Latest Japan quake has ‘no causal connection' with manga prophecy: weather agency

Japan 's weather agency said an earthquake that rattled small islands in the nation's southwest on Saturday was in no way connected to a manga author's disaster prediction that went viral on social media.
'It is absolutely a coincidence. There is no causal connection,' Ayataka Ebita of the Japan Meteorological Agency told a press conference.
Earlier in the day, a temblor with a preliminary magnitude of 5.4 struck off the Tokara island chain, the latest in a series of seismic events in the area.
Speculation has spread that Japan will be hit by a major disaster in July – specifically on Saturday – based on a prediction made in The Future I Saw, a manga written by Japanese artist Ryo Tatsuki.

Tatsuki gained a profile after her prediction of a 'major calamity' in March 2011 coincided with a catastrophic quake-tsunami that struck Japan's northeast and led to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident.

The Hong Kong Observatory will cancel a No 1 tropical cyclone warning on Sunday afternoon as Typhoon Danas moves away from the city, with the forecaster also warning residents to be wary of the extreme heat. 'In the past few hours, Danas accelerated northeastwards, moving away from Hong Kong gradually. The Observatory will cancel all tropical cyclone warning signals at 2.20pm' it said. Danas, which means 'to experience' or 'to feel' in Tagalog, was estimated to be about 460km east of Hong Kong at around 1pm, the forecaster said. It is expected to move northeast at about 10km/h in the direction of the western coast of Taiwan in the vicinity of the Taiwan Strait. The forecaster also issued a very hot weather warning at 10.45am, as temperatures across the city reached 34 degrees Celsius or above by noon.

Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan disliked this Hong Kong film director, but how good was he?

Lo Wei was one of Hong Kong's most renowned directors in the late 1960s and early 1970s, but disparagement from Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan tarnished his reputation. Advertisement Below, film historian Frank Djeng discusses how it could be time for Lo's voluminous body of work to be re-evaluated. Do you think Lo's work has been overlooked? Yes, I think it's time to reassess his accomplishments. He was one of Shaw Brothers' most prominent directors between 1964 and 1970, directing close to 20 films there. His The Golden Buddha (1966), which is a really fun James Bond-style film, was the first Shaw movie to take HK$1 million, and Lo was the first to be called a 'million-dollar director'.
