2027 four-star RB and Penn State commit Kemon Spell shuts down recruitment
Class of 2027 four-star running back and Penn State commit Kemon Spell is shutting his recruitment down. He believes PSU is the best program for his future and he will not be considering any other schools moving forward.

Spell, out McKeesport Area High School, is a top-75 prospect nationally, checking in at No. 74 in the Rivals250. He also ranks as the No. 1 recruit in the state of Pennsylvania and the No. 5 running back in the 2027 cycle.
While back in Happy Valley for a visit with Penn State on Saturday, Spell sat down with head coach James Franklin, offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki, running backs coach Stan Drayton, assistant running backs coach Charles Walker and other Penn State staff members. Following those conversations, Spell came to the conclusion that he is locked in with the Nittany Lions.
"My talk with Coach Franklin was awesome," Spell told Rivals.com. "He sat down with me and my parents and talked about the love he has for me and my family, and how I will be treated just like his (own) kids."
Perhaps the biggest threat to the Nittany Lions in Spell's recruitment was Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish recently offered Spell on "Pot of Gold Day" on March 17, but his relationship with recently-hired Notre Dame associate head coach/running backs coach Ja'Juan Seider made that pursuit something to keep an eye on.

Seider was the assistant head coach/co-offensive coordinator/running backs coach for the Nittany Lions when Spell committed to Penn State back in August of 2024. Spell shares a special bond with Seider.
However, Spell remains committed to Penn State and plans to keep that pledge all the way until it is time for the 2027 prospect to sign with the school.
In addition to his strong connection with Franklin, one big reason why he is deciding to shut down his recruitment this early in the process is because of his growing relationship with Drayton.
"Me and Coach Drayton's relationship has gotten stronger and stronger the more we talk, the more we go over things," Spell said. "I saw something special in (Coach Drayton) in my eyes. I want him coaching me."

Spell's tight bond with Walker is also a big reason why Spell is eager to become a Nittany Lion in the near future.
"Coach Charles Walker, I love him," Spell said. "He shows so much affection toward me and my family. This is really the best group (of coaches) in the country."
During the visit, Spell spent quality time with many of the coaches and was reminded why he chose the Nittany Lions in the first place — Penn State is home to him.
"On my visit today, (I felt like) it is something like home," Spell explained. "That's where I'm meant to be and where I was born to play. The coaches, they all love me. I got to sit down and have a few conversations with the offensive coordinator (Andy Kotelnicki). I love his energy, and he loves me and wants to get to know me more."

Spell is not the only Penn State running back commit to announce on Saturday that he is shutting his recruitment down. Class of 2026 four-star running back Messiah Mickens also announced that he is locked in with the Nittany Lions and is no longer entertaining other programs.
On a big Saturday for the Nittany Lions, Penn State also landed a commitment from in-state, four-star linebacker and Rivals250 prospect Khalil Taylor.
PSU now has three total commits in the 2027 class with Spell, Taylor and four-star offensive tackle Layton von Brandt.

A few Notre Dame women's basketball notes on Jayda Porter and Giovanna Burress
While Notre Dame's women's basketball might be going through a transitional season even with FIBA Gold medalist Hanna Hidalgo leading the charge, there is still plenty of draw to South Bend with recruits. The Irish are off to a great start in the 2026 class, and while they just have one commitment, it's a significant one. Georgia small forward Bella Ragone decided to commit to Notre Dame at the end of May, as she's the No. 23 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Niele Ivey is looking to add another top prospect to join Ragone in power forward Jayda Porter. The 6-foot, 3-inch Missouri native is just behind her in the rankings, as the No. 31 overall player in the cycle and this weekend decided to schedule her official visit to South Bend for Sep. 13th. Porter also announced visits to Oklahoma, Nebraska and Wisconsin. She's the brother of NBA player Michael Porter Jr., and daughter to Michael Sr. who is currently the head coach at Missouri. Looking further ahead, the Irish extended an offer to 2028 New Jersey guard Giovanna Burress on Saturday. The sister of wide receiver Elijah and daughter of Plaxico, could eventually join her brother on campus as Notre Dame has offered extremely early. Giovanna is looking like a national prospect, so this could be the start of a long relationship. While the Irish are early, they are not the only big schools to offer as Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan State and others have already done so. It very much looks like Ivey is taking a page out of Marcus Freeman's recruiting playbook, offering players that have elite athletic lineages. Hopefully this strategy works as well for the women's basketball team as it has for the football team. Chiefs scouting report: Notre Dame Fighting Irish G Charles Jagusah
Play of the Day No. 153: Zane Durant gets the unblocked TFL, but watch the violence right guard Charles Jagusah inflicts on Jaylen Reed (Notre Dame vs. Penn State, 2024). #POTD The Kansas City Chiefs found a temporary solution to replace left guard Joe Thuney when they decided to kick former second round pick Kingsley Suamataia inside. Suamataia's physical tools and upside give him immense potential, but the Chiefs might be forced to revisit the position in the 2026 NFL draft if things go poorly this year. The 2026 NFL draft features a deep pool of college offensive tackles who project as guards at the professional level. Notre Dame Fighting Irish redshirt sophomore Charles Jagusah falls into that category. Jagusah spent some time at left tackle in 2024, but his best long-term fit is at guard. Jagusah suffered a fractured left humerus in a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) accident in July, which might impact his availability early in the season. However, Notre Dame faces a favorable schedule after clearing early hurdles against Miami and Texas A&M, meaning Jagusah should see action in the College Football Playoff for the second consecutive year. Jagusah is an imposing 6'7", 333 lb. lineman and displays surprisingly light footwork that expands his range in pass protection and helps him easily move and adjust trajectory in space. He's an elite athlete with insane burst and top speed for a player his size. Ordinarily, Jagusah's height would prevent him from playing guard, but he's very flexible and maintains a low pad level while on the interior. Jagusah sets a wide base and drops his hips to anchor against bull rushers. He fits his hands into the defender's pads and drives upward, forcing the pass rusher to lose the leverage battle. Jagusah freely bends through his hips and core, allowing him to contort his upper body to absorb the initial contact before sinking down in his anchor. Jagusah must focus on developing his hand usage. He played left tackle against Ohio State in the College Football Playoff and suffered significant losses against savvy veterans Jack Sawyer and J.T. Tuimoloau because of poor strike timing and hand placement. Jagusah's explosiveness and movement skills shine in the run game. His frame needs to become denser to generate more displacement at the point of attack. Jagusah's height causes him to overextend in the run game, but more experience should help limit this issue. Jagusah could return to school in 2026 since he's only a redshirt sophomore. If he declares, he projects as a top 64 selection with first round upside.
