the semester break,' he said during a press conference at the Selangor Police Headquarters on Tuesday. Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan
The 20-year-old victim, a Bachelor of Physiotherapy student at a private university, had been staying alone in the unit after her housemates went home for the holidays.
'The suspect is believed to have struck the victim with an object, causing injuries that led to her death,' he added.
Addressing speculation that the victim may have been sexually assaulted, Hussein clarified that the pathologist's report did not find any evidence of rape.
However, police are continuing their investigation to determine whether any form of assault took place.
Following the incident, the suspect is believed to have attempted to cover his tracks by disposing of the victim's belongings.
'He threw away her mobile phone and disposed of her laptop, keys and access card. Police have since recovered several of these items,' Hussein said.
He added that police are finalising the investigation and will submit the case to the Deputy Public Prosecutor soon.
The three women previously arrested, including the main suspect's girlfriend, a friend of the victim who lived in the unit above, and another woman who was with the suspect during an ATM withdrawal, are still assisting police with their inquiries.
The case came to light after the victim's body was found in her condominium unit in Cyberjaya at 10.28am last Tuesday. The murder was reportedly solved within 48 hours following the arrest of four suspects, one man and three women.
It was also reported that the main suspect used the victim's ATM card to withdraw RM200 shortly after the incident.
Sepang District Police Chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman previously confirmed that the arrests were made between Thursday morning and early Friday in Johor Bahru and Gemencheh, Negeri Sembilan, by teams from Bukit Aman, the Selangor Police Headquarters and the Sepang District Police.

Petronas Gas reaffirms commitment to safety after release of probe findings
Petronas Gas Bhd said since the April 1 pipeline explosion in Putra Heights, the firm had worked to ensure public safety, support the impacted community, and maintain gas supply continuity in the country. (Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : Petronas Gas Bhd has reaffirmed its commitment to ensure the safety of the nation's gas transmission system following the findings released by the relevant authorities over the April 1 Putra Heights pipeline explosion and blaze. In a statement, Petronas Gas reiterated its commitment to full transparency, continuous improvement and collaboration with the special task force and relevant authorities, as well as support for those affected by the incident. 'This incident is unprecedented in the history of our gas transmission system, and we fully recognise the public concerns surrounding the safety of the pipeline system, especially with the continuity of gas flow through the network,' it said. It added that since the incident, the firm had worked to ensure public safety, support the impacted community, and maintain gas supply continuity across the country. Petronas Gas also said the Peninsular Gas Utilisation (PGU) system was designed with multiple layers of safety and resilience, underpinned by over three decades of engineering and operational experience. Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said yesterday investigations found no evidence of foul play, sabotage, or negligence in the April 1 blast. However, a special task force will be formed to determine responsibility and subsequent actions. The department of occupational safety and health (DOSH), which led the technical investigation into the incident, had said certain segments of the pipeline gave way because of cyclic loading and insufficient support from the ground underneath. DOSH petroleum safety division director Husdin Che Amat said this was mainly caused by unstable ground conditions, leading to the physical failures at parts of the pipe, which then led to a gas leak and the blaze. He also said that Petronas had identified other parts of its gas pipeline network that might be affected by the same issue, and that the agency had discussed with the firm the short- and long-term actions and measures that needed to be taken. The blaze on April 1 saw flames soaring over 30m high with temperatures reaching up to 1,000 degree Celsius. There were no fatalities, but 150 victims had to seek treatment at hospitals.

SHAH ALAM: Police have shut down two drug-processing laboratories in a major crackdown on a syndicate producing ecstasy-laced juice, seizing narcotics worth RM5.03 million. The raids, conducted on June 26 in Ampang, Selangor, and Pandan Perdana, Kuala Lumpur, led to the arrest of 13 suspects. Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan revealed that the syndicate had been active since December last year. The group operated from terrace houses, processing MDMA (methylenedioxymethamphetamine) to be mixed into juice drinks before distribution. 'Four additional raids in shopping centre and condominium parking lots uncovered 1,510 boxes and 728 bottles of suspected MDMA-laced juice, weighing 689.42 kg,' Hussein said. Other seized items included MDMA powder (1.68 kg), ketamine (25.4 kg), ecstasy pills (5.3 kg), and Erimin 5 pills (0.726 kg). Nine of the 13 suspects tested positive for ketamine, meth, and benzodiazepines. Two had prior criminal records under the Open Gambling Houses Act 1953 and Immigration Act 1959.
