School teacher arrested for sexually assaulting three girl students near Krishnagiri

KRISHNAGIRI: A govt schoolteacher was arrested in Krishnagiri district on Wednesday night on charges of sexually assaulting three girl students.
The arrested teacher has been identified as V Balakrishnan, 50, of Krishnagiri town, who was working as an English teacher at a govt school in the district.
Educational department officials suspended him on Thursday in the wake of his arrest.
It was alleged that Balakrishnan had been sexually assaulting three girl students in the school for several weeks.
The students lodged a complaint against him with the district education department on Monday. As directed by district collector C Dinesh Kumar, officials from the district child protection unit and the education department visited the school on Wednesday and investigated. "During the investigation, it was confirmed that the information provided by the students was accurate," said an officer at the Krishnagiri all women police station.
The police booked Balakrishnan under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested him. He was remanded in judicial custody.

The accused is set to be presented before a court for further legal proceedings.

Coimbatore: A special court for trial of cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act on Friday sentenced a 32-year-old man to seven years of imprisonment for sexually harassing a seven-year-old girl in 2021. A court source identified the convict as M Rishwan, a resident of Al Ameen Colony near South Ukkadam. "The minor girl and her younger brother were playing at a shop owned by her father in the city. When their father went to a nearby shop to buy them chocolates, leaving the duo alone in the shop, Rishwan entered inside, grabbed the girl and sexually harassed her. Later, he ran away." When her father came to know about the incident, he lodged a complaint with the west all-woman police, who registered a case against Rishwan under the Pocso Act and IPC Section 506, and arrested him. He was subsequently remanded in judicial custody. Judge T Bagavathiammal convicted him in the case on Friday and awarded seven years of imprisonment to Rishwan. The court also imposed a fine of Rs7,000 on him.

NIA court declares Hizb chief Syed Salahuddin proclaimed offender under UAPA

An NIA court here on Friday declared Pakistan-based Hizbul Mujahideen chief Mohammad Yousuf Shah alias Syed Salahuddin a proclaimed offender under the UAP Act. Srinagar Police has appealed to the public for any information on the whereabouts of Salahuddin(HT/File) The special designated court under NIA Act, Srinagar, issued a proclamation requiring the appearance of Shah, a resident of Soibugh, Badgam, in connection with serious charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Ranbir Penal Code. According to court records, a challan was filed alleging that the accused has committed offences punishable under Sections 13 and 18 of the UA(P) Act and Section 505 of the RPC in Zakura police station. Despite a warrant being issued for his arrest, law enforcement authorities have reported that Salahuddin could not be found and is believed to have absconded or is deliberately concealing his whereabouts to evade arrest. In light of these circumstances, the court declared Salahuddin as absconding and issued a proclamation requiring his appearance before the court on or before August 30, to answer the charges framed against him. Failure to appear may lead to further legal action, including proceedings under Section 82/83 of the Code of Criminal Procedure pertaining to the attachment of property of an absconder. Srinagar Police has appealed to the public for any information on the whereabouts of Salahuddin and urged cooperation in the interest of justice and public safety.
