BBC report concludes some stars ‘behave unacceptably'
The BBC-commissioned report interviewed 2,500 of the corporation's staff members. It found that overall, the institution does not have a toxic work culture, but that there was 'a minority of people who behave unacceptably and whose behaviour is not addressed'. The review blasted the Beeb for showing 'inconsistent execution when it comes to dealing with poor performance and bad behaviour' and remarked that authors had heard 'examples of well-known names not being held to account for poor behaviour'. It added:
These people work in both on and off-air roles, dotted across the organisation in different functions and departments. They are often in positions where power could be abused. Even though they are small in number, their behaviour creates large ripples which negatively impact the BBC's culture and external reputation.
Lovely! The review went on to note: 'We also heard of 'untouchables' who work behind the camera or microphone. The perception was that senior management would turn an eye to poor behaviours when productions were award-winning or attracting large audiences.' How very upstanding, eh?
The latest report comes 12 years after a previous review after the Jimmy Savile scandal, which itself concluded there was a 'strong undercurrent of fear' at the organisation when it came to tackling bullying. In the last year, further complaints about BBC stars including Russell Brand and ex-Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood prompted the Beeb's execs to apologise to staff – while allegations involving former presenter Jermaine Jenas and Masterchef co-host Gregg Wallace made headlines. The much-scrutinised organisation says it will introduce reforms to tackle bad behaviour – including an improved disciplinary policy, code of conduct and complaint mechanisms – with chairman Samir Shah insisting he would draw 'a line in the sand'. BBC star announces death of dad and shares final moments
BBC star Nina Warhurst has shared the poignant loss of her father in a heartfelt tribute, revealing his battle with dementia. The 44 year old journalist, who anchors BBC's News at One live from Salford, took to Instagram on Sunday (July 6) to announce the sombre news to her 46.7k followers, posting an evocative black and white image of her clasping her dad's hand. In a deeply moving message, she recounted their final moments together, filled with emotion and family memories. "My Dad died on Wednesday night," she wrote. "From Sunday me, my Mum and sisters spent precious time with him around the crying, laughing, sharing memories. "On his last day we had nursing home afternoon tea, chippy chips and wine together," reports the Manchester Evening News. "He drifted away gently with me and Amy holding him and telling him to "go head. We'll see you there soon. And he did. I had my hand on his heart as the ripples softened and stopped. "A gentle end to a gentle life. So much love and laughter and sunshine across days I'll never forget." Nina reflected further: "He is in my mind all the time now as we adjust to a world without him in it. I can't quite accept that's real yet. But we think it's really important for anyone going through this to know that the end can be peaceful and beautiful. "Kim, Daniel, Anna, Moody, Charlotte, Clara, Eddie, Obi, Sarah, Kat, Michael, Colin, Dorothy, Helen, Gracie and all the care home staff and residents who welcomed us in to their world and made it our home for those days and nights we can't thank you enough." Nina received an outpouring of support from her followers, as well as friends and family, in the comments section. Her sister Amy commented: "It was beautiful. Aren't we lucky? Love you Nines x." A follower shared their empathy, saying: "Nina, I'm so sorry. My mum had Alzheimer's and died in similar circumstances with us all around her. He will always be with you. I will never forget the kindness of the care home staff to the whole family, looking after all of us throughout my mum's illness. They really do not get enough credit for what they do. Take care of yourself and your family." Another sympathised: "Oh Nina I'm so sorry for your loss. You gave him a beautiful send off and were with him as he passed and that means so much. Thinking of you and all the family so much xxx."

While it was assumed he had died of cancer, Croft revealed he had actually died of sepsis, which she says may have been caused by a tumour that was perforated while on a flight back from Portugal. Opening up on her husband's death, Croft said: "I have traumatic flashbacks of the day Mel died. During his final hours, as he drifted in and out of consciousness, he started listing instructions like, 'Change the tyre on the van' and then saying to the children, 'Sorry I can't be there for your weddings.' "That memory breaks my heart. After Mel died, it didn't feel real, but as though he was away on a trip and would reappear. Weirdly, the pain of grief feels like it's growing, rather than easing, because of the realisation that he's not coming back.'
