29-year-old Yusuf Maart will stay on at Chiefs and play a vital role in their midfield, according to local reports from @UnplayableZA on X. Since arriving from Sekhukhune in July 2022, Maart has been a near ever-present in the Amakhosi engine room. Last season, he made 27 appearances in the league.
25-year-old Angolan striker Laurindo Dilson Maria Aurélio, commonly known as Depú, got zero goals and one assist in 24 league games in Serbia last season. Not the most mind-blowing record. He did, however, excel for Angola in a recent Cosafa Cup match against Bafana.

As you'll know by now, Chiefs are heading to the land of Dennis Bergkamp, Virgil van Dijk and Wesley Sneijder for their European pre-season tour adventure. The Glamour Boys jet out on 03 July and conclude the tour on 19 July. It should be a fun fortnight! George Matlou, somewhat surprisingly, will be on the flight. Young holding midfielder Thulani Mabaso will also be there; the left-footed player has impressed the technical team.

The 2025/26 season has officially kicked off, with the MTN8 taking centre stage this weekend. The top eight teams from last season are looking to begin their campaigns on a high note, with early silverware up for grabs. However, for the second season running, one of South African football's biggest names — Kaizer Chiefs — will once again watch from the sidelines after narrowly missing out on a top-eight finish, ending the last campaign in ninth position. Chiefs, however, ended last season on a positive note, lifting the Nedbank Cup. That triumph not only secured them a return to continental football via the CAF Confederation Cup, but also reignited belief within the club heading into this campaign. The squad rebuild under new coach Nasreddine Nabi now moves into a critical phase, where visible improvement and consistency must replace last season's instability. Much of their previous struggles were self-inflicted. Defensive lapses, an inability to hold onto leads, and poor execution in key moments proved costly. Injuries, particularly at the back, also disrupted their campaign. But with the injection of new talent and a fresh sense of direction, there is renewed hope that this season could mark a turning point.

'Spurs legend' Son Heung-min to leave Tottenham this summer after decade

The 33-year-old attacker joined the Premier League side from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and went on to play more than 450 times for Spurs. In May he lifted the Europa League trophy but he had a poor season overall by his high standards and struggled with a series of leg injuries. "Before we start the press conference I wanted to say I have decided to leave the club this summer," the South Korean told reporters in Seoul, where Tottenham are on a pre-season tour. "Respectfully the club is helping me with this decision." Son, who has scored 173 goals for Spurs, did not say where he intends to go next and cut an emotional figure. He has been linked with a move to the MLS in the United States. "It was the most difficult decision I have made in my career. Such amazing memories. It was so hard to make the decision," Son said, flanked by new Tottenham boss Thomas Frank. "I need a new environment to push myself. I need a little bit of change - 10 years is a long time. I came to north London as a kid, 23 years old, such a young age. "I leave this club as a grown man, a very proud man." Speaking in Korean, Son said that winning a European trophy - Tottenham's first European crown in 41 years - played "a big part" in his thinking. "Winning a title in Europe felt like I had achieved everything I possibly could," he said. "I spent a lot of time reflecting on whether I wanted to experience football in a different environment, and I had those conversations with myself over and over again." Frank, who joined Spurs from Brentford in June, paid tribute to the South Korean skipper. "For me, personally, I would have loved to have worked with this fantastic person and player," said the Dane, who took over from the sacked Ange Postecoglou. "He is a true Spurs legend in every aspect, one of the greatest players to play in the Premier League." Spurs will face Newcastle United on Sunday in Seoul, and Son is guaranteed a rapturous reception in front of his home fans. Spurs have had a fairly quiet summer in the transfer market so far, with attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus from West Ham their only major acquisition. Losing Dortley in March was a massive blow as the youngster needed surgery. We could see him back in action near the start of the 2025-2026 campaign. That would feel like a new signing for the fans. Dortley quickly became a key pillar in the defence, making 21 appearances across all competitions before being struck down. The technical team will need to be cautious when they reintroduce him to the fold after such a lengthy layoff, but it's undoubtedly a huge plus to see him on the comeback trail.
