Netflix's Best New Show Lands Another 100% Rotten Tomatoes Score
DAN DA DAN If you're looking for great Netflix shows to watch and don't mind expanding your horizons a bit, there's a new show in Netflix's top 10 list that's going to be worth checking out. It's racked up a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score for two seasons in a row, and it has 90%+ audience scores to boot. That show is the anime DAN DA DAN, or Dandadan, however you want to format it. The manga series was released in 2021 and is still running. This Netflix anime adaptation premiered in 2024, and now season 2 has arrived in 2025 here. Both have perfect critic scores, making it tied as one of the highest scored animes on the entire service. And as I said, audiences do not disagree. Here's a synopsis of the series: The show is classified as a 'Shōnen anime,' a popular story structure in the genre, and generally has been thought to target young men in the market. But there are plenty of fans of DAN DA DAN of all stripes. DAN DA DAN The original season of DAN DA DAN was successful on Netflix, where it was the most-watched anime series on the service from July to December in 2024, racking up 19.6 million views. That led to a season 2 and that's currently #5 on the service. That's even in the US, and Netflix has boasted that many, many viewers are now dipping into anime in the region. DAN DA DAN being #5 more than two full weeks after launch is a significant achievement. So, do these numbers mean a season 3 is coming? Well, even before this, that was already happening. There's no release date yet, but it's confirmed that yes, a season 3 has been greenlit and will arrive some time either in 2026 or 2027, depending on the production schedule of the studio. It should cover the 'Space Globalists' arc of the manga, and there is plenty of source material to continue to adapt from here. Netflix has found a whole lot of success with anime and other animated productions, and continues to invest heavily in the genre either through licensing or its own original projects. Demon Slayer achieves 220 million copies sold globally, dominates manga sales
TOKYO, July 18 — Popular Japanese manga Demon Slayer has sold over 200 million copies across all 23 volumes worldwide, a feat achieved by only a handful of titles under its wing, Kyodo News Agency reported, citing local media reports. According to the statement released by the publisher, Shueisha Inc, it said that the number of copies in global circulation of the hit series by Koyoharu Gotoge has hit 220 million, including digital editions. The series, which was serialised in the Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020, tells the story of Tanjiro Kamado, an adolescent boy who battles human-eating demons while searching for a cure for his sister, who has turned into a demon. An animated film based on the same series was released in 2020, became the first movie in Japan to top 40 billion yen (RM1.14 billion) in box-office revenue. The latest animated film Demon Slayer—Kimetsu No Yaiba—The Movie: Infinity Castle will open in cinemas across Japan today. 'Demon Slayer' manga series global circulation tops 200 million copies
More than 200 million copies of the popular Japanese manga series "Kimetsu no Yaiba," or "Demon Slayer" have been published worldwide. Publisher Shueisha said on Thursday that the number of copies of the 23-volume series in global circulation has reached 220 million, including digital editions. Created by Gotouge Koyoharu, the story was serialized from 2016 to 2020. It is set in Japan in the early 1900s, and features a boy who fights demons which killed his family members. He goes on a journey in search of a cure for his sister, who has transformed into a demon. An animated film based on the series was released in 2020 and earned 40 billion yen, or about 270 million dollars, in box-office revenue. That made it the highest grossing film in Japan. Among other popular manga series, "One Piece" has more than 510 million copies in circulation worldwide, followed by "Case Closed," also known as "Detective Conan," with over 270 million. "Dragon Ball" has more than 260 million copies. Those three series have more than 40 volumes each, while "Demon Slayer" has topped 200 million copies in circulation with just 23 volumes.

‘Dan Da Dan' Season 1 Blu-Ray Review: Joyous Irreverent Madness
The hectic fever dream of the anime adaptation of Dan Da Dan is anime at its unhinged best. The premise of the manga and subsequently this anime version has a schoolgirl, Momo Ayase, challenge the nerdy Ken Takekura, not that one, but I'll get to that later, that there are no such things as UFOs and aliens. Ken slaps back that there's nothing true about ghosts or the supernatural, which Momo, due to her fortune-telling grandma, firmly believes in. The added twist is that neither party, despite believing the opposite of the other, has actually had any firsthand experience with what they claim to believe in. As a result, Ken goes to a famous haunted tunnel at night, and Momo goes to a building that supposedly has lots of alien abductions. Naturally, while bickering on the phone with each other, both encounter not only ghosts that curse people but also aliens trying to rebuild their race by abducting Earth women. This is where Dan Da Dan does not care about offending anyone, as its approach to these matters is entirely irreverent and very funny. Also, the fact that Ken gets cursed by a crazy old ghost actually helps Momo in her alien abduction predicament, with Momo's newfound spiritual abilities helping to curb Ken's curse. 'Dan Da Dan' is a fun and really quite crazy anime. Which brings me onto the whole dynamic between these two. At the start of the first episode, Momo gets dumped and complains that men aren't manly enough. She also has a soft spot for the actor Ken Takekura, and feels that he is her ideal man. So this whole almost symbiotic relationship between the two is made all the more hilarious when the nerdy kid also has the same name as her heartthrob actor. The result of the latter is that she ends up calling him 'Okarun' because he's a nerdy otaku and doesn't really want to admit that he may be her ideal partner. The icing on the cake for all of this is that Science Saru has really delivered in terms of the animation. I still have a great deal of affection for the studio after Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken, but the action sequences in Dan Da Dan are something else entirely. So, having the first season come to Blu-ray is definitely welcome. Not least because the visuals are delivered in a thoroughly pristine way, but the audio hits hard too. You also get some nice extras on the disc, from interviews and the like. The Collector's Edition also comes with a nice 32-page booklet, some art cards, and a sticker. It also all comes in a solid box with nice artwork. Overall, Dan Da Dan is a fun send-up of UFO and supernatural pop-culture, and also cements that with likeable leads. Some of it is pretty racy in places, but it never feels gratuitous, just very silly. In any case, Science Saru has done a great job here, and this Blu-ray set is certainly a tribute to that.
