Oppo Find X8 Ultra Trims Camera Bump And Yet Retains Four 50MP Cameras

The Oppo Find X8 Pro is one of the slimmest camera-centric phones on the market. Like its predecessor, you get two periscope cameras for 3x and 6x optical zoom, as well as two 50MP main and ultrawide cameras. This is accompanied by a flagship chipset and a 6,100mAh battery.
Fantastic optical zoom on cameras? Check. Great display? Check. Flagship processor to power it all? Check. Huge battery to keep it running? Check. It ticks all the right boxes and makes me wish it were available to a wider consumer base with a global launch.
Oppo has worked on minimizing its camera module width so it doesn't protrude as much as the Find X7 Ultra or the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. Make no mistake, it isn't a compact device. At 226 grams and 8.78mm thickness, it's on par with the Galaxy S25 Ultra but packs over-the-top cameras. Personally, I don't mind the camera module protrusion if it allows for bigger sensors. Oppo's slight compromise results in a smaller camera bump and a more pocketable phone.

What I do mind is the lack of personality. Both the Oppo Find X6 Ultra and Find X7 Ultra had a dual-tone finish where half the phone featured a faux leather back. By contrast, the Find X8 Ultra looks like just another Oppo phone. It comes in gorgeous finishes, and I love the light pink hue on my Shell Pink variant. But in a bid to make a 'normal-looking' Ultra phone, Oppo has let go of its signature design.
That said, the matte finish is easy to hold and comfortable to use. It isn't slippery, and I would gladly use it without a case. However, it is prone to scratches, which aren't always visible unless light hits at a certain angle. It's rated IP68 for dust and water resistance, as well as IP69 for resistance against high-pressure water spray.

On the front, you get a sharp 6.82-inch AMOLED LTPO display with QHD resolution at 510 pixels per inch (ppi). If you want a portable screen to watch movies and videos, this is it. It's a vibrant display with thin bezels that add to the immersive feel when consuming content. The screen is rated to deliver up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness outdoors, and I haven't had any legibility issues in direct sunlight.
The Oppo Find X8 Ultra continues to have two periscope zoom cameras. It sports a 50MP 1-inch-type primary main sensor, a 50MP periscope camera with 3x optical zoom, another 50MP periscope camera for 6x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide-angle sensor. Oppo has worked on its color tuning to offer more natural color rendering with True Chroma Camera tech.

The 3x and 6x zoom systems are the stars of the pack. They offer good natural blur and excellent shadow detail. Photos clicked at up to 30x zoom are sharper than the competition—less noisy and more social media–friendly.
Both cameras capture good-looking portraits, and similar to the Find X8 Pro, you get several photo modes like Stage, Silhouette, and Fireworks for a customized look. One standout feature of the 6x lens is its ability to keep video footage more stable than its predecessor, which is also among the best on an Ultra phone.
My only complaint is with the primary camera, which can be unreliable. The images look great for the most part, but there are times when skin tones are messed up after processing. I faced a similar issue on the Find X8 Pro and the X7 Ultra last year.

The Oppo Find X8 Ultra is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. It runs ColorOS 15 based on Android 15. I love the snappy UI and smooth animations on offer here. Throw whatever task you want, and the Find X8 Ultra nails it. However, I noticed it getting warm to the touch when shooting photos outdoors, in the Delhi heat.
The Oppo Find X8 Ultra packs a massive 6,100mAh silicon-carbon battery, which supports 100W fast charging and 50W wireless charging. In my usage, it went from 25% to 100% within 35 minutes. It's efficient, too—it easily lasts an entire day.
The Oppo Find X8 Ultra is priced at 6,499 CNY (approx. $884) for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant and goes up to 7,999 CNY (approx. $1,088) for the 16GB RAM + 1TB storage model. It is only available in China right now, with no information on a global rollout.

Samsung Galaxy S25 FE just tipped for a surprising Ultra-level upgrade
A new report has revealed that the next phone in Samsung's affordable FE series, the Galaxy S25 FE, might feature one advantage over the Galaxy S25. With Galaxy Unpacked having come and gone, you might think Samsung's big phone launches are done for the year. However, the Galaxy S25 FE is expected for release later this year, and while the FE series often features slightly worse hardware, a new report has indicated a substantial charging upgrade for the phone. According to a report from SammyGuru, device quality and safety testers TUV Rheinland have published a listing with the model number SM-S731, which is believed to refer to the Galaxy S25 FE. While the listing in question contains few hardware details, there is one thing of note: the apparent confirmation of 45W charging speeds for the phone. This would mean that the cheaper Galaxy S25 FE would match the charging speeds seen on the Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy S25 Plus, and exceed the 25W seen in the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S24 FE. As we don't know the battery size of the phone, we can't state for certain how speedy a charge you'll get. However, when we tested the Galaxy S25 Ultra, with its 5,000 mAh battery, it managed to reach 71% battery after charging for 30 minutes with a 45W charger. As such, if this news is accurate, we'd imagine the S25 FE to charge impressively quickly too. Aside from the battery, we've heard a few rumors about the rest of the Galaxy S25 FE's hardware. For instance, we've seen reports that the phone will feature the same camera setup as the Galaxy S24 FE, meaning a 50MP main lens, supported by 12MP ultrawide and 8MP telephoto cameras. On the plus side, it appears that Samsung could update the selfie camera to 12MP, compared to the 10MP selfie camera on the current FE. We don't know much about the screen, but we'd expect the phone to at least have the same 6.7-inch display seen on the current S24 FE. There's also a lot of conflicting information when it comes to the chip coming with the phone. We've heard that Samsung could reuse the Exynos 2400e featured on the current phone. However, leaked benchmarks have shown the phone running the Exynos 2400, which would offer a marked performance increase, although it would still lag behind Samsung's other flagship devices and their Snapdragon 8 Elite silicon. Samsung released the Galaxy S24 FE in October last year. While we can't be certain Samsung will stick to the same date, it would seem fair to expect a Fall release date at least. OnePlus earbuds could soon make Spotify access seamless (APK teardown)

OnePlus makes some great earbuds, with recent options like the OnePlus Buds 4 slotting in nicely at $130 for a mid-range option that works out for most people. Earbuds from OnePlus are fairly feature-packed for their price, but the company could be looking to add another touch of convenience to them with the upcoming Spotify Tap feature. We found code related to the Spotify Tap feature within the HeyMelody app v115.8, which controls various settings on OPPO and OnePlus earbuds. It's unclear which OnePlus or OPPO earbuds will get this feature. The feature could roll out to existing products as long as they are compatible, but it wouldn't be too surprising to learn that it is compatible only with select upcoming hardware. PSA: The Galaxy Z Fold 7 won't work with an S Pen even if you buy one separately
The Galaxy Z Fold series has been compatible with Samsung's S Pen since the Z Fold 3, allowing users to draw on the Z Fold's larger internal display. It was also ideal for navigation, providing users with a more tablet-like experience with the added screen real estate. It may not be the most used feature of the Galaxy Z Fold phones, but for enthusiasts, it's a fantastic way to get their S Pen fix. Unfortunately, a price increase isn't the only surprise Samsung has for us with the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Samsung's newest book-style foldable will not support the S Pen. Samsung claims that the digitizer for S Pen compatibility requires an additional layer on the display, resulting in a thicker device. It's a disappointing turn of events, especially since Samsung has already limited the S Pen in the Galaxy S25 Ultra, removing Bluetooth functionality. I was shocked when Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold 7 would not be S Pen compatible. I didn't love it when the company made changes to the S Pen in the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but I accepted it, convinced that the Galaxy Z Fold series would be the last haven for enthusiasts. While plenty of people walk into their carrier stores and pick up Galaxy S25 Ultras, there aren't too many casuals plunking down $2,000 on a Galaxy Z Fold 7. It's disappointing that Samsung would remove S Pen compatibility, as it was a way for some people to justify the higher price of owning a Galaxy Z Fold, using the S Pen to draw sketches or mark up documents on the expansive internal display. If Samsung's most expensive (to date) device isn't immune to feature rollbacks, it's a disturbing sign. I know the company wanted to make the thinnest device possible, especially to compete with foldables from overseas, but I don't believe the two had to be mutually exclusive. I fear it's the beginning of the end for the S Pen. Samsung is sure to mention at every turn that user surveys reveal that not enough people use the feature to make it worthwhile. I disagree. Still, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 won't support an S Pen, and if a $2,000 smartphone can't keep its enthusiast features, which phone will?
