Bryson DeChambeau Hides 'Personal' Message Amid Ryder Cup Confirmation

Bryson DeChambeau wrapped up "a very emotional week" at Royal Portrush with a final-round of 64 that featured a no-bogey round including seven birdies.
Though his Open result didn't match the flashes of brilliance he showed at Augusta or Quail Hollow earlier this season, the YouTube sensation might have been the happiest LIV golfer leaving Northern Ireland.

DeChambeau, currently sitting fifth in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings, entered The Open knowing it was his last opportunity to earn qualifying points as a LIV member. A slip from the top six would force him to rely on a captain's pick.
But it seems he has little to worry about his Bethpage Black qualification now.
In a conversation with Sports Illustrated's Bob Harig, Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley confirmed that DeChambeau will be a crucial part of Team USA's lineup for September's battle against Luke Donald's Ryder Cup team.
"Bryson is going to be a very important piece to us winning the Ryder Cup," the captain shared with Sports Illustrated via text on Sunday night. "He brings so much. He brings energy, passion, but most importantly, he's one of the best players on the planet."
That news broke just hours after DeChambeau revealed he'd received a personal message from Bradley in the locker room, a quiet, powerful gesture that already signaled his confirmed place.

After his bogey-free rounds, the LIV Golf pro was asked a lot of questions during the post-round press conference, including whether he had received any messages from the captain.
"I talked with him briefly, and then he put something in our lockers that was pretty inspirational," DeChambeau told reporters.
When asked to reveal the message, he denied it, stating via SI, "It's a personal message."
He added, "It meant a lot. This year's no joke. We're tired of it. We're tired of losing."
It wasn't the first time Bradley reached out to DeChambeau.
Earlier this season, he hosted a team dinner in Philadelphia. DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka were the only two LIV golfers invited. Though DeChambeau couldn't attend in person, he joined virtually and remained engaged with the leadership process.
The 31-year-old was left off the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome, where Team USA fell to Europe at Marco Simone. But he competed in both 2018 (Paris) and 2021 (Whistling Straits), with the latter ending in a dominant American win.
Now, for Bethpage Black, DeChambeau is looking forward to repeating history.
"We have the most wins on tour right now as the Crushers," he stated with confidence during the press conference on Sunday.
"It's been so much fun playing with Paul (Casey), Anirban (Lahiri), and Charles (Howell III). The way I've personally led my team is I've let them be their individual self, their best individual self. ... That's how I learned from team golf is let the individual be the best individual they can possibly be to add to the team. That's it. Don't try to put someone in a bubble and say you need to do this, you need to do that."

Sorry Smith stat as LIV date locked
Cameron Smith could be playing for much-needed ranking points when LIV returns to Adelaide in 2026, with a February date locked in for the second year after a timeslot shift in 2025 proved a monster success. More than 100,000 people attended The Grange this year after the tournament was moved from April and is so far the only confirmed schedule stop for the Saudi-backed tour. It could be too long to wait for Smith to feel some good Aussie vibes, however, with his 2025 in freefall after missing the cut at The Open at Royal Portrush. The 2022 Open champion became the only player to miss the cut in all four majors in 2025 after failing to reach the weekend and has now missed five major cuts in a row. Once No.2 in the world, Smith's ranking has dropped to 206, with questions being asked about the impact of his move to LIV, for which he was paid a reported $140m. His LIV teammate and great friend, Marc Leishman, jumped more than 50 places after being the only Australian to make the cut in Northern Ireland. The appearances of the LIV stars at The Open came amid revelations officials had put in a second application for world ranking points in the hope their players could get more access to the majors. It could also help players like Smith put himself in the frame for a Presidents Cup return as well as help American and European players get back on to Ryder Cup teams. Smith conceded 2025 had been 'frustrating' without a LIV win, or a podium finish, but was adamant he had been putting in the work and his best was 'coming'. 'It's such a weird game sometimes,' he said. 'I feel like I've been playing really good and not really getting much out of my golf, which is quite the opposite to how I normally play golf, so it's been a really frustrating year. 'Everything feels good, particularly on the range, on the putting green and stuff like that. I just have struggled to take it to the course and I feel like it's coming out. 'I feel like I'm getting more confidence and committing to more shots and maybe hitting the shot that I don't necessarily feel comfortable with, but the right shot. 'So that's when I play my best and, yeah, it's coming.' Smith tasted success in Adelaide in 2024, taking the team title, which helped elevate the event. 'Adelaide has been our pinnacle event with LIV Golf for the past few years, and it's always special going home and having our Aussie crowd behind us – they've been great to us, he said. 'The event keeps getting better every year and we are so excited to know we'll be coming back for many years to come. We can't wait for this year's event in Adelaide, which I'm sure next year will be even bigger.'

Lowered Cap Increase Could Lead To Heightened Draft Pick Value In 2026
NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JUNE 25: Commissioner Adam Silver poses with 2025 NBA Draft Prospects prior to ... More the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft at Barclays Center on June 25, 2025 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agrees that, by downloading and/or using this photograph, user is consenting to the terms and conditions of the Getty Images License Agreement. (Photo by) Getty Images As the NBA's salary cap projections for the 2026-2027 season has been lowered, with the 10% increase now projected as just a 7% increase, it raises questions in regards to the ripple effect such an event would cause. One element that could be influenced by the change is the value of draft picks. Set salaries Rookie contracts have been set for decades, at a significantly lower price tag than established contracts, and the main key is the long-term security, particularly among first-round selections, where teams have four years of team control. In a financial situation, where teams will now have less flexibility, the value of draft picks could be set at a premium, especially by teams closing in on the first or second apron. It makes sense, given the aforementioned longevity of the contracts. Even Cooper Flagg, the top pick of the 2025 NBA Draft, is only making 8.9% of the salary cap in his first year, a percentage that doesn't dramatically change over the course of four years. There is a reasonable chance that Flagg, viewed as a generational talent, is going to make an All-Star team, perhaps several, during that four-year span, which means the Mavericks, by all intents and purposes, would have one of the best contracts on their hand. That's the type of value teams would love to acquire, and that's doable even without the element of a generational player. Say a team picks at 15th, right in the middle of the first round, as the Oklahoma City Thunder did in the draft last month. They picked Thomas Sorber, who will earn just 3.0% of the salary cap this season, and again, that percentage won't dramatically change during his initial contract. If teams get even a backup level played at that spot, that's easily a win at just three percent of the cap, meaning value isn't exclusively tied to players nearing stardom. Major value Due to the above, teams willing to fork over picks next summer could ask for the moon in return. The argument they can make is fairly simple. "The cap didn't jump the full 10% as expected, so you have less money to work with. We can help with that." It's a bargaining tactic, and it's a genuine benefit for a costly team. One scenario that mid-tier teams, selecting in the late lottery stage, should look for is expensive teams giving up future picks, unprotected, in order to help their books immediately. If a team nearing the second apron prioritize a cost-controlled asset, the trading team will have every right to ask for a pick with little to no protection as compensation, as they'll be fully aware of the benefits of having cheap production. We'll see how it all ends up working out, but teams that are significantly below the apron levels, and who aren't in a rush, could in theory make out like bandits in about 11 months.
