MURDERBOT Season Finale Recap: (S01E10) The Perimeter

We open with Murderbot (Alexander Skarsgård) waking up after a system reboot. It peers up at two engineers, wondering where its clients are, before said engineers purge its memories. Meanwhile, Mensah (Noma Dumezweni), Gurathin (David Dastmalchian), Pin-Lee (Sabrina Wu), Bharadwaj (Tamara Podemski) and Arada (Tattiawna Jones) demand to know where SecUnit is. We see our PresAux crew is back at Port FreeCommerce with all the Corporation Rim f*ckers. The reps inform them that Seccy's location is none of their business. Sue Them Into Oblivion
Mensah reminds the Company employees that they provided materials and transportation to GrayCris, who slaughtered the DeltFall crew and tried to kill PresAux. The Company has remained awfully quiet about that fact. Mensah hints at disclosing this information to, well, everyone. One rep counters that there's an NDA clause in every liability agreement. Pin-Lee goes into lawyer mode, insisting that this won't hold up due to the extraordinary nature of the situation.

Then, the Company lawyer (Neil Whitely) declares that the Company doesn't admit to any wrongdoing 'connected to the incident on Planetary body 898/8712.' Elsewhere, the engineers get SecUnit to perform various commands, including crying like a baby. A Company rep stops them, citing that Seccy must venture out into the station to do its job.
Negotiations continue as Mensah orders the Company reps to address her as 'Madam President.' That's my president. The Company asserts that SecUnit is no longer part of the PresAux crew. Mensah counters that, at the very least, Seccy is a material witness to what transpired during the expedition. The lawyer replies that SecUnit is a recording device, at best. Pin-Lee fires back that all the reason for them to see SecUnit — to access evidence. In Conflict
Gurathin declares the group will purchase SecUnit. One Company rep insists that it's expensive. Well, so is the massive lawsuit Pin-Lee plans to bring against the Company. Pin-Lee states they'll take SecUnit and half of the Company. Oof.

The lawyer claims they can offer our crew a better SecUnit, but not Seccy. Then, he tells Mensah that they discovered that SecUnit had a faulty governor module. Was she aware of this? Mensah remains silent. If the group witnessed abnormal behavior but refused to disclose it, this would conflict with their contract.
Next, our heroes learn that Seccy has a new governor module, and its memories have been erased. Elsewhere, Ratthi (Akshay Khanna) runs into the new but not improved SecUnit as it marches alongside other SecUnits toward a protest. Ratthi greets it; however, it doesn't remember him. After this, Ratthi relays what he witnessed to the gang in their apartment. Mensah insists that there's no way Seccy's data has been erased. Removed, sure, but not erased. Gurathin explains that the Company is sifting through its proprietary data. If they find anything of monetary value, they'll keep it.

Mensah urges Pin-Lee to continue with their court injunction against the Company. Ratthi persuades Gurathin that they should try to save SecUnit, no matter the cost. At the same time, strikers and police clash during the protest. Those on strike simply want better pay, equal rights and food to put on the table for their families. Understandable.
SecUnit and its team descend upon the protestors. It grabs one man's hand and breaks it. During this act of violence, it recalls the massacre it committed in the mining facility. Those violent flashbacks have returned. Seccy glitches and freezes as the protestors kick its sentient construct ass. It understands that violence is morally bad. Downloading Data
Later, Gurathin reunites with his ex-dealer, Landers (Sergio Di Zio). Gurathin insists he's not there for a fix. However, Gura knows that Landers has access to SecUnit purged data. Landers apologizes for making Gurathin addicted to drugs — he thought our fave augmented human could handle drugs tailored to be highly addictive.

Next, Gura taps into the Company's system. It claims there haven't been any recent SecUnit memory purges. Landers states that he won't find anything because it's all encrypted. However, Gura knows something that Landers doesn't: SecUnit loves downloading premium, quality entertainment.
So, Gurathin searches for data on The Rise & Fall of Sanctuary Moon . He discovers thousands of downloads, all of which tie back to our titular bot. Bingpot! Meanwhile, Mensah and Bharadwaj speak to the press about what they experienced during their expedition. Mensah explains that GrayCris inserted combat override modules into DeltFall's SecUnits to make them go rogue and kill, kill, kill. Then, Mensah credits Seccy for saving their lives. Mensah expects SecUnit to play an integral role in the ongoing investigation into the GrayCris/DeltFall/Company mess.

Elsewhere, Company reps prepare to melt SecUnit. After all, it failed to subdue the protestors. I'll never get used to seeing the Ken doll mound on Seccy. Thankfully, Pin-Lee and Ratthi save SecUnit before it's liquefied. Pin-Lee presents their injunction against destroying SecUnit.
After this, SecUnit reunites with the PresAux crew. It doesn't recognize any of them. Gurathin returns and plugs into Seccy to transfer all its data and memories. Mensah excitedly tells SecUnit that she will be its guardian. It will accompany them back to the Preservation Alliance. There, it can do whatever it wants. SecUnit asks if it can wear its armor. Instead, the gang dresses it in some new threads.

Next, it watches from afar as various solicitors from DeltFall, the Company and beyond meet with the PresAux crew. Even GrayCris' parent company paid a visit. Presumably, for them to buy SecUnit and/or the lawsuit. Then, they all celebrate with food and drinks, toasting to SecUnit's new life. Seccy looks lost.
That evening, SecUnit tries to leave while they're all asleep. Gurathin wakes up, though, to ask it where it's going. Seccy wants to survey the perimeter, as per usual. Gura insists it'll adjust to life in the Preservation Alliance. Everything will work out. SecUnit tells Gura it wants to survey the perimeter. Gura understands, his eyes welling with tears. SecUnit wanders through Port FreeCommerce. It notices the next departure is a bot-driven transport ship bound for a distant mining facility. It surreptitiously swipes someone's bag before changing into a mining uniform. Then, Mensah wakes up. She watches as Murderbot departs on the transport ship. She weeps.
SecUnit claims it doesn't know what it wants, but it knows it doesn't want to be told what to do — even by its favorite human (Mensah). It smiles as the ship speeds away.
Murderbot is now streaming on Apple TV+.

‘Chief of War,' and 7 More Shows to Watch on TV This Week
Between streaming and cable, there is a seemingly endless variety of things to watch. Here is a selection of TV shows and specials that are airing or streaming this week, July 28-Aug 3. Details and times are subject to change. Fictionalized struggles. The unification of the Hawaiian islands that took place during the late 1700s and early 1800s was defined by tribal warfare, political strife and fears of Western colonization. The new fictional drama, 'Chief of War,' takes a different approach than past retellings of the story — this time interpreting it through the lens of Polynesian people in a production made by people of Polynesian descent that uses their language. Jason Momoa, who was born in Hawaii and whose father was a native Hawaiian, stars as Ka'iana, a real-life warrior who has been both lauded and criticized by historians. Along with Ka'iana and his personal struggles, the show follows King Kamehameha (the first ruler and conqueror of Hawaii, played by Kaina Makua), who is driven by the mission to unify the islands of Hawai'i, Maui, O'ahu and Kaua'i. The first two of nine episodes will air this week, with new episodes dropping weekly after the premiere. Streaming Friday on Apple TV+. Documented strife. On Aug. 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina made landfall in Southeast Louisiana and, combined with subsequent flooding, caused 1,392 fatalities and $125 billion in damages, particularly to the New Orleans area. Almost 20 years later, the new documentary series 'Hurricane Katrina: Race Against Time' doesn't seek to provide any new or groundbreaking information; instead it serves as a reminder of all the lessons that can be learned about weather catastrophes for the future. Over five episodes, New Orleans residents, from the 9th Ward, Algiers and Tremé, tell the story of their experiences, minute by minute. Streaming Monday on Hulu and Disney+. In December 2000, Mike Williams went missing in Jackson County, Florida after participating in an early morning duck hunting trip. Initially police speculated that Williams had drowned and was eaten by alligators. Seventeen years later, Brian Winchester, who had eventually married Williams's widow, Denise, (they had been having an affair at the time) confessed to killing his best friend in an elaborate scheme the two had planned. The four-part documentary series 'Mr. & Mrs. Murder' explores the case. Streaming Wednesday on Hulu. The Birmingham City Football Club was founded in 1875 and has seen its share of changes throughout the years. 'Built in Birmingham: Brady & the Blues' embeds film crews with the team to follow the players, coaches, owners and Tom Brady, who has a minority stake. The documentary series follows the day-to-day operations of the British soccer team and examines its cultural significance to the city of Birmingham. Streaming Friday on Prime Video. Alien: Earth is one of my five must-see TV shows in August
August is, famously, when the summer movie season starts to draw to a close. Thankfully, TV doesn't have those same lull periods, meaning that there's plenty to look forward to on the small screen in the month of August. I'm particularly excited about Alien: Earth, which will be the first TV show in the Alien franchise and also the first thing in this universe to be set on Earth. Alien: Earth is far from the only thing to be excited about in August, though. Here are five shows I'm particularly looking forward to watching. Chief of War (August 1) This Apple TV+ original is another partnership between Jason Momoa and the studio. This time, Momoa plays a Hawaiian war chief tasked with uniting the tribes of the disparate islands so that they can face off with the colonizers who are threatening their way of life. Recommended Videos The show's cast is composed almost entirely of native Hawaiian actors, and it could be a fascinating look at a part of America that many Americans don't spend much time thinking about. Hopefully, it's a little bit better than See. Chief of War will be available on Apple TV+. Wednesday season 2, Part 1 (August 6) Wednesday was a phenomenon following its first season, and this follow-up is will try to recapture that same enthusiasm. The show, a twist on The Addams Family, primarily follows their daughter, Wednesday, as she is shipped off to boarding school and must make her way through regular teenage life. The show made a star out of Jenna Ortega, and season 2 promises to be even bigger and more star-studded than the first installment. Whether that means it will be better is anyone's guess. Wednesday will be available on Netflix. Alien: Earth (August 12) One of the great mysteries this summer is Alien: Earth, which brings the xenomorph to Earth for the very first time. Plus, the Alien franchise makes its debut on television. While it seems impossible to live up to the best of what this franchise can offer, Alien: Earth will follow a young woman who joins up with a group of tactical soldiers to investigate the crash of a space vessel onto Earth. What they find (which is probably an alien) is left a mystery, but Alien: Earth could expand on the world of the Alien movies in fascinating ways, even if it's not quite as good as that first movie. Alien: Earth will be available on Hulu. Peacemaker season 2 (August 21) Following the success of Supermanin theaters, interest in the new DCU has never been higher. Peacemaker season 2 may reveal more about where this universe is headed, but just as importantly, it will hopefully be an excellent continuation of the show's remarkable first season. The brilliance of John Cena's central performance is worth plenty of praise, but James Gunn managed to find exactly the right supporting cast to put around him. Here's hoping the lore of the DCU doesn't overwhelm a character that's at his best when he's ignoring the rules altogether. Peacemaker will be available on HBO Max. Eyes of Wakanda (August 27) While the DCU might emerge as a real threat to Marvel's supremacy, Eyes of Wakanda could be proof that Marvel still has a few cards left to play. This animated series seems like it will be largely disconnected from the rest of the MCU, as it tells the story of Wakandan warriors who travel around the world to recover vibranium artifacts. The animation looks beautiful, and Ryan Coogler's involvement is a good sign that this show will be a reflection of the Wakanda we've fallen in love with on the big screen. Eyes of Wakanda will be available on Disney+.

'We're not in Richmond anymore': What we know about 'Ted Lasso' Season 4
Believe it — Season 4 of Ted Lasso has officially begun production, Apple TV+ announced this week. That's right, Coach Lasso, the show's beloved mustachioed and mild-mannered namesake, who helped guide audiences through a global pandemic with optimism and humanity, is back on the football pitch. Well, this calls for biscuits. Filming has officially kicked off in star Jason Sudeikis's (Ted Lasso) hometown of Kansas City, Mo. Mayor Quinton Lucas called it 'another major victory for the city's rapidly expanding film industry,' in a post on X, in which he appears to be sporting a blue Ted Lasso hat. Additional filming is also set to take place across the pond in London. Apple TV posted a video on Instagram of Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins), Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton), Juno Temple (Keeley Jones) and Sudeikis are sitting in what appears to be a booth at a traditional American restaurant as some of the key members of AFC Richmond get ready to film a scene. The caption reads: 'We're not in Richmond anymore. Ted Lasso Season 4 is now in production.' The streaming service confirmed back in March that there would be a fourth season. The show has won 13 Emmy Awards and has received a total of 61 Emmy nominations. Barbecue sauce. What can fans expect in Season 4? At the end of Season 3, Ted ends up returning to the U.S. after coaching the fictional AFC Richmond soccer team in London in order to be closer to his son, Henry. The streaming service indicates on its website what fans can expect in the highly anticipated new season: 'Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women's football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.' Do we know when Season 4 will be released or if there's an official trailer? So far, Apple TV+ says a release date for Season 4 is coming soon. No official trailer has been released yet, aside from this week's teaser. Which characters will return? Even though they're not pictured in the promo image, the wise Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) and Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) will be back. Grant Feely will replace Gus Turner as Ted's son, Henry. Other newcomers to join the cast in roles that have yet to be revealed include: Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey and Abbie Hern. Who is not returning? Fan favorites like Nick Mohammed (Nate Shelley) and Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt) along with Sarah Niles (Dr. Sharon Fieldstone), Anthony Head (Rupert Mannion), Toheeb Jimoh (Sam Obisanya), James Lance (Trent Crimm), Cristo Fernández (Dani Rojas), Kola Bokinni (Isaac McAdoo) and Billy Harris (Colin Hughes) weren't named as regular returning characters in Season 4.
